Double Beard -Tagged out 2012

I got into the woods this morning at 4:50 AM and heard gobbling start at 5:05 AM. By 6:45 AM I had heard 3 different birds gobble at least 200 times. All they would do was answer me and not come any closer. I was good and frustrated but decided to give one more series of clucks and yelps before moving my position. I let out a yelp and had a gobble nearly on top of me. I slowly turned my head and saw two birds, one in full strut, not 25 yards in the field behind me. They had snuck in behind me without making a noise. Once the strutting tom turned, I swung around. The other bird was a jake. He wasn't too keen on my movement and started fast stepping away. The tom came out of strut and I shot before he ran to the next county.

When I shot, all I knew was the bird wasn't a jake. I had no clue what I had shot. I checked for his beard and found he had two of them growing a little less than an inch apart. The longer beard is just over 10" and the shorter one is 6." His spurs were disapointing at just under 3/4." He weighed 23 pounds. Overall this was my most unique bird to date. I'm tagged out for 2012.

Nice bird - both beards look thick which is unusual - most have the multi beard birds have 1 nice one and their others are usually thin. Congrats - my favorite is long spurs, then multiple beards and then the long beard. That is a great trophy.

Thanks everyone. I considered a mount but when I saw the "white" bird post I decided that will be my goal for a mount. I'm not all that into turkey mounts anyway so it will take an exceptionally unique bird for me to get it mounted.

Kurt, let me know when you are up here next year and we'll hook up. I wish I knew you were in town, I had a pile of birds scouted this year and no one to hunt with.
