Vaccination
Gobbler Chaser replied to johnplav's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Interesting to see despite the vaccine getting out in record numbers the new infection rates remain high and are climbing in many countries. Makes you realize without this vaccine the numbers of this second wave could have really been a horror show.. -
I like starting off Dumb Hunting and will move along after a couple hrs for what's called Run and Gun hunting. You stand and listen, all Ears and when you hear one move his way and give a few yelps and see if he responds and if your closing the distance. When he's responding and within a few hundred yards plop down by a tree and don't move and continue with soft yelps as long as he's talking. You have to be kind of a slut for lack of better words. Best thing is get out there and you'll learn the game better than anyone can teach you. Go on to UTube and learn and practice your calling, mostly yelps, putts and clucks. Find a place where you won't annoy people and practice your calling.

Biggest mistake most newbies do is overcall. Best way to really learn the game is be out there alot. Start mid April and just sit on the edge of a pasture or right in the middle of the woods at sun up. Do this in different locations a couple times a week, just listen, don't call. When May 1st rolls around you'll have a pretty good idea of where you'll wanna be. If you consistently hear them in a particular area you might wanna throw up a blind day or two before and do what they call Dumb Hunt. That's where you nestle in before light and try and bring them to you with limited calling.

I could have gone either way on this verdict. On a second note for those saying there would be rioting no matter what the verdict. WHAT HAPPENED? I had an all night riots on TV planned? Popcorn, beer, the works?
-
At this point all I can hope for is May 1 hunters moving birds into my area. Went over to state land yesterday before light and was disappointed. Another line hunter there doing the same as me.

If they let Chauvin walk you'd surely be crying about our cities burning tonight. Nothing will make people like you happy.

I find this hard to believe

Crossbow Full Inclusion Support needed
Gobbler Chaser replied to tughillmcd's topic in CrossBow Hunting
Most hunters who hunt private land are pretty much using xbows all season if that's what they want to do anyway. I've grown old waiting for full inclusion arguing this with knuckleheads for 20plus yrs now. Funny alot of these very knuckleheads cry freedom only as long as it falls in line with their ideals -
The people have spoken, what anyone thinks on this forum or anywhere else doesn't matter now

I watch closing arguments today and the defense put up a pretty convincing display. And I say this because the attorney for Chauvin did show that the amount of pressure exerted on Mr Floyd's neck and "shoulder" was in fact controlled, and he only used enough force to keep GF restrained. I changed my opinion on this and believe Floyd's physical health, drug use and most of all his mental state were the contributing factors to his death. Still a tragic situation.

One thing for sure if there's not a murder conviction or the judge is ignorant enough to rule a mistrial all hell is going to break loose. I'm pro cop but this thug has to be locked up.

Last season I managed to call one stray gobbler into my back woods early season and bagged him at 25yds. That was it. This season I think I'd almost feel guilty killing one around here. I hunted some nice state land last yr and even though never being able to close the deal on one I did have some great conversation with the Toms there. One thing that really made me happy and has me looking forward to getting over there again is that there were Zero hunters? Tens of thousands of acres of varying terrain with nobody there but me.

Your right about early hay cutting. I passed a hay field a few years back and saw dead poults everywhere. Right on the road squashed as they fled cutting and walked across the road getting run over by cars. My wife was, what are all these dead birds, so I pulled over to check it out and they were young turkeys.
-
Funny thing. My hearing has diminished over the years, yet I can still hear a gobbler sounding off when others can't.
-
Why so angry? Enjoy life.
-
Come on, cause of death was a knee on the neck.
-
They had the guy cuffed? Couldn't they just have ankle cuffed him too and sat him up?

Yes, alot of us have become spoiled being able to walk out our doors to hunt turkey. I myself have hunted nearby state land last season. I didn't score but did have some calling interaction. I'm planning on heading over for some early morning coffee, ears open by the side of the road scouting next week.

My breakfast was Spam and Eggs with a side of grits.

And meanwhile Suffolk County down on the sandbar has a rapidly expanding turkey population. I grew up in what used to be rural Suffolk County, cabbage and duck farms as far as the eye could see, and we used to come up to Orange/Ulster counties to hunt spring turkey.
