  1. I have had my son in training (he is 13 now) for a few yrs. now.................yes, he still has all his fingers. LOL I was taught by doing, how to gut, skin, quarter, debone, process and wrap by my uncles. I have since become very proficient at it, I have honed my technique and methods, updated equipment(elec. grinders, vacuum sealer, etc) beats the ole butcher paper and wrapping. I have a half doz. eye hooks in the beam in the garage, block and tackles, a folding cutting table, meat tubs and a spare refrig. just to store meat in to chill/age it in the warmer early season (bow/mzldr). If you learn the ins and outs of it and put together the proper equipment over time, it is well worth every penny spent...........................I have about the cost of having 4 deer processed involved in my set up, spread over 30 yrs. (not a bad pay off) Bottome line..................I know what I got for deer meat. FDXX75
  2. FH48, My 13 yr. old son is shooting a Matthews Mission, @40 lbs; arrow length is 26.5" nock to tip; Beaman carbon arrows; 2" Blazer vans..............................the optimum tip weight for that combo was 75gr. IMO, 100gr. may make the arrows nose heavy and effect the flight and POI from a bow shot that low of a draw weight. Secondly, I agree with the cut on contact bh for someone shooting that low of a draw weight also. FDXX75
  3. String life depends great on a number of things......................use, care and storage. If I was going on a payed/guided OR even unpaid/unguided hunt out West (that far from home) and my string was more than 1 1/2 yrs old. You can bet it would have a new string on it. Prior to the trip and had been shot to make sure POI was on. Strings stretch as well and can effect the performance of the bow, even slightly. Do I replace my string every yr. NO, I usually trade off or buy a new bow before I wear out a string................................... FDXX75
  4. Personally, I would waste good hard earned money on a Rossi firearm.........................................buy a slingshot first. FDXX75
  5. Either the a loin or the one of the steak sections from a hindquarter would be your best bet. Cut no more than 3/8" thick and pounded flat. The key is to not over cook the venison, she will have more red blood/juice from the venison than the veal it breading it. I make a similar dish with venison and breaded chicken cutlets, I sear the venison cutlets in a cast iron skillet in hot olive oil quickly (say 1 min. per side) just enough to seal in the juices, I bread the chicken and cook in a butter/oil/garlic mix in the same skillet. Then in a 9x13 baking dish, I start by layering the chicken and venison in alternating layers with a small amount of spagetti sauce between each layer(just enough to cover that layer) when all layers (@4) are done, I top the entire dish with sauce and either shredded or slice mozzarella cheese, bake the dish for 45-60 mins at 350* Or Make individual layered serving dishes (such as small casserole bowls) and bake @ 45 mins at 350* Serve with angle hair pasta and garlic bread................................. 6. I had the same thoughts, but I heard more excuses and mostly all having to do with being lazy and not wanting to take the time to put together a list, too much work to mail the stuff.................blah blah blah. This is really great. FDXX75
  7. In 32 yrs of hunting, I have never taken a deer to a processor..........................................I want to know exactly where my meat has been and that it is all there and MINE!!!!! I have it down to 5 1/2 - 6 hrs total start to finish, (skinning, quartering, debone, trim & vacuum seal) per deer doing it by myself, quicker if I have help. FDXX75
  8. I will get my updated list together tomorrow and post on the new thread. All I can say is WOW, to the response and how quickly this went together. I have literally tried to get this started on at least two other sites with no interest or nothing but negative feedback. This is great. FDXX75

  12. I am using the NAP Quiktune 360, has an adj. nylon arrow guide pad on the bottom and the two brushes located at 10 & 2 o'clock positions. Why??? Far less contact with the arrow shaft and zero interferrence with the fletches. Here is the link to the rest I currently use: http://www.newarchery.com/products/2-22/arrow-rests/quiktune-360-capture-rest.html FDXX75
  13. I like the concept of the show and the folks that think up the challenges, hats off to them. I don't watch it because of all the "Little Sally" drama that goes along with it.....................................give me a break. I have been using the open top, brush rest for two seasons now............................I love it. Way better than my old Whisker Bisquit ever thought of being. FDXX75

  18. Fasteddie, The .308 would be one of those that would call into the "perfect" example.................being as the bullets will fit most any .30 cal rifle(30-06, .300 Sav, 30-30, etc) That is sort of what I am getting at. FDXX75
  19. What's Ron White's saying................................Well once ya seen one wet beaver...................ya wanna see all of them. LOL FDXX75

  21. I have mentioned this idea at different times and on different forums over the yrs. with limited to poor response..................but will try again. I have read and continue to read numerous posts about folks asking opiinions about different bullet manufacturers, styles, weights, etc. with nearly the same results/responses.................."try both and see which one shoots better". Here lies a problem.......................cost to do so. Possible solution??? A bullet exchange.........................if current members of the site have or are shooting a specific brand, caliber, weight etc. that the member is interested in trying. The member with the said bullet sells/trades a few bullets, (5-10 rounds) (unloaded components only, legally) to the needing member to help conduct testing and lower costs. Or If a member already has several boxes of bullets they purchased to test and did not like the results, they post what they have available to other members. It seems like a win - win situation/solution for everyone involved. Any ideas / feedback on this.......................................or members willing to get involved. Maybe, the powers to be could add a rolling thread or a sticky to be reviewed by members like a bulletin board in the classified section??????? just a thought. FDXX75
