Lomax
Just read about the extended season in Tompkins County did not know about this have to check it out. I have clients in the Ithaca area and deer are like Rats down there everywhere perhaps it’s time to venture down to Tompkins county Deer season is extended downstate and in Tompkins County Over-abundance of deer in those areas ALBANY -- While deer hunting seasons have ended in New York’s northern zone and ending in most of the southern zone, it has been extended in parts of Tompkins County and in all of Westchester and Suffolk counties due to an over-abundance of the animals in those areas. Deer hunting continues with archery equipment in Westchester County through Dec. 31. And from Jan. 9 to Jan. 31, there will be an antlerless deer season in the Deer Management Focus Area in central Tompkins County. Hunters wanting to go there need to register and download a permit, carcass tags, and a hunting activity log from the DMFA webpage. Registered hunters may take up to two antlerless deer per day in the DMFA. In Suffolk County, the regular bowhunting deer season runs through Jan. 31, and a special late firearms season runs from Jan. 3 through 31. Town permits are required in the towns of Southampton, Islip, and Smithtown. For DEC-managed lands, hunters not holding drawing numbers or who missed the reservation sign-up period can claim reservations for any unfilled hunting spots between 10 AM and 2 PM, Dec. 19 - 24, 26 - 31, and between 10 AM and 2 PM on Jan. 4 - 31. Reservations must be made in person. For more information on reservation procedures and to see which DEC-managed lands are available for firearms deer hunting, visit the DEC website at dec.gov/outdoor.
