Yes and no. Its a very timely process Im finding out. However the new building is designed to meet all the state and federal inspection requirements to be certified to move forward. State certification is the easy one. Its odd though you take a state like Michigan with open cottage laws and they could produce these same products and sell them without certification or inspection. Which is why I am baffled about the Federal level of all this, apparently whats good for one state sure isnt for another. I was unable to finish the kitchen yet. Still need to put a lot of stainless steel in place to make it completely washdown. Being certified to produce syrup is not bad at all and really is just common sense sanitary practices. Now add another ingredient for a new product makes it a whole new ballgame. Got to love NY. But Im getting there. The part that makes this easier on the wallet is making stainless steel maple syrup equipment for part of my living. Just for an example my new 3x12 evaporator with the gasification arch could of easily cost me close to 20 grand. My material cost from the ground up is under 2 grand minus my 100's hours of labor to build it. I went from 40 gallons per hour evaporation to around 125 gallons per hour. The finishing equipment I need to make these specialty products will all be made myself saving me a lot of money and the best part is I can design around my needs and not having to use a cookie cutter set of equipment. Been a long road but a very fun one as well.

So you know what type of feeder every Deer Farm in Ohio uses? Is it at all possible that some farmers may be aware of this phenominom and dont use them? Im not saying the thing is free range or high fence by any means, but sorry a couple pictures on the internet sure as heck doesnt even come close to determining where this buck comes from. Everyone not directly involved can take all the wild guesses they want, bottom line its still just a guess.
-
Sure do. His story he told lasted what? 2 days before he was busted. Pathetic at best.

These cougar threads are classic. The end results always being the same. LOL

Your in trouble now Papist. That rig is where it all starts. Next thing you know you will be driving down the road, looking at every maple tree and thinking about drilling a hole in them. Its crazy how addictive making syrup is for a lot of people. Sure is a great way to spend a spring after a long winter. Friends, family a lifetime of memories. Good luck!

You brought up if it was a NY buck. The class and quantity of bucks in Ohio vs NY is unreal. Could you imagine if OB was in NY with his bold claims of all those big bucks hes killed. Funny how if you took the big bad hunter out of the big bad hunting area and stuck the guy in NY how many would of screamed High Fence Hunter right from the start. I have a relative who is in college in Ohio. Born and raised right here, first day out bowhunting in Ohio kills a 13 point. The family here at home is drueling over his deer yet his buddies who live in Ohio says that just a normal Ohio buck. I dont think hes going to come home and find deer hunting here much fun anymore lol.

LOL you were quoting while I was editing. Nothing wrong with being a professional at something, its how you proceed with that title is a different story. Someone should tell these Proffessional fakes or liars that it isnt a good profession to get into though lmao. I agree though its cool to want to be a part of a good story even if its thats just reading it on the internet. But I wouldnt personally get sucked into being a "quiver sniffer" ( I love that quote ) without personal confirmation of truth and fact about somebody I know nothing about other than what they type on a keyboard lol.
-
Edit as i read this wrong. A wannabe in there own minds. I honestly believe as I know a couple guys from race car drivers, "professional" fisherman and a mechanic whos stories and how they proceed to be better than others make stuff up cause they think it empowers them or something. Its sad but if they live in there fantasy long enough I think they start to believe its true. I guess I would say there is a bit of wanting to be the best at something in all of us. Just some take it over the top.

And its not even a world record breaker after all that BS about OG and OB lmfao. If its a legit FR and not a HF buck its going to have junk all over it this year. Which means? OG isnt going to break the World Record. Pathetic what some will do for fame and fortune and the length of lies played out. I for one wouldnt back any one of those guys word without laying my own eyes on it. Just because someone has there own online video segements or been on the cover of NAW, has some pictures of big deer, has articles written about them, preaches there religion, yada yada yada really doesnt mean squat when it comes to backing up what they claim. These guys just like Chad Tefft proves that for us. Someone watched too many re-runs of Lee and Tiffany. Where I come from we call these guys wannabes.

I think I'm in trouble...

