I'm starting to question my shooting ability.
Shoots100 replied to Shoots100's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I started out with lights 43 years ago and got into thermal in the early 90's. Thermal prices have gone way down and the resolution has gone way up compared to what I paid back then. I'm not in it for style, I want the best gear for my money to to be able to kill more efficiently. To some of my hunting friends, $5,000 is an entry level price for a thermal scope. I try to get the most for my money and I've had scopes that cost twice as much as my XP38, but I didn't get twice the performance for the money, so away they went. It can sometimes be a very expensive learning experience. I'm in it for the kill. Thats my main focus, so sometimes I record and sometimes I don't. I'm not in it for money either, as I leave them where they lay. I'd have to go out west to make money hunting coyote. That would then be called work and thats not why I hunt. I still have friends that hunt with lights and all power to them. I know what their missing and it's a lot. Calling them in and not seeing them schools the coyote and that makes them tougher to hunt. I don't look down on hunters that don't have the latest gadgets and gear either, as most of them go hunting way more than the hunters that have all the top gear. I only carry what I need for the type of hunt I'm going on. It's the same gear I use to hunt deer, so carrying the same gear around for a month+ before deer season, prepares me for deer season. Coyote is my poison and if I had to go back to square one, by hunting them like I used to, with a rayovac flashlight tied to a single barreled shotgun, I wouldn't be a happy camper, but I'd do it. -

You want to play, you have to pay ! 640 res thermal scope + extra batteries $5,000+ Gen 3 NV goggles for navigation - $1,800+ Decent 384 res thermal scanner - $1,300 Decent Electronic call - $200+ Trigger stick tripod and rifle clamp - $175 Ruling the dark - Priceless -
The future is nuclear energy, yet we're trying to power the world and travel on electric cars that run on batteries that pollute more than any type of fossil fuel. The audubon society said that wind turbines kill a lot of migratory birds ? Do you not care about the birds future's ?

The image and detail you see in the scopes display is much better than what you see in the compressed footage. I was going to get the XG scope with the BAE core, but they didn't have it in stock yet and they only offer it in the 50mm version. The base mag is 3x and I wanted to have the 1.5x base mag and FOV of the XP38 for the terrain I hunt in. If I lived out west, I would've bought the XG. I've looked through scopes and mono's with BAE cores before and the clarity and detail of that core is almost as good as a cooled sensor unit. With the low prices of decent thermal scopes and optics these days, everyone should have some type of thermal optic in their kit bag. -
Their sense of smell is incredible. We hid a camera in a stone wall about 15 feet off a main trail and within an hour we had pics of multiple doe checking it out. Like a Dolls Eye !

I cut out a lot of the down time I had in between, as I had a fellow hunter with a NV scope that was with me, that has never shot a coyote at night and I was waiting for him to shoot for a couple of minutes, until I couldn't take it anymore. I had several times that they were side by side and it would've been nice to shoot a double with one shot, but I was using the 20 practical that night and a pass thru might not have happened. Thermal rules. -

Thanks. Pulsar Thermion XP38. Love this scope and it's been a real performer. Going to mount it on the Savage Impulse predator.243 I'm picking up from my FFL tomorrow and it'll be my main 2021 predator rig, if it performs. -

Well, I got my confidence back and redeemed myself on the 27th by killing a coyote that was harassing bovine at a local farm. These coyote probably were responsible for the death of a newborn calf the weekend before. We spotted them at over 350+ yards away and closed the gap with a 250 yard stalk. One of my most memorable coyote hunts. Enjoy. https://youtu.be/OgSh6tetSfU- 18 replies

You would think that after so many news organizations, journalists and "reporters" have been caught lying to the public, that maybe they would try to gain the publics trust back and maybe stop inciting hatred, but the lies and hate baiting just keep on coming. The latest attack on an Asian American woman in NYC has brought out the press vultures again and of course the last statement's from the reporter are filled with lies and false numbers that the average person would think was the truth, as their expecting the truth. This is just one article from hundreds. It's the latest in a spate of attacks targeting Asian Americans in New York City and across the nation. The coronavirus pandemic and its suspected origins in the Chinese city of Wuhan is cited as having led to a fresh onslaught of asain american studies in the United States that has waged on for over year. (It's been proven that the first cases of Covid19 were from Wuhan, the debate is if it's natural or man made.) From March 19, 2020, to Feb. 28, 2021, there were more than 3,795 hate incidents, including verbal harassment and physical assault, against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States, reported to Stop AAPI Hate, a nonprofit organization that tracks such incidents. (Stop AAPI Hate has been proven that they've padded their numbers. Most of their "Hate Crimes" refer to incidents that would be considered general crime and nothing to do with race, the victims just happened to be asian, in asian communities.) On March 16, a gunman killed eight people, including six Asian women, in three separate shootings at spas in the Atlanta area. Rallies have been held in dozens of U.S. cities in recent weeks calling for an end to anti-Asian violence. (The shooter was a Sex addict and he targeted the "spas" that refused him service. Coincidentally, these were spas that he frequented in the past.)

Yes it is. A long time ago, I had a friend that said he wanted to shoot trap with us. Asked all sorts of questions about shotguns and shells for it. Because he didn't have a lot of money, I told him to buy a single shot H&R 20ga. He used that shotgun to blow his brains out the night he bought it. At least the had the decency to not ask me to borrow one of my shotguns to kill himself. When someone wants to go, there's nothing you can do, unless they ask for help. SJC

No. An automobile is a tool, just like a firearm is a tool. You don't use it and it doesn't do anything. The person that uses it is the catalyst that makes it deadly or not. Plain Automobile accidents kill over 40,000 people a year. Add the other unintentional and intentioned deaths caused by automobiles and your around 100,000+ deaths. Does the inconvenience of not using an automobile to get somewhere quicker than riding a bicycle or walking constitute the Death toll caused by automobiles ? It seems so. We need to focus on the person, not the tool.

