NYRturkeycall
Hi all. From Suffolk and new to turkey hunting; use my stoeger for deer way up north but want a new challenge-I plan on starting in spring '21. Wondering how good places in putnam are? Specifically wonder lake state park? Any tips/advise is appreciated ahead of time.
NYRturkeycall
And btw I'm not looking to steal anyone's spot or bring anybody up with me in a pack. Just any advice would be helpful because it's really not convenient for me to drive two plus hours away from family for weekends at a time just to scout. G-Man
Dont over call, patience and scouting. Pattern your gun and if you can get a good turkey choke tube, you may need a sight put on gun if pattern is very tight for close shots.. 1

Gobbler Chaser
I'm a lifetime deer hunter but discovered Turkey hunting about 15yrs ago. It's awesome and rivals deer hunting in my book. You'll be flooded with advice here. Learn from your mistakes and enjoy
Pygmy
Welcome to the forum and to the brotherhood of turkey hunters.... I can't help you with any areas down your way, since I live and hunt in SW ( Steuben County) nestled along the PA border...
NYRturkeycall
1 hour ago, blackbeltbill said: I usually use my Box around mid- morning so, I can reach Far off Toms and possibly get one to respond. Give that a shot when all is quiet around 9.30am or so. Great! Thanks to all for the words/advice. Really looking forward to turkey hunting... Will be night and day from deer. There is fall hunting down here on Long island but from what I hear it's few and far between and these turkeys don't respond to a damn thing. Looking forward to the spring season.