There was some weird mounts like that in my grandfathers farm from when I was a kid, he passed away when I was very young and I dont recall what ever became of them I just know they disappeared. I do remember however someone came out to look at them and said not to handle them due to some pretty nasty chemicals that was used in taxidermy practices way back when. -
Bayliners certainly are not on top of the list of manufacturers however there are a ton of them on the water. I had a 24 foot bayliner that served me well for fishing on the big O many many years and the guy I sold it too still has it in a slip every year. Its 20 years old now. I by no means am a gentile boat owner either. I fished a lot of tournaments out of it for years in some real bad weather. A few times being out on the lake when a storm rolled in and up to 10 footers. Basically I pounded the living snot out of that boat and it never sank. Close but still floats lol. If you are a part time boater and find a solid bayliner I wouldnt be scared to purchase one again. If you plan on being on the water 24/7 a more quality comfortable boat would be a better choice. I dont care what brand you own your gonna have an open wallet policy anyhow. Im on my 4th boat now and its the smallest and most simple fishing boat I have owned. 17 foot bass boat all aluminum Merc outboard no stringers to rot, no transoms to rot etc and there is always always something that still need upgrading or replacing. Batteries, tuneups, screwed up graph, rod holder over the side, trailer tires, bunk carpets worn out, bilge pump clogged or fried during a heavy rainstorm, it just never ends no matter what size boat or brand, some just are a couple more dollars to maintain than others.

Geesh WNYbuckhunter looks like nyantler just schooled you lmao. -
Thanks Dinsdale, Im just going to lick my wounds and add another 1000 taps this year. Although we did end up with a freeze overnight, about 10 degrees lower than was being called for so I woke up with a little hope left in me we can get through the warm spell. Doc you are absolutely correct its a delicacy or what the industry calls a luxury sweetener. However overseas and maple products especially maple sugar is starting to explode and replacing white sugar on many tables. I havent researched the details as to why the sudden big interest but been told white sugar is becoming somewhat pricy and difficult to purchase overseas. Its an absolute labor of love, the seasons labor starts for larger producers the day we pull taps and ends the day we pull taps the following year. Most think its a 6 week job, hardly the reality in what goes into it.
-
Being a 3rd generation producer I am not pleased to say this has been the worse maple season I have ever experienced. Usually pulling taps and starting the cleanup process and prepping for next year, but nope still hoping we have a season yet lol. Less than 1 weeks production thus far and made 80 gallons to date. Not even close to the 400 I would of settled with being happy about. I think I have wore out the saying "theres always next year". I am hoping the buds dont show and the peepers stay quiet to get the cold snap thats coming next week. No way I can fill even a partial of orders at this point. Only a couple states and very specific parts of them have reported good numbers, Most all producers are saying the season is a bust including Canada who produces 80% of the worlds crop. Only good thing is prices should increase per pound for bulk with strategic reserve being limited. So the plan double taps again for next year lol. It never ends with expansions.

LMAO the funny part of your post is Its more understandable than anything I have read in this whole thread. -
Dont forget its another open house maple weekend. Most all should have sap to boil this time around. If your bored take a drive out to one of your local maple producers.

Berretta best 20 gauge bird gun I have and will ever own. That is if you truly dont have a budget or around 3k.

Its impossible to take too much. I run high vac for example and the amount of sap taken is small in comparison to what it produces. There has been years of studies done on this subject. There are times however when you could add additional stress to a tree when tapping if the tree is already stressed, such as loss of limbs due to ice damage and over tapping them for several years. The overtapping is not from taking too much sap but from causing too much scarring inside the tree for lack of better terms. Think of it like this, when you cut yourself it leaves a scar behind it does the same thing to a tree but internally in the sap column. The area around the tap hole is now unable to pass sap up the tree in that area, not a problem unless you have tapped a complete band around the tree cutting of its ability to pass the sap to the branches. This is why the 2 tap max is the rule of thumb theses days. Doing so will allow the tree to be able to handle long term tapping. Young trees add girth and grow new wood over these old tap holes after several years, the older trees that there further grow rates are very small will not be growing new wood around these tap hole any time soon, therefore it narrows your tapping band around the tree so you have to be careful not to place taps in the wrong spots cutting off the sap flow to the branches and killing the tree. You guys interested in making maple syrup can always get lots of information and ask lots of questions on a Maple Forum that I am one of several founding members that developed it a few years ago. http://sugarbush.info/forums/

10 inches is the new norm using 5/16 taps, One tap per tree though. Good rule of thumb to tap buy is if you can hug the tree and touch hands its a single tap tree, if you cant touch your hands its a two tap tree. Old school was to put a tap every 12 inches, and thanks to lots of research that has been done from various universities that is a bad thing as you will at some point run out of good tap wood. I still see some hang 4 to 6 buckets or taps in a tree. Not good. Any how one section of woods all tapped in on vac and another one almost done. Pulled a lowsy 25 gallons per 100 taps in today, just enough to flush the lines and that is about it. Snow is so deep it takes all day to dig out mainlines and lateral lines and can only manage about 200 taps put in a day. Very tiring.

