  1. I get up on the hill quite a bit, snooping around for sign. Also got a fairly regular regimen of bow practice just to keep in the game. Rebuilt another 1/2 dozen arrows. Other than that, I am just enjoying the summer while it is still here.

    THUNDER

This year it is either feast or famine .... floods in one valley and drought in the next. I have had a few of those destructive kinds of rain storms last year. I'll take the drought. The heck with the garden if the alternative is shoveling tons of rocks, gravel, logs and leaves off my lawn like I did last year. Let the damn garden dry up and blow away .... lol. If we do get one of those kinds of violent storms it'll probably wash the garden out anyway.
  3. Look, I will concede that you have much more stamina for turning every thread into a pissing contest. It's a talent you should be very proud of and apparently are since you have become quite predictable in that lately. It actually is a bit comical, but also becomes quite tedious for me and everyone else too. So understanding how important it is for you to get in the last word, how about you have one more go at blaming me for your lack of reading comprehension and we'll be done with it.

    THUNDER

I heard it the day before yesterday, an all we got was the same kind of 20-drop rainfall. The pond is just about dry and it is the only water source near the garden. When it's gone ..... the garden is gone. I figure about three or four days.
  5. Hate to disappoint. But I do hope you pay attention to the message. Your nonsense is getting very predictable too.
  6. Oh, give it a rest will you for crying out loud. If you can't understand things that you read, that's still no need to take up other people's time with your nonsense. I am not a remedial reading instructor. Find a more useful way of handling your PSI ..... lol.

    Got busted

Now that's funny right there, I don't care who you are.
  8. You've got to be kidding me .... lol. What do you want me to do go back through the whole thread and quote entire replies? For crying out loud do a little work for yourself. I think the messages were really quite clearly written. I didn't have any problem understanding them. If they went over your head, I can't do anything about that.
  9. I have no idea what things you are talking about.
  10. Aw geez .... I hope nothing falls off because of all that stuff! And I thought the biggest thing we had to worry about was forum cordiality. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John - We've definitely got to periodically issue that PSI award.
  11. PSI ...... great new term ..... I like it!
  12. I leave mine in the box (box of 5) and stuff the box in a front pocket of my blaze orange vest. Works pretty good. I'm talking about slugs since rifles have not yet been allowed in our county. I have a 100 yard rifle range up on the hill for bench-rest shooting the rifles. The rounds are stored in plastic ammo boxes that hold 50 rounds per box. They are packed carefully in a box on the front of my ATV along with bags and targets and eye and ear protection, and chronograph, etc., etc.
  13. Are you asking about a "flatlander pygmy"? I haven't seen too many of those.

    Hot....

Stay hydrated!!!!!! They say that's important on these kinds of days.
  15. Is it my imagination or is this site getting more and more combative lately? We have had a few knock down - dragged out insult and name-calling battles, and we have a guy that feels that the day has been totally wasted unless he has contradicted at least a half dozen posts or replies. Well, maybe a half-dozen is a bit of an exageration ..... lol. We've always had our little heated disagreements, but it seems that lately you can count on a new one everyday (kind of fun isn't it ..... lol). But really .... any theories as to what's going on? What's the problem? Heat getting to everyone? Maybe a bit of pre-season anxiety? Too many summer beverages? For me it is the fact that I am already seeing signs of summer ending and I don't think I will be able to cram in all the neat things that I was dreaming about last winter. I haven't even had time to practice with my bow. That's enough to make anyone irritable. Anyway, don't forget those famous words from that great American citizen Rodney King ..... "Can't we all just get along" .... .
  16. I will never deny anyone access to my property for tracking a wounded deer. In fact, if at all possible, I will lend a hand in the blood-trailing task. My only requirement is that I be contacted first. I have had this happen twice and in each case I drove the hunter back up the hill on my ATV and helped him follow the blood trail. In both cases, the deer circled back around and off my land, but that's another story.
  17. Actually I think I said they were "tolerant about this type of illegal activity". And don't tell me you did not interpret those messages as being tolerant of the poor little kid on his bike, ignoring posted signs.....lol. Now as I understand the term, that certainly sounds like the practice is being condoned (not my word but since you suggested it, it does fit). And as far as calling the cops immediately, I'm not so sure I don't agree with that reaction. If or when the day comes that you personally own property and experience vandalism or property damage due to trespassers (of all ages and appearances), I'm sure your attitude will change immediately. Until that time, I'm guess you along with a couple others will continue to think it is just some landowner making a big deal out of some minor law-breaking. I realize that it really doesn't seem all that important as long as you are not the one affected.
  18. A couple years ago we had the only direct experience with a bear. The result ...... two destroyed bird feeders, and the entire contents of a large trash can spread for about 150 yards up through the woods. The neighbor had a big old muddy paw print on the side of his house as well as the customary twisted up bird feeders. I started storing the trash inside the shed, and constructed an overhead cable arangement fom an upstairs window to a tree out in the back bank. Haven't seen any more signs of bears since then. I guess he was just passing through.
  19. Sure ... the people who would be most tolerant about this type of illegal activity are most likely the ones who don't have any land to be intolerant about. That makes it easy to support this kind of law-breaking (and even cheer it on). I'm certain that none of these supposed good natured tolerant types have encountered the problems that come along with all the different types of trespass and related activities that I and many others have outlined in this thread and others quite a few times already ..... for those that take the time to read them. And that tells me that they either don't own any land, or if they do they simply are totally unaware of what goes on there. However, I have yet to meet any landowner who has not had some (and often many) negative experiences with the kind of people that totally ignore trespass laws and posted signs. There's a certain negative mentality that goes along with the act of illegal, unpermitted trespass that reflects the capacity to do other more invasive and disrespectful activities. Those that have come up with shot-up or ripped down posted signs, cut fences, trash and litter, vandalism, missing treestands or game cameras, know exactly what I'm talking about. And yes sometimes it happens to be a result of innocent looking, chubby little kids .... lol. So even though there are a few here that would like to use this kid as a poster child for the sanctity of trespass, be aware that you really have no idea what these two were actually up to or what they are capable of doing given the right opportunities. I'm thinking it is a good thing that Fasteddie put his camera up high and out of the direct line of sight. Generally, it is this attitude of flagrant disrespect of landowners that caused the posted signs to be put up in the first place. How you react to trespassing most likely depends on whatever experiences one has had with this kind of situation and depends on which side of the fence you happen to be on.
  20. Lol ..... Was that "knee high by the Fourth of July"?
  21. I spend a lot of time up on the hill in the summer. Maybe I don't get all the parts of the picture, but I do pick up some useful observations here and there. And also, it's great exercise and just a great place to be.

