  2. Dave I hunt 8h as well, and I have been stopped at least 5 times by the dec in years past . I saw them drive past 2x's this year. We worked with them when we had a poacher problem as well, I now have his card in my wallet and cell # in mine.

  3. Asthetics are important to some people. Some people like nice vehicles. As per MOI, I'm not much interested in cars as long as they get me where I want to go. I DO like attractive, quality firearms...Life is too short to hunt with an ugly gun. Many people however, could care less about what thier firearm looks like, as long as it gets the job done. Nothing wrong with that. Different strokes for different folks.

  5. Absolutely,100%, wouldn't change a thing, what we have is perfect! From spikers to slammers we have it all in my area and to tell you the truth, I just love the variety! When the big fish aren't biting, I've got plenty of action with the little ones to pull through the slow times... and bye golly sometimes one of them is a keeper for the day depending on my mindset. Last year was a 3 1/2 yo 11pt, and this year a 1 1/2yo spiker. I just never know what's gonna trip my trigger any given day.. and frankly, I could care less who doesn't like the choices I make for my reasons.

  6. See now this post just makes me sad for this guy and guys like him. It's true that these issues are looked at by many as a head gear issue many times and i guess i do it myself. But how can you not. My gosh, this guy is dreaming about what a button or spike would have been like if it had lived one more year and that, for him, would be a dandy.. I just can't imagine what that must be like. What exactly are those poachers poaching? That local legandary 6 pointer.

  7. So far the only two guys that think things are fine are two guys and myself. Doc, Culver and myself all coincidently hunt primarily 8h. What are the chances? Things are good here but the state is aweful big and just seems that the status quo is hurting alot of areas. Doewhacker has a concept that on the surface seem to make some sence with the buck lottery. Alot of states out west seem to make that system work so i'll have to give that some thought. Boy i hate to give him credit but i guess even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.. LOL

  8. This thread is a perfect example of why hunters have the problems we do. A 16 yr. old kid holding out on his first buck? He's already stated that the buck is his target. That statement right there should have halted any input to let it walk. At 16, the goal should be bloodshed within legal limits. You are honing your skills on the process of hunting, shooting, and the whole act. It's the "practice makes perfect" situation. Once you get comfortable with it, then the next stage begins. OP - is the area large tract woods? flat? hilly? ag land? This type of info can help figure out potential patterns and sets. I think he's a fine trophy for you.

  9. Ask for advice and you get QDM stuffed down your throat! Damn nice deer, and if you want him than harvest him! It’s your legal right as a NYS licensed sportsman! I’m north of you in 7J and the deer are JUST starting to chase heavily! There were deer running ramped throughout a corn field yesterday. Once they start chasing bucks get “preoccupied” and make mistakes. During this time try to get into your stand every chance you get. If you have the opportunity, set up a second or third stand so that you have options for different conditions and wind directions. This will also allow you to mix it up and throw the deer off. Good luck!
