The problem I have this time of year is that the deer movements are very random. They don't seem to use any established trails and simply go from point A to point B in any old hap-hazard way. Plus the movement right now is very curtailed, so days can go by without any action. I don't know whether they are simply holding tight in the ugly weather, or that they are covering huge areas in search of food. But anyway, I pulled all the cameras about a couple months ago.

A few years back my nephew wanted to use the phone, so my wife pointed to the old dial type phone. We still keep one in the living room. I still laugh when I think of the way he just stood there trying to figure out where the buttons were.

I think you're right. I don't recall that taking a dump was a group activity. My Grandpa used to use the outhouse even after we installed indoor plumbing. And I still remember the sear catalog out there with the pages torn out....lol.

Just take a glance over at the candy section. If you see a guy with a face full of whiskers, drooling over the bags of licorice, that's probably me. Or some guy staggering under the weight of an arm full of bags of licorice that probably is me. I have a hell of a licorice addiction.

How about the one-room school house that I went to Or a time before school buses Or a time when corporal punishment in schools was not only allowed, but used Or a time when I used to stare at any cars that went down our road because chances are it was a neighbor that I knew. Or a time when I wore my hunting knife to school after running the trapline .... And nobody thought a thing about it. Or the old three-hole outhouse. Not at camp but as part of the main residence. By the way....anyone know why there was more than one hole?

It is kind of unique store. It's not one that you just go into and wander around for a few minutes and leave. It used to be a big old Walmart before they built the new super store. I kind of describe it as being a Tractor Supply and Lowes on steroids. Nothing amazing about the prices one way or the other, but the merchandise selection is almost a one-stop-shopping experience. By the way, they are my main supplier of licorice.

So, how do you get your camera to double expose? Is is something that can be done on any digital camera? I used to play with this concept with my film cameras, but have not discovered a way of getting a digital camera to do this.

Unfortunately, gun laws are but one small part of the even larger problem of excessive laws. Every facet of our lives are controlled by laws piled on top of laws, piled on top of laws to the point where you are almost guaranteed to be breaking some law somewhere at sometime even though you have no intention or awareness that you are doing so. It happened to be one of the many gun laws that this guy had no idea he was breaking, but there are so many other potential traps laid in the legal system in every aspect of our existence. Frankly, I would be much more impressed with a candidate that made it his life's work to get rid of laws instead of proposing new ones. I actually feel less safe with the multi-layers of laws that legislators keep adding to, than anything that may be lacking in our legal system. That point seems to be lost on a lot of people until they become involved in a serious problem like this old gent.

I am maybe a little more careful of my bowstring than most since the time I had one break at full-draw and wound up with a basket full of bow parts and a few bandaids on my hand. As it turned out, no permanent damage occurred, but it sure did look devastating...lol. So if a little fussing around can protect something as vital to the function and well being of my bow as the bow-string, I guess its probably good insurance and peace of mind. Whether it's necessary or not, I won't have to worry about finding out. I've been warned by several here within this thread, and I guess I will heed their warning. It seems to be the smart thing to do.

I don't think that any of us are aware of how at-risk we all are for this kind of crap. Everyday we go out into the world totally unaware of all the volumes of laws that are hidden in the pages of our criminal justice system. We have people who spend years learning this system that we laymen are expected to conduct our lives under. Every year, lawmakers pride themselves about the volumes of new laws they cram into the already unreadable amounts of laws that exist to the point where they have created a system that makes criminals of us all, just waiting for the appropriate law enforcement agency to discover inadvertent offenses. It's just not right that a guy can start his day thinking he is a law abiding citizen, and end that day facing a felony that could yield him 10 years of prison.

I have several spools of regular nylon serving from back in my bowstring making days and that stuff is real easy to work with and control. But I got all hung up on the toughness and durability of monofilament and struggled my way through it ..... lol. It does wind up looking real nice and will absolutely protect any bowstring filaments underneath from the abuse of coming down on that stop with every shot. But before I was done with the job, I was wishing I had three hands instead of two.

Truly, there is no other version of trust, love and caring than the bond between a human and their dog. It just does not exist to that level between any other two individuals. Even from one human toward another, it can never rival that unconditional purity of devotion that a dog has toward its owner. It is truly hard to have that suddenly end. In fact it has been so difficult in the past that my wife and I have decided not to have pets ever again to get that attached to. It really gets to be that painful when they leave.

I think I will not publicly list my firearms. Call me paranoid, but it just occurred to me that so far there is no such listing publicly disclosed, and I think I'll just keep it that way.

Right now I have two thermometers that say it is -16 degrees out there. That's not wind-chill, that's actual temperature. I am sure that before daybreak, it will drop some more. When temperatures start with that nonsense, the only outdoors that I do is to scamper from the house to the car and that only happens when I really need to head out town to get some necessary essentials. As far as what's going on out in the woods, that is limited to me sitting on the couch sympathizing with all the poor critters that have to try to survive in those brutal temperatures. You know how they are always telling you to be sure to bring all pets indoors? Well unfortunately the woods-critters (other than those that have underground accommodations) just have to tough it out. And I am sure there are some that won't be making it. But, I figure humans are on a slightly higher level of development, and as long as I have protection against that kind of brutal weather, I guess I will take advantage of it and stay where I belong. Indoors! .... lol.

Ok, it's finally on, and it works good. Just a real quiet dull thump. I served up the string where contact is made, with monofilament. It all came back to me just what a pain that stuff is to work with. It's like trying to use spring wire for serving .... lol. First thing I had to do was to get on the net a refresh my memory on that serving knot. It's been a while. sure does work slick but the mono put some challenge into trying to work with old stiff gnarly fingers....Ha-ha-ha.

I do wonder how the DEC gets a handle on winter kill. I mean everything is based on harvest numbers of the season just gone by, but what happens if those numbers are screwed with by a long, ugly winter that happens after all the numbers are tallied and massaged and written down. I really don't know. perhaps it will take a season or two to account for winter kill. By the way, don't be looking for winter-kill in February. Most deer can make it this far even if they are in horrible shape. But come March and April time frame, if the winter stretches beyond normal, it could be a very nasty situation. It generally is a brutal winter, followed by a very prolonged winter after fat reserves are depleted that does in a bunch of them. With around 2 feet of snow that seems to be permanent, the deer are chewing through body fat reserves, with nothing available to replenish nutrition. Time will tell.

Yup ..... That's what I would need. Snakes can't climb up into those things can they?

I remember that. I was glued to the TV set, and I don't even like hockey. But it was a very exciting thing.

"Turn in your arms" and remember, when the home invaders are breaking down your door and seconds count, the police are only minutes away (if you're lucky)...... "The government will take care of you".

So now when this bill gets an appropriate boot, will we begin hearing about such things as "assault machetes". Perhaps one that has a two handed grip, with a serrated blade, maybe those of a black color. Isn't that the way those things are done? Make the general populace threatened and scared and concerned until they begin to demand that these implements are a scourge to the safety of all citizens. Encourage the media to sensationalize all incidents that involve machetes, until it is believed that assault machetes are used daily in all kinds of heinous crimes? Sorry but all that is really no more ridiculous than this bill to ban machetes....lol. Assault machetes ...... don't be surprised.....ha-ha-ha.

Duck identification has always been something that has confounded me and is probably one of the main things that has kept me out of waterfowl hunting. One laying on the ground next to me is not really a big trick to identify, but flying in, silhouetted against a gray sky, with colors being indistinguishable always seemed like a bit of black magic to me ..... lol. Maybe the O.P. might find books or videos of duck identification in the sky to be something useful. I probably would. Are there such things?