Handguns were created as side arms, for use when your main battle weapon runs dry and handguns kill way more people than AR's ever will. AR's "are" battle weapon's and were designed for that purpose. The 2nd amendment wasn't written after the founding fathers came back from a hunting trip, it was written after they won a war of oppression and that war wasn't won with spears, it was won with muskets that were designed for battle. Those muskets were also very good for hunting game too. The same principle applies to this day and age. If safety is such a big concern, then the speed limit in the US would be 55 MPH everywhere and cars wouldn't be able to go over 55 mph. Speeding kills over 10,000 Americans a year (not to mention the other fatalities and injuries caused by automobiles) and although cars are a needed tool for almost every American, why do they need to go over 55 Mph, if it'll save thousands of lives a year ? Safety is only cared about, when a political objective needs to be shoved down your throat. Ask the victims and the families of the victims that have suffered under the Bail reform law's that ass hat Gov cuomo Implemented. If he cared about the publics safety, why let criminals out of jail and let them commit crime after crime against unarmed and helpless citizens ? They don't give a rats ass about your safety. Yet they hide behind armed to the teeth security, because their important. You need to take any means necessary to protect you and your loved one's lives. It's not supposed to be a fair fight and if an armed criminal (That doesn't care about the SAFE act, because their a freaking criminal) is coming to harm my family, I want an AR death machine with a 30 round magazine in my hands, not a musket. Gun Control Bill Headed To The Senate

I really need to question this, as Grouse has been on here warning the public of how America's gun rights and freedoms have been and are being taken away and your calling him a Liberal ? In all fairness, your not helping the argument about conservative gun owners being unintelligent idiots with the post quoted above. Lets agree to disagree, because as responsible gun owners, we can't afford to be divided in these times. -

Looking over the video with a clear head, I think I hit a stump, as I can see the glow of a bullet strike at the 57 second mark after I take the shot. That probably fragmented the 40 grn projo, causing it to wound the coyote. SJC -
Went out Monday PM, called in a small yote, shot at it, looked like I hit it, never saw it exit the scene, found some blood and didn't recover the body. Never had this happen two times in a row. I didn't check zero after this occurrence, but the other time it happened, I did and it was dead nuts out to 200 yards. It's a proven weapon, cartridge and scope combo, with all one shot kills this season. I'm going to try again this week and weekend and hope I can redeem myself before the season ends. https://youtu.be/srczRiZRoNo

Gun Control Bill Headed To The Senate
Shoots100 replied to Steve D's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I agree with you for the most part, but now that more of the city folk have seen that they cannot depend on the police for protection when they needed it, they have a different view of firearms and their need for being the protector of their families lives now, hence the 1,000% increase of firearms purchases and pistol permit applications in NY state. One negative of the mass exodus of the city folks moving into the upstate communities, is a lot of city folk will vote like a city slicker in matters that they have no clue about, yet because they know what's better for you, better than you know what's better for you, upstate local elections are going to be crazy. Our votes are being negated by politicians, with rich donors funding lobbyists and a like minded press to do their bidding. I don't blame others for thinking Guns are bad, as all they see and hear from the press are negative news stories about evil firearms and the "White" racist men who use them to kill minorities every day of the week. No political party can overcome those odd's and it's just a matter of time before anyone with a gun beside an LE officer will be seen as a radical nut job. We have heavily armed guards and a fence toped with razor wire around the capitol buildings. Who thought that would ever happen ? This world is nuts and despite what the politicians say, I'll be clinging to my rifle and using a bible to give me guidance, as that's the way my family has survived for six generations in this state. -

I'll answer your hypothetical question, with a real answer. Your next move would be to fight or give up and let the jurors decide your fate. Hypothetically, If your sitting in your chair with a fully accessorized "Assault Weapon" loaded to the max and you let them knock on your door, you've made up your mind to fight tyranny long before they were coming for you. Remember this, David Koresh was ready for the raid and in the end, all that's left of the branch Davidian compound is a small chapel in a barren field. -
I don't call someone else crazy, until all the voices in my head fully agree with my assessment.
-
I'd agree, but since the politicians currently in office want to take away our scary firearms and probably all of our deadly hunting weapons if they had free reign, we need to keep the members up to date on what's happening in the political arena.

Never heard of a 1.5 oz load for 28ga. I use a 1 oz heavy load with 7.5 for my second shot when afield, if needed. That 1oz wad has a pretty small base, so the 1.5 oz load must just use a shot cup. With the advertised FPS of that load, you'd better keep your shots close.

The blood is in the water and now the sister of a crackpot 3rd world country is threatening this administration, our southern border is being overwhelmed and prices of everything are starting to rise. And this is just the start of this BS. I'd rather have someone in office that got things done, can remember what day it is, than someone that looks presidential and can't remember how to tweet or utter a coherent sentence.

After the recent no knock Fed apprehension in Florida of a DC rioter and the concurrent total lockdown of said rioter bank and family accounts, I afraid we may find out the answer to that question pretty soon. There are people waiting for this to happen in a larger scale before they take action and if that happens, it's not going to be pretty, as they would take the fight to them and not wait for a knock at the door. -
Coyotes On The Move Across New York
Shoots100 replied to Steve D's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
As long as they have refuge and a season, the coyote population will never be effectively controlled. I do see a difference on/near my land upstate, as I have friends, trappers and dog's that continually harass them. We find some of their dens and set trail cams to watch them year round. Their part of the food chain too.
