New to Me Northwind Longbow

A new to me Northwind Archery (Gerry Fiegl, Amherst, NY) Reverse Handle Longbow I picked up. Mint condition - not a scratch on her,

Bamboo Limbs with Horn Tip Overlay and Cocobolo Handle. 54#@28

I think my son has a Northwind long bow as well as a couple of Black Widow bows . He makes his own arrows .

Hi, Fasteddie... yeah traditional archery is an addiction! Here are the arrows I made for 2012. They are Lodgepole Pine shafts, the crown is dyed using RIT Dye and de-natured Alcohol (the crown is actually darker than the picture - camera flash), hand chopped full length feathers. I keep my designs simple because "Picasso" I'm not.

Steve, nice bow. I have no clue where to start, but I have this idea that longbow is archery in it's truest form. Like it's relaxing as fly fishing is with a split bamboo rod.

Nice looking bow. Gerry is a good friend of mine. I worked for him in 1982 and 1983! Heck of a bow maker and person. Enjoy the new bow.

Northwind is a pretty bow.. they always look odd to me with the reverse handle.. looks like they are strung backwords

... do they feel much different to shoot?.. I've never tried one.

Yeah.. I get that a lot!!! "Stop stringin' your bow backwards!". LOL! Truth is I find it the most comfortable and forgiving design. The reverse handle fits in the folcrum of the hand like no other handle does. Provides for an incredibly smooth and quiet release. And makes for a very versatile hunting bow.

My son makes his own "footed" shafts with some exotic wood on each end . He sometimes puts a piece of deer antler in the self nock . Matt has a feather cutter , spline tester , etc .. I will post some pics when I get to my other computer .

I agree with the work of art statement, those arrows add to the satisfaction of shooting and hunting on a personal level in my opinion.

From what I understand , the footed part makes the shaft stronger .

Footed Shafts usually refer to the front business end of the arrow, Footing provides more durability, but also provides greater FOC percentage, which attributes to better accuracy and penetration.
