Thomposn Center Encore Pro Hunter
eagle rider replied to eagle rider's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
So I'm thing to sit in a stand with one is okay. The limitation of the single shot ain't that limiting. -
Anyone hunt in the regular season with a TC Encore. I just got on in 30-06.

The eratic flight is being seen more at distance becasue the spine is too weak? What if I drop the bow to 65 pounds?
-
I use to shoot Easton Epic Raiders, 340 spine 30" at 70 lbs with a 100 gr head (Rage 2 Blade). The arrow was AMO at 425 grs. The bow was very consistent at both 20 and 30 yds. (I shoot a Bear Strike). I recently went down to an IBO arrow. The bow is faster since the new arrow is 72 grs lighter and I am now shooting at 5 grs per pound instead of 6. At 20 yards the faster arrows group just as good at the heavier Easton's had. At 30 yards my groups seem to be consistently left about 5". I would expect them to be a bit wider since my 42 year old eyes ain't that what they used to be. Any thoughts?????Is it just the lighter arrows are a bit flakier???? The new arrows are Harvest Time HT2's (The Harvester) and they are the same straightness as the Easton's, .003, in their arrow its a 350 spine and the length, vanes and broadhead are all the same. Has anyone had anything like this before? The bow ain't the fastest by far, so I thought the lighter arrow would give me more of edge. Maybe I should paper tune it? HHHEEELLLPPPP!!!! I don't have a lot of time to get this worked out. I am leaving for Nevada for Mule Deer next Saturday and when I get back, I go right up to Ostego for the last week of bow season.

oooohhhhhhh yyyyyeeeeaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!! Great job.

Horrible, when was the last accidental shooting fatality? I can't recall any last season.
-
Thnaks guys. I'm pretty anxcious to try it out.
-
Anyone ever use this stuff. I figured I'd try it. I ave pretty good luck around scrapes. I bought the Scrapemate formula. I figured I'd put it in under a stand with buck urine on a wick over the scrape. I'm opened to suggestions though......
-
Well done. Its an awesome feeling.
-
Huh, that's interesting. The common assumption is that it spun off the 30-06. Now that you mention it,.. it is fractionally longer than the 30-06.
-
great thoughts guys.

Great job. You know you done something arrowing a gobbler.

Same deal here. The ECO's say the 3 Blade Rage is illegal in NY because the blades can lock in the fixed position creating a barbed head. The 2 blade model can't because the blades deploy on the same 180 degree angle the ferrule. I have never seen it, Rage says its impossible, by the State believes it can and I'm not gonna fight city hall. Let the experts at Rage take up that cause. I will tell you this, I did see a guy use a three blade a few years back on a boar hunt in South Carolina,...... If you think the 2 blade bleeds them quick, the three blade drains them much, MUCH faster!!!!

do you deer hunt with them?
-
Any thoughts on this one??????? I'm selling a rifle to a friend and want to roll the cash into a TC Encore Prohunter, anyone have an opinion on these?
-
I inherited my dad's,,,,,, He bought his in '85.

2 blade rage, its not a blood trail,...... its a crime scene!!!!! They don't go far at all. I shot Muzzy 100's for 23 years and made the switch last year.

35 Remington Lever Action Marlin
eagle rider replied to eagle rider's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Aren't they awesome. I think this years bag of tricks will be the 35 lever Marlin and Thompson Center Encore 30-06. Covered from the treestand to mucking around the swamps. -
Gotta diagree with you, the 25-06 will get you all they up to 120 gr loadings and give you better SD for deer. The 243 is a fine choice too, but for the once in a life time long distance shot, you carry more mail with the baby 'ott-six and day of the week and twice on Sundays! I took a shot and connected two years with a 25-06 on a big meat down across a field and up a ridge side from my stand. It was 500 yds. Legit. Held over I held one body width high and dropped her where she stood. Would do well with the 243 and there is no difference in the felt recoil. I still hit the deer with 1/2 a ton of umph. With the 243, I'd be just as flat, but close to 300 foot pounds less with a bullet that is 20 grains lighter.

Loving the bisquet back on the Strike. Feel like I am back in control now. -
Stainless Steel barrel vs deer vision
eagle rider replied to Warren's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
A camo warp will do you fine too, but remeber stainless doesn't mean it can't oxidize, so take the wrap off when you are done hunting and clean it well. Also I have seen the heavier wraps affet zero, so if you go with one, reconfirm your scope settings. In my opinion, even though deer are color blind, I always feels as though the more subdued you are in the field, the less likely a deer will pick you up. They have an incredible ability to detect movement and a brighter looking barrel could be a flag.... but its a slim and unlikely chance a brrel will be the tipping point. Like it said earlier, get the working end of the tube pointing at the vitals and you will be just fine. I havenever had an issue with my stainless rifles. -
243 is a fine choice, 25-6 is a bit better. I think the recoil on both is about the same. Maybe a touch more abrupt with the 25-06. Certuanly better way down range on deer. I have a 25-06 Vanguard Sporter, great rifel, awesome factory trigger and will not break the bank (depending on your budget), If he's on the small side that rifle could be too long for him. I know in a youth size stock, the 243 is typically available. If he could handle the bigger stock, I think the 25-06, long term, will do him better.

awesome accuracy with commercial loads. Very impressive.

Stainless Steel barrel vs deer vision
eagle rider replied to Warren's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Larry, you are right on!!!!! I have two stainless deer rifiles. One is a 270 Win Weatherby Vanguard and the other is a Knight Big Horn Mag 50 Cal. I've taken plenty of deer with both, never had a problem with them getting spooked by glinting light. -
What type of rifle rounds ?
eagle rider replied to BIGHUNTER2700537's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
At 100 yds I erraticated the X Ring with a 5 shot group of 270 WSM using 72.1 grs of RS Mag and a 130 gr Sierra Gameking. 3185 through the chrono. I think I found my new whitetail voodoo!!!!!!
