A-703 Ban on Lead ammunition.

If you read this is is really more than state land. think of any waterway or land that has run off foe NY City water supply. They do't say drinking water supply.  Hudson River all the way up, Erie Canal and Mohawk River to about Rome area and everything that runs into them.

This would ban lead ammo on tons of private land where any little trickle of a stream runs into anything that eventually flows into the NYC water supply.  That would include virtually ALL of the Catskill Mountain region.  This could be considered the epitome of government over reach.

Last year my land, which has a stream on it that runs to the Delaware and into NYC watershed lakes, had exactly 1 round of ammo fired on it.  I don't think that is a threat to anything animal or human.

It doesn't say anything about target practice on the land though.  Guess I'll just have to shoot it all off, since it's gonna be worthless for hunting anymore.

I think is is further reaching than that. I don't read it as "Drinking" water supply. Could the law be interpreted to mean all water supply to NYC?  Recreational water? Hudson River?

if you couple this with NY SAFE Act banning online ammo sales available ammo to use will get stupid expensive or be in short supply.  it's worse because this isn't banning the sale. it's banning the use.

FWIW this isn't the first time this has been knocked about in NYC DEP circles about watershed lands.

When they started opening them up to recreational use years ago this topic was discussed.

 

For those from out of the area....

NY City Department of Environmental Conservation is its own enforcement agency and NY City owns thousands and thousands of acres surrounding their extensive reservoir system and in the water sheds surrounding them in I think 8 counties. It used to be all off limits except for fishing but they have opened up many specific parcels and areas to hunting/hiking/rail trail as they keep on buying up acreage that deem protecting the resource of fresh water.

They pretty much get their way when it comes to rules of discharges of water flow and anything to do with watershed land use.

I agree , but currently there are a few online  ammo sellers that ship to NY.

I use Buds , and I buy a minimum of 500 rounds per caliber .
