  1. My dogs seem to have a lack of understanding about where those tasty turkey cutlets and venison loins they love originate from
  2. Yep, it seems turkey numbers can be very volatile. In the last say decade of declining numbers I do recall one or two seasons where things perked up and I thought, hey it's back to normal only to be disappointed early in the season and following fall.
  3. Thing is hear nothing seems to have changed. Yote population is down, locals doing a great job of keeping them in control. Last couple winters haven't been that bad. Here I am retired and the birds are gone. When I used to head out to work at daybreak just a light tap on my truck horn would make 4 or 5 birds sound off a few hundred feet in the woods. Oh well?
  4. Yes that area of the state that you hunt seems to hold a good population. I have family in lower Orange/Rockland and they have birds in their yards, fields and just abi everywhere.
  5. I've seen a steady decline here in lower Ulster upper Orange. Only 10 years ago I had flocks of 60+ birds walking under my fall deer hunting bow stands, and would see large groups cruising thru when I was out during rifle season. The numbers have shrunk to maybe one sighting of 5 or 6 birds in the fall and this last fall absolutely nothing. I'm sitting out now a couple mornings a week as the sky lightens as I do every pre season listening and all I'm hearing are owls. I'm more than alittle concerned.
  6. Back in the 60s my old man used to blow their backs off with a .222. From what I know now I think that was overkill. A .22 mag would fit the ticket perfectly. No head shots. Right straight up the leg 2 inch's below the back would take the spine out, no big mess, and breast meat you can't eat. Never liked pulling lead shot with the feathers it pulls thru in my Turkey cutlets.
  7. Yes, they were a constipated group. I only checked in now and then. I was booted from the one you linked
  8. Throw it out and get a new one! This conversation is making my head spin
  9. Not going to be easy finding a bolt on loader. Find something close and fabricate steel to make it fit. You'll need to be able to weld and cut steel 1/2 in or more. And drill large holes. Can certainly be done. Just have to shop for something you can make work. If your going to pay a welder/fabricator to make what you buy fit it might not be worth it.
  10. In Germany that's all you see along the Autobahn. Windmills and Solar panels.
  11. My gravel drive is 800 ft and uphill in both directions
  12. Grouse, I used to be like you. You state your 65 and have nothing to lose by arming yourself and going up against your government. 65 isn't old and you should be looking forward to enjoying the rest of your life. I live in NY and when the safe act was introduced back in 2013 I freaked out, I went to rallies, spent countless hrs on forums and sent hundreds of emails. But here we are 8 years later and I still have all my guns. All my trusty turkey shotguns, my deer rifles, rim fires all still in my possession and I still carry my trusty sidearm wherever I go. Alright I can't own an unmodified AR or AK and I'm fine with that. Any revolution by urban hostiles will be met with my trusty deer rifles and I'm a great shot. Needing an AR to go up against the NY state police or national guard is not something I'll ever need. I've come accept alot over time and really dont think anyone should have ever been able to purchase a gun without an ffl in a private sale anyway. No one is ever going to take my guns, I have no doubt about that. I've come to accept guns laws and I'm a better man for it. I'm 65, happily retired looking forward to many more years in the field doing what I love. I'm alot less stressed and enjoy time with my family more and I'm alot calmer now. I separated myself from gun forums which was my first big step and only visit here on occasion. So at 65 enjoy life, your well into the last quarter my friend, so make the most of it. Besides a federal pen is no place for for men of our age, lol.
  13. What about Trump's trillions in tax giveaways to big oil and other corporations who've been profiting pretty nicely off the backs of working Americans since 2010. The same corporations that do much of their business worldwide in countries that would benefit from our failure like Russia? The retired union folk I know and live in my neighborhood spend their money right here supporting local business like car dealerships, lawn care, pizza places, home improvement ect. Heck here in upstate NY they're the only ones keeping our economies alive
  14. I take it your not a union member and don't enjoy the benefits of a union pension.
  15. There's fact, science and reasoning by statistical data. Opinions don't count for much when it comes to science
  16. I've stopped going to the range. Looked down the barrel of one too many guns..
  17. Great fighter. Hag Hearns best fight I ever saw. Foreman Lyle was also something to behold
  18. My days of arguing with anti crossbow hunters and their half-witted reasons for being against it are long over. On a lighter note Turkey season is quickly approaching.
  19. My Sister has annoyed the crap outta me in the last couple years. I'm actually using this pandemic thing to avoid going to see her.
  20. These new carbs has restrictions on the air fuel adjustment screws. Remove the restrictions and turn the screws all the way in then back them out a half turn. Run it and adjust from there. Also one more thing if that doesn't do it. These replacement carbs are great becaut you can by the for 20 bucks, they are cheap. That being said they are cheap and defectives aren't uncommon. Might have to send it back and get another. You already checked the fuel lines being clear so that's about it
  21. I'm 63 and have been retired for 3 yrs. Deer and Turkey seasons are so much more relaxed. If it rains all weekend, fine I just hunt during the week. However Im drinking more beer
  22. I'm still freakin out over the Mr Potato Head thing!!!
