Many yrs. ago I got feed up with not having the right/correct size "stick, rod or gambrel" to hang my deer up with and to properly hold with skinning/processing. I worked on an idea I had and after several prototypes, this is my final outcome. The gambel is adj. to three setting to cover everything from a 'yote to a very large deer..........................The end hooks are angled so you can split the rear hind quarters with a meat saw, remove one side and the other will not tip and fall off on the garage floor. Material list: 43" - 1 1/2" x 1/4" flat stock 1 - 1 1/2" ring 1 - clevis Here are some pics of one of the many I have built over the yrs. FDXX75

Hand held GPS units?
FULLDRAWXX75 replied to Single_shot's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
The Garmin 60CSx is a good unit for the money, I just saw one at Bass Pro Shop for just over $250.00. It is compatible with the Delorme Topo USA software, removable SD mem card up to 2gb. Nice unit, It will be my next buy. FDXX75 -
When it comes to glass, whether bino's or scopes.................you will get what you paid for. Fact. The best way to choose is by application, what is it you want to do with them? Secondly, at what distance are you looking to use them (min./max.)? Lastly, under what conditions will you most likely be using them(daytime vs. low light) The magnigication will allow you detail and FOV, the objective lens size and quality will determine your clarity and light gathering abilities. I am not a fan of Tasco products, but I was given a set of 8x20 compacts as a gift, I have to say I have been happy with them and impressed with the clarity of the lens. I had a set of Bushnell's that sucked in comparison. I have a set of Leupold 8x42 and a set of Pentex 7x35 both are extremely well built and have great glass, there are about as big as I care to carry on an everyday trip, but find myself not needing them in 75% of the area's I hunt now a days. I have not used this product personally, but from the reviews and a few guys I know that have tried it, it has good ratings. Clean burning, slightly higher velocity stats, better multiple shots without having to swab the barrel and very easy clean up were the top feedback statements on the product. FDXX75

What set up are you using...................gun, powder charge, bullet combo and at what distance was the shot? FDXX75

For cleaning immediately after using the gun(highly recommended with BP guns) I use Dawn dish detergent and boiling water, brass bore brush and patch jig. I have cleaned some nasty guns that had been left dirty; Rusty Duck,T/C #13 Bore Cleaner and Bore Butter are all great products. I had a friend who owned a Knight in line that no matter how good he cleaned the barrel it would rust inside the barrel every time, I worked on that barrel for several days with Rusty Duck and Bore Butter, cleaning and seasoning the barrel per say. To this day it stays good without rusting after he cleans it...............I honestly believe the Bore Butter penetrated the pours in the metal and seasoned it like you would an ole cast iron skillet. Rock, Have run that load through a cronograph to see what it's pushin' for fps????? I have read good things about that powder but always 68 - 76 gr. Have you ever tried any bullets in the 250 gr class??? FDXX75

I experienced the same if not worse problem when I tried the Federal Premium Copper Sabot Slugs, I shot a buck three times broadside with them before he finally dropped to a neck shot.............................hardly any entry or exit wound to speak of. I use the Remington solid coppers in my H&R slug gun, Brenneke's in my Remington 11-87 Premier, Remington Sluggers in my Ithaca 37 & Browning A-5. FDXX75

I come from a long line of DIY'ers, LOL Our motto: If we can't fix it....................yep, it's definately broke. I have made everything from my own screw in steps to adj. deer gambrels(I will post pics)to folding portable treestands.........................arrow targets, transportable shooting bench and target holders. It is great to say "I made that"................. FDXX75

If so, what load data do you have or would like to share? Any brands of bullet work better (accuracy/performance) at the range and in the field? Thanks FDXX75

If it is an inline mzldr, just push the charge out the breech end with a wooden dowel and hammer. I am surprised the charge stayed in the barrel once the breech plug was removed. Word of advise, never store your gun with powder in it........................very corrosive, damage to the barrel "will" happen. FDXX75

It all boils down to which one your gun likes better...................................and what you are looking to achieve from the bullet. FDXX75

Wildcats160, The Remington 700 is an excellent choice, as far as the caliber goes and what you have stated you may want to do with it......................I would stick with the .308 or .30-06. Both are great and very versitile when looking to handload (there is a wide spread of available bullets and load combo's for both of them) I personally think the .270 is on the light side for Elk sized animals, IMO. As far as accuracy and long range distances with the .308, correct me if I am wrong but it is still one of the calibers of choice by the US military snipers. FDXX75

Which shotgun slug to use??
FULLDRAWXX75 replied to longislandhunter's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
lihunter, All guns react to different ammo differently, even guns of same make and model. I currently have 4 different slug guns set up strickly for deer hunting the Southern Tier, I have to use 3 different manufacturers of slugs to get the best performance out of my guns. I personally am not a fan of rifled "choke" tubes, I believe a fully rifled barrel will give you your best performance and accuracy. There is some good advise listed above about trying different brands to see which one your gun likes best........................with todays prices, that will get costly. Trust me I know....................I have literally spent hundreds of $ on slugs fine tuning my guns. If you do decide to do the testing, take your time, use a rest, and let the barrel cool in between shots or it will effect your overall results. I personally like the Brenneke Heavy Field Short Mag 1 1/4 oz; 2 3/4" Their accuracy is spot on and the performance is flawless. FDXX75 -