    Got busted

Here in the Finger Lakes, we know about phosphorus and fertilizer run-off from homes and farmland watershed properties into the lakes, and what the results are. It is a problem that threatens to turn big portions of the lakes into a salad of aquatic vegetation that even a fish can't get through.

    Mountain Men

That guy and his script have pretty much ruined the show. The trumped up drama is getting to be a bit much. I mean, there have been at least a dozen situations where the guy in Alaska has broken down on his snowmobile with dire threats of his demise because he is stranded miles from the cabin. And yet there he stands basking in the light of a member of the camera crew who I'm sure have plenty of transportation available just off camera. And then there is the "disappearing" blowing and drifting trails back to the cabin with the obvious threat of his getting lost. Unfortuntely the camera guy mistakenly showed glimpses of fresh tracks just ahead of him. Just taking a look at how these guys get by in the wilderness (or even semi-wilderness) would have made a good show. But these constant phoney attempts at creating heavy drama really aren't going over that well with me. Maybe they found out the truth that that kind of life really is quite repetitive and boring and really doesn't make good TV without heavy doses of embellishmemnt. They tried too hard, and totally lost credibility.
  24. Yes, in terms of removing challenge, I don't think there is any argument that that is something crossbows do very nicely. But guns do the job a lot better.
  25. I am never surprised by the gall that people have. Trespassers come with different philosophies. The horseback riders see there impact as being a nice "green" kind of low impact activity. They apparently never see the kind of ankle-twisting, pock-marked mess that they leave behind in the spring or when they are traveling through wet areas. They don't really pay much attention to the drainage erosion that results from these horse-trenches as they go up the hill. They also don't seem to mind the fact that they have a stinky kind of litter left behind for someone to step into. Then you have the motorized trespassers that figure that no one can catch them even if they do get discovered. Then you have the hunters that are absolutely convinced that deer can read posted signs and always use posted land to hide on. It's kind of "the grass is greener on the other side" sort of a syndrome. Then there are the city people who are convinced that all landowners purchased and maintain land strictly for the convenience of whoever wants to use it. Funny how they don't feel that way about their little 1/2 acre city lots. And finally, there are the vandals who enter private property for the sole purpose of destroying and/or stealing things. They welcome posted signs because it tells them where the "stuff" is located. If you live long enough on any particular piece of land, you will encounter all of these and each one of them will despise you for owning something that they do not. And each kind of trespasser will feel some sort of twisted entitlement to the use of your property and damn few of them will ever darken your doorstep asking for permission to enter your land. Why bother .....eh? Yes, it's weird, but over the years I have discovered that it's just the nature of humans and if you own property, there are plenty of people who want to help themselves to it. And they will resent the hell out of your unwillingness to simply let them over-run it as they please.
