And many say Bucks dont get that big in NY. Yeah WOW
-
In my line of work po-po stands for power off and power on. Why does every thread get so off topic so quick on here? Too hard to follow any of them these days.
-
Personally I would skip the morning sit and spend the time searching. What happens if another buck shows up that is bad ass and you arrow it then find the other buck after you search? Fubar'd at that point. Search until your confident in it being a loss or you find it, then hunt again. But thats just my opinion. As far as rain goes if its raining at a good rate I will pass any shot on any deer, and yes Im am confident in my shooting, dont take crap shots or even semi iffy ones either. There is too many uncontrollable variables that can take place from the moment you release an arrow to have no blood to track after the shot. Im not judging either for the record just giving my personal opinion on bowhunting and rain. Been in those shoes and hope to never be in them again. Good luck and hope you recover the buck.

I have called the tips hotline several times a few years ago and still waiting on the return phone calls. Sad thing is the regional office is about 3 miles from my house. Next time I will just drive there I guess.
-
What do you mean he has to "load" his rest? Never heard this before. My preference is a drop away. Why because I just do and could care less what anyone else uses especially if they are happy with it and have good results. Lifes to short to banter over a arrow rest.

The arms and legs on that thing are like toothpics. I think I would stay the hell away from that stand too. LMAO

Not only non resident but no second chance either. High first, zero second and 1000 permits leftover.

That dude is off his rocker, off his meds or just plain out of his mind. -
Snow moved out and heavy rain still. Days and Days and Days of rain. This is old.
-
Snowing pretty good here. I will take this over all the damn rain we have had for months straight. Every 1 sunny day there has been 6 rainy ones all summer and fall.
-
That is common for popple to do that. I have a few just like that that died on the stump and are rotting out while standing. Almost identical to your picture as well. They usually fall over before they get to this stage but some dont and this is the result.
-
So the deer dont eat and drink because its warm out? Do they starve themsleves all summer? They move, maybe not as much but they are moving. Up here in the northern zone our bow season has started in the warm weather for years and years and I still see deer actively moving in warm conditions. Find some water sources is always a good warm hunting strategy as well.

Next time I run into a Mountain Lion Grow I will ask it.

One of New York's Finer Departments at Work
wdswtr replied to phade's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Absolutely the opposite, It was a contract, not an hourly job, you make an annual bid. The place cost me money when they pulled stupid antics like that. Instead of getting the job done I had extra travel, extra wasted time that could have been used to service time and material accounts or other contracts. Antics like that have a major trickle down effect. It effected me and any customer that need my service, imagine how many others in that week it effected and most of all who pays for it in the end to cover operating cost on frivolous spending like that. -

I had a few private contracts with some union companys and I personally seen things and had to do things that made me sick. Just for an example I will give you detail of one such instance. I was called in to fix a large printing press for at the time Niagara Mohawk. In this particular instance they had several jobs that were a rush and had to get out on monday. Now mind you it was about 2 days of printing. Tuesday I go in trouble shoot the machine, order parts for over night early am delivery per the companys request. Wednesday I show up when parts where due to arrive. After a couple hours of waiting on parts while I was tearing the machine down ready to replace the bad parts I questioned where they were. I track the shipment and find out it was delivered. But the guy who made rounds through the building to drop off deliveries to each department had called in sick. I had zero security access to the loading dock to retrieve them myself. SO thursday rolls around and I return nice and early to install parts. I get all the parts in the machine and request paper to test print to fine tune. Yep the warehouse guy who gets all the paper and supplies called in sick. Friday I show back up and test print and fine tune the printer. By mid day I release the press back to the operator. Mind you the operator sat in a chair tuesday, wednesday, thursday and half a day friday drinking coffee, reading the newspaper and any magazine he could scrounge up all while making close to 40 bucks an hour. SInce the jobs where due monday all he could do was brag to me how he had to work the weekend pulling time and a half. What is baffling is the only reason I got that contract was being low bidder on it yet they waste more money than any one of us can fathom. Every month when I look at my electric bill I cant help but shake my head and get pissed. So how is Unions good for us cause all I know is that stupid antics just like that cost me and everyone else more money while that press operator reaped all the benefits and was happier than a pig in crap. Makes me sick. -
I think he made it clear he doesnt like people who catch fish just to brag about it. lmao

Butt covering double speak? What exactly am I covering up? The intention of my first reply was to show you how it feels to attack someones methods of how they spend there time with passion I might ad in the great outdoors. Its just simple as that, no distortion what so ever just plain laying it out there for you to show how it feels to be on the other side of the thread. If me defending what so many use as a source of happiness in this messed up world from one guy bashing technology and a simple thing as a trail camera says much about me then I will take that as a compliment. Oh and SHAME ON YOU with the multiple negative young guy comments!

I have hunted mountain lions out west. Yes they are elusive to an extent, until you talk to any cattle farmer that is. How is it that out west the fields full of cattle are easy pickings yet in NY the cattle all fenced up seem to be off limits to these elusive creatures? I find it rather hard to believe if they are here there is no farmers reporting cattle deaths due to mountain lions. These creatures eat fresh kill, in a short time they no longer will feed off an old kill and go after a live food source. At least that is how it is out west. Maybe they are holed up with with resident squatches and together they are twice as elusive and thats why No one with credibility has proof. But hey if I read it on the internet it has to be the truth.

I dont care who you are thats funny right there! -
This just baffles me a bit, you attacked the majority of members about how you have a dislike for someone using technology like a trail cam as a thread topic, No one came out and attacked your traditional values until you attacked everyone else. If you cant handle the response why post the thread to begin with? There is absolutely nothing wrong with traditions and personal values in any aspect of life. However if you choose to attack others expect to be replied to or just choose not to take a stance against what others enjoy. I see no one starting a thread bashing a guy for not using trail cams or modern archery or did I miss those post?

Nice! Did you use a tree limb, horse tail hair for fishing line and a wooden carved hook? Or did you use one of those technically advanced things called a fishing pole, reel and even maybe some flourocarbon fishing line? There had to be some young guys around there using those things.
-
Biz your saying a savage is a cheap gun? Apparently you have never shot one. I know people searching to find savage 110 30.06 rifles due to there accuracy and accuracy alone. Or do you just like digging holes all the time?
-
How many acres? If you took your tax papers to prove land ownership you should of recieved a landowners permit if you have enough acreage. I believe its at least 50 acres.

Must be poor Early didnt see any deer! Poor Poor Early! All those young hunters out there robbing the woods of your deer must really drive you to the brink of whining on the internet about it, but since your a better man than that Im glad you restrain from doing so.