Indeed they are. Just be aware that most will be just boiling straight water due to the weather and no sap. There has been a bit of a panick from some to supply there shelves for syrup sales since its such a late start to the season. Still very enjoyable to attend, lots are having pancake breakfasts as well, lots of stuff to taste like maple sugar, sugar on snow, maple suckers, maple mustards, maple BBQ sauces, Maple cotton candy, Maple snow cones, Maple candy, a whole bunch more and of course Pure Maple Syrup. If you get to one making lunches by chance ask if they have any maple sap dogs. Your in for a real treat if they do! Unfortunately for me I will not be open as there is no sap and I have been sold out of syrup for a couple months. Taps are going in tomorrow though. We are usually nearing the end of the season this time of year. A lot of worried sugarmakers out there right now including me.

Here is a link for your viewing pleasure. Its actually better for you than you might think. There is also studies that have been done relating Pure Maple Syrup as a benefit to diabetics as well. http://www.internationalmaplesyrupinstitute.com/projects.html

Our camp is on a seasonal road, By the time its snowed in the hunting season is over anyhow, but when we do go there during the off season to check on things we either ride snowmobiles in or the wheelers. However sometimes the locals keep driving the seasonal road all winter and its hard packed so we can drive on it as well. I get enough snow here at home so I dont feel the need very often to go to camp to look at more snow anyways.

I think the media is the largest problem with the bs twisted versions of the truth behind a story. Im afarid half the crap they come up with isnt a story unless it has there own twist to it. I see and hear it daily and so do all of you. Its a matter of realizing most often news and page filler bs is just that bs. How does anyone know but the people involved first hand the actual truth behind this story? Do you know if he was warned, or if it was some other behavior that got him in trouble while he was wearing this tshirt and someone twisted the hell out of the truth. Seems to me we all live in a very gullible society these days and read to far into the nonsense the media comes up with. Just today I got emailed, texted and pm'd from several people that on the news and in the paper A co-op sugarhouse in the north country burnt down and was a total loss. Yet the 15 year veteran sugamaker who was boiling put the arch fire out with his fire extinguishers he had in the sugarhouse. It was a matter of rebricking the arch from tearing them out to get the fuel oil cleaned up. Only thing that was lost was 300 gallons of sap. Point is the media is off there rocker and I would guess 90% of what they spew is sewage and twisted versions of the truth. You honestly think in this sue happy society we live in people would allow such things like this to happen so regularly? I doubt it very much. However I agree to an extent school isnt meant to be a walking billboard, my kids alone have been heckled for wearing anything but Nike shoes or heckled for wearing an Addidas t shirt. I can very easily see regardless of my beliefs how one walking billboard add on a kid offends another. I have nephews that have been sent home with a warning slip that the Budweiser Nascar shirt is against school policy. Did this kid get sent home with a warning slip? Did he give it to his parents? Did he or his parents boycott and send him back to school with it on? Not much difference than my daughters work policy states no visible body piercing other than in your ear and limited to x amount and size. Wear it and your warned wear it again and your written up wear it one more time and your fired. She doesnt have those extra piercings but anyhow its a policy regardless. Some are over the top some are not. Play the game face the consequences. What the hell happened to this country anyhow that took us down this path of stupidity, I put a good chunck of the blame on the media and the sewage they come up with. -
First he stops with a trail right to his left. Second you can see where he stops the second time after creeping closer to the moose someone else has already driven off to the side of the trail with a snowmobile. So the snows not too deep and he had an alternative trail to take right from the start. He pushed his luck to far with his inability to respect the wildlife in there home. My opinion, what a piece of crap. You ever see a whitetail dispatched with a glock? It aint pretty let alone a moose, that moose had to suffer for some time after words.
-
No not really lmao. I guess he has his 1 in 3 year win under his belt, so hes good for awhile. What I find really even more stupid about Nascar is that sealed him in the chase. What a stupid stupid stupid race format they keep coming up with. That will be his only win for the season, many others will outrace him like year after year after year, many others will have better, more consistent season, he could wreck every race from here till the chase but hey hes in it. How stupid is that?
