phade
FIL was sold on using my Wolf this past season. He's going to get one during our trip to Cabela's/Harrisburg. He asked me to research some viable options. He liked the Wolf, but it's the only one he's ever shot....so he is open to other brand/models. He will not spend enough $ to go T/C or high end models (Vortek UL/Accura v2, etc.). So...we're looking at mid-range setups. My short list is pretty short...so far: CVA Wolf Traditions Canyon (new but similar to Wolf in purpose/design) CVA Optima (Some models on clearance at Cabelas). Anything else to keep an eye out for? I think I can safely chuck the Impact from the list because it is not a quick pull breech plug design...I think he'd prefer that.
sbuff
Your making a mistake if you chuck the impact. It only takes a second to get the breech plug out. The other choices are good too.If your looking at the Optima might want to get a Omega.

88GW
I purchased the TC Impact and the breech is not tooless. I have read great reviews on the Impact and know people who love their Wolfs and Optimas as well. I like the fact the TC is US made and am willing to take the wrench with me in a bag, it is only three turns and the breech plug is out. I wish I could give you a review of the performance of the Impact at the range but I guess you will have to wait.
sbuff
Correct the Impact does need a wrench / socket to remove the breach plug. I would just consider it if I was thinking price wise of the Wolf. I would shoulder the guns too and not only get one that fits your budget but feels good to you.I have heard nothing but good about the Impact and Wolf. AS I have stated before I am not a CVA fan but that doesn't meen they are not good shooters. Plenty of people have them and have the targets to back it up. He might want to check the used market too, gun broken has plenty of nice stuff listed all the time, as does gunsamerica. sg0331
My first ML was a Traditions Pursuit; I had a Nikon Prostaff BDC mounted and that was dead-on out to 135yds (confirmed). With T/C 250 gr. Shock-waves and 100 gr. White Hots. At times I wish I had kept it. I think you could get the set up for $300 - $400. i am starting from scratch with Vortek Ultra-light,
88GW
If you are still not considering the TC Impact, I can now tell you it is a tack driver!!!!!!!! 3 shot groups at 100yds and they are all touching. It was my first time out with it and first time shooting a ML so I am pretty impressed. I was shooting 3-50 grain Pyrodex pellets, 260 grain Harvester Scorpion Gold PT's, with black Harvester sabots. Seems to be a pretty good combo. With all the crap you need to take out with you to the range or field to shoot theses things the added breech plug wrench was no big deal to me. I would think the toolless design after a few shots may be tough to remove with your fingers as I noticed even with the wrench it was tough to get breech plug out after a few shots even after placing grease on breech plug threads. Not sure if its an expansion issue after it gets heated up or crud built up or just par for the course with ML's.
