There is nothing wrong with contributing to your community and the schools in the community... there is however something wrong with just property owners contributing to the community... and there is something wrong with someone else deciding how my money is spent without consulting me.. I have a problem with paying anyone a salary, benefits, and retirement that I will never recieve myself in the private sector... if our money is going to be used to run the community we should have the say about how it is spent.. not the teachers union or union backed politicians. That does not seem unreasonable to me... and if I am not going to have a say and teachers are going to get all those things that I (the person that pays their way) does not get... then at least turn out students that can read and write... and stop whining about how bad you have it and how tough your part -time job is... I like to at least get a kiss when I'm being screwed.1 point

I don't have a lot of bad things to say about teachers. Frankly, you couldn't pay me enough to spend all those hours with those little monsters ..... lol. But I will say that compared to the days when I was in school there certainly has become a glut of administrative personel. It also seems that there is an abundance in teacher headcount compared to what it took to educate us even though the number of students have not risen significantly. I will also say that the results really are not all that impressive. having attended the same school district that I am now a taxpayer in, and having put two children through that same school, and having watched two grandchildren attending the same school as well as countless other children and aquaintances, gives me a unique perspective on how the growth of teachers and administrators and facilities has far outpaced the miniscule population growth in that school over the years. Every year the inflation adjusted costs go up, and every year the quality of student education erodes. Something is very, very wrong in our educational institutions1 point

Geno, I hear you and feel the same way. I am retired in Nassau County and pay school taxes and have no children in the school system. But also have a house up state which I have to also pay school taxes. I don't think we should be required to pay school taxes twice. I remember you recently bought land up state soon you will be in the same boat.1 point

I've stayed out of this for a while! Settle down folks you cannot change anyone's mind if it's already made up! Let the use the Ferber method! ... Ferber method is to solve infant whining problems. It involves training whiners to self -soothe by allowing the whiner to complain for a predetermined amount of time before receiving external comfort.. ( changed some wording for my purposes. However, the meaning of the method is the same). Using the Beatles words "let it be."1 point

You posts are more bluster than bite. Total nonsense and a waste of the members time even reading your posts. Like all your comments they take some liberal path, which you always do. Just to go against the flow and then show how misinformed you really are which I always expect of you. You never dissapoint.!!!!!!! No matter what the topic.1 point

Its just depends on the turkey. I had some come running into decoys. Other times they wanted nothing to do with them. I don't use a decoy too much now days. Going out the night before and roasting the birds, then sneaking in before light between the gobbler and the hen is the best option.1 point

The first question is whats your budget. ARs can get pricey real quick. Second question is what type do you want. Are you going to use it for competition style shooting, varmint hunting, long range shooting, home defense, or do you want something for big game hunting? Stag is nice, so is Rock River Arms, DPMS, and Bushmaster. DPMS is hard to beat for their prices, and fit and finish are top notch. You could also buy a bare lower and start building your own with the exact options you want, which can work out to be alot less expensive if you shop around for the parts. There are lots of dedicated AR forums out there to help you along with a build, so dont be intimidated by it. Figure out what you want and budget first, then look at brands, etc. One thing, i would stay away from the ARs that you see at the big box stores for 500 or 600 bucks, they are extremely basic with no followers, dust shields, etc. There are always some great deals on used ones out there, in fact i think theres a guy with a Stag model 1 for sale over at nyfirearms.com right now.1 point

you see the biggest part of this problem is the tax payer really isnt part of the negotiations, the taxpayer has no real voice, no representation. teachers salaries and pensions are promised by the politicians to the unions who get them elected, especially in NY. the promises of life long health care and pensions were made by crooks who just wanted to get elected with no idea what was going to happen 30 years down the road, and these crooks really didnt care what was going to happen 30 years down the road. you see the whole thing was a bad deal and Joe taxpayer has been asked to pay to uphold the bad deal for a long time now. too long as far as i'm concerend..1 point

Spoken like a true teacher..lol... yes it was an upstate public school... one that I attended and one that I currently pay taxes for... sorry that your reality isn't my reality.. my argument is purely based on numbers provided by the school and verified by myself... along with my personal experience having gone to the school 35 years ago... I can't speak to learning disabilities... we didn't have the ones that are common today back in the 70's.. you know?.. laziness, dontfeellikelearninghowtoreadosis, yourworkingmetoohardolepsy, of course the grandaddy of them all ADHD... but I think that's because our parents had the stopwhininganddowhatyouaretold vaccine...lol1 point
