Some do, some definitely don't and stay put. Hunters likely walk by as many deer that stay put vs bust.

I make sure to stop a lot. I've had lots of deer jump up close to me after I do that. I think when you're moving they know where you are and where you're headed. Stop and they get nervous and bolt

Couldn't agree more on that. I learned that early on as a kid at threat of violence, lol. This guy Vic was one of my uncle's friends who pushed and drove with us when I was young and mostly a pusher.

We were walking out along a narrow brushlot after a drive and walking side by side. As we were halfway back to the truck a nice 8 was bedded ten yards in and we both saw it at the same time. Before I could stop to shoulder he told me if I stopped he'd wrap his SKS around my skull - keep in mind we were talking 30 feet from that deer and he stayed put. We walked another 10 yards and Vic swung shot that buck in its bed and it never moved. Every time I have one deer jump when I stop and it gets away I think to myself I'm thankful Vic wasn't there with me.

Two years ago I shot a deer in muzzle I thought was a doe but it was a shed buck. Walked over to deer and had to reload to finish it.

Realized it had just lost it's horns and where I was I should've seen it walk in. So started tracking in snow to see where it came from and if sheds there. Found it had a fresh bed in the snow in some thick stuff 40 yards away.  As I stood there a HUGE buck jumps up and starts running.  It was bedded 40 yards from there as well and it sat tight even after two gunshots and me walking around.  One of the biggest I've ever seen and couldn't get a bead on him for a shot. He sat right there tight as can be thru all that.  I think we have no idea how many we walk by and never see.

Excellent post , guess it couldn’t hurt to be a little more aggressive when other more conservative tactics aren’t working , right !!

I think I’ve learned more in this one thread than all others I’ve ever read on here !! Wow! So he didn’t break stride and shot it so that it wouldn’t bolt?

Lol that's great! The guys that I started out deer hunting with used to bang lots and pans and bark like dogs etc and we rarely got deer moving

Now I know why you get anxiety so bad about making noise in the woods ,it gives you flashbacks!
