for what it is worth, I've had Varix II and III and never found them to be any better or worse than Nikon Prostaff's or Monarchs. In the woods we hunt in the Northeast we just aren't going to be as demanding of clarity and focus at higher powers. I can count on one hand how many times I have ever cranked a scope past 7x. My 3-9's sit somewhere between 4-6 on the high side.

True, and so are the Redfiled Revolutions (Leupold bough them). I use Leupold B&R's on everything and I install them myself. There's really not a lot to it. I wouldn't let anyone at Dicks inatsll glass for me.
-
Exactly, a Nikon Monarch UCC (top of the line) 3-9x40 at Dicks is under $350.
-
I love Nikon, most of the Leupolds areen't any better but are priceier. I did get one of the newer Bushnell Trophy scopes and I am really impressed with it. If you are gonna spend lLeupold kind of cash cehch out the Buris Fullfileds.

Go strong or go home!!!!! 48 hours left in 2011 to get it done from full draw.

Took a four on Saturday Afternoon. 18' ladder in an abandoned orchard on a hillside. At 2:30 I opened a can of Tinks 69 Buck-Bomb that I dropped under the stand to fog up the orchard. About every 20 minutes or so I doe bleated. At 4:10 I spotted the buck 50 yards off to my left with his nose to the ground and his ears back. He was tending grunting right into the stand. I drew my Bear Strike and waited for him to come into 20 yards. At 20 he gave me a quartering-to shot, I grunted once to stop him. I pulled the trigger and sent a Rage 2 Blade broadhead through both of his lungs. He turned and ran up the hillside. About two seconds later I heard a crash. The spot where he stood when I shot him was engulfed in blood. The entire trail up to him was more like a crime scene than an orchard. He was only 50 yards from the stand, he only ran 30 yards after the Rage opened a 2" wide hole in his chest. He dressed out at 125 pounds. My only complaint is that he snapped my Harvest Time HT2 arrow when he ran through the orchard. He was the 7th deer I had come into bow range that day.

You will love it, awesome hunting. Totally different hunting deer in brush country (western brush that is). My advice is shoot something flat and make sure you are in good cardio shape. The altitude, dry air and adrenalin will really wear you out otherwise. I left half of the meat with my buddy who hosted (and hunted with) us.The rest is going to be donated to a food kitchen in Paiute Reservation.

Hello there fellas,.... back in the air now. As far as all of the hooker jokes and innuendo's nothing doing. I'm a red blooded American male and fear my wife like the rest of you. LOL. That said, you can't swing a cat after dark in the great state of Nevada without hitting one,..... or FIVE!!!!! The hunt was a success. Three hunters three mulies, nothing too impressive as they go, 3 eights (4x4 in mulie terms). Saw a lot of deer though. It was pretty cold and very windy which made sneaking in on them really difficult. The one I got was from just under 300 yards. In the range finder was dead on at 284 yds. The 270 WSM dropped like a bag of bricks. Having some weird things happen with the computer so I will try to attach the photo. That said unit 262 is awesome deer hunting and not entirely remote. If you decide to do it elevation and lack of humidity take some getting used to. Stay hydrated, lot of water. We hunted the Mt. Charleston Wilderness most of which is above 5,000 feet. Okay I give up,.... someone tell me how to up load a pic.

Thanks! PS- I tinned the lady when she all but came out and said what she does, she's looks a little uneasy now.....

His Tag is Newbie Hunter, let's cut him some slack. I go out west every other year and to Virginia ranch land every year and still only use 3-9's. Plenty of magnification for an ought' six shooting at any NA big game.

Gents I am writing this from 36,000' in the air over Peoria IL. Airline internet access is a joke. I want my $12.95 back. In 3:14 (h:m) I will be in Nevada with my longtime hunting pal and fellow Law Enforcement Professional John B. After a short 3 hour drive in a rental from the airport we will be in Mesquite covered hills of the Paiute Bad Lands on the edge of the Sierras for a 3 day Mule Deer hunt. This is my second one in five years and it should be on every hunters' bucket list. A pair of 270's (one Win and one WSM). Good hiking boots and mid-weight hunting clothes and we are good-to-go. Oh yeah and a kick butt pair of binoculars. Our guide is a old friend who moved out west to the region we are hunting 12 years ago. So back to the flight...... Typical Nevada travel the plane is full of gamblers and women who are making my spider senses tingle. The one sitting across the aisle from me is clearly a lady of evening,.... Young, attractive, probably a warehouse of biological diseases,..... I don't have the heart to tell her what I do for a living. LOL. That being said, I will probably post pics (if successful, keep your fingers crossed). Last time we did this, I took a 4x4 mulie the second day out. I wouldn't mind if lightening struck twice in a row.

50's are good for lower light situations, otherwise 40mm is just as good too. The newer scopes with the better coatings may gather more light and transmit it back through the eye more efficiently. I have a 40mm Nikon Monarch on my 700 Buckmaster that gathers more light than my 50 mm Nikon Prostaff on my Vanguard Back Country. Good glass is great, great glass is better.
-
go get a 3-9x40 Nikon Prostaff or a Bushnell Trophy. You won't be disappointed and you have some money left over for beer and 25 cent poker.
-
slight variation, properly tuned is everything...... If you're shooting an arrow that is too heavy or too light for the draw weight and arrow length you will loose a lot of efficiency. I'm shooting a 353 gr arrow at 65 lbs that is 30" long. I blows holes through everything. I'm also using a Rage 2 Blade mechanical. The arrows were tailing left until I took the bow down a couple of pounds. Hencing tuning did the trick.
-
That's what these are. I just liked them in Facebook as well. The arrows are amazing and one I took a 1/2 turn off each limb the left handed kicking ended and the groups tightened up nicely at 30 yards.

as someone who has to deal with that element all of the time, here are my thoughts in reading this,.... 1) as well demonstared from teh article, the time they are caught is rarely the first offense 2) their mistakes are the cranal sins of all idiots, they got greedy 3) I'm sure the gang bangers and generalized skells in County will love hanging out with weirdo poachers (weird by crimnals standards),.... hope they enjoy their time in the shower.

I hear ya, for fun on Monday, I put in a scrape on a nature preserve by my house inside a rub line (can't hunt in my township,.... I know its stupid, but that's another story). I used Grave Digger and sparyed some Code Blue Doe Estrous on a licking branch above. I let it sit about 30 minutes and then started some really light rattling with a few buck growls tossed in for good measure. Within an hour I had three different bucks come by, one was a decent eight, nothing too impressive but it was a shooter in book anyday. I went back yesterday (I was patrolling near by). The mock scrape still smelled great and two more scapes were opened on either side of it both within a 12' circle. I'd say the next week and a half is going to be off the charts. I wanted to try another one in a different spot and doe bleat near it, except the Grave Digger isn't that cheap to mess with. If nothing else, its great calling practice.

Well done. He'll look great on the wall. -
WOW, I've only seen deer bodies that big in Canada. He's a tank.

Good thing he wasn't gun hunting!!!!!!

Set the bow at 63 pounds, new arroes are shooting great. better than my Easton Epics. I highly recommend these Harvest Time arrows. Thanks for the advise and for looking out for me on this. Now I just need to get a deer in front of me.
