Is there large piles of scat on the ground? I have several pines like this around home and the porcupines are doing it. Sat there and watched them once last year in my stand. Kept me occupied to say the least.

Thanks guys! Sorry I robbed this thread. Back to the regular scheduled program lol

Looks like the Columbus Day Youth season is on!
wdswtr replied to Buckstopshere's topic in Deer Hunting
Okay who revived this one!!!!!!! Or is this round 13? -
Yeah its pretty sad watching them. 2 nights ago I watched this "PRO" hunter bragging his head off over rage broadheads after he shot a buck clearly in the guts and not front of the guts but just in front of the hind legs. Arrow didnt pass through and was sticking out the guts on the other side. All fist pumping and bragging about it being a perfect shot and only a rage could make that shot fatal. The "PRO" gets out of his blind within minutes and walks up to the buck that ran "30" yards and dropped dead. Yep sure it did. I couldnt believe he did not get a gut pass through either. hit no bone what so ever. Clear as day even in the replay a paunch shot. Sad what they preach on TV now days.

Well hes not my taxidermist. Yes the skull will shrink but not being intact what is to stop the seam causing distortion? With it fully intact it will hold its true shape. Like I said curious more than anything.
-
Would the seam that runs up the center of the skull not possible distort the rack? Meaning it could shrink and spread the rack wider or make it narrower. Which would effect the true score of the rack. I was told from a taxidermist that If I was get a deer mounted that I wanted officially scored there would be a delay in getting it back as he could not cut the skull plate until after the drying period. Just curious what is correct. On another note I hope this is a legit buck, amazing deer if it was wild.

Somewhere deep in the woods... NOT!

From DEC website. Tried to find a population map of them but no such luck. In New York State, fisher can be found throughout approximately 26,000 square miles of forested habitat within the northern, eastern and southeastern parts of the state. -
NYAntler question for you. I thought that the skull had to be intact to make an official score? If so how can it be scored after the drying period since the skull cap was cut off?

Dont know about your area but they are very abundant here along the salmon river. I would think not that rare at all. Hardly ever see them out in the wild especially during the day here but come trapping season its not hard to hit a quota at all in a short time. -
GREAT POST. Jetmec the problem lies in the way you addressed your pro AR stance. You come with respect you get respect. You act like a blantant ass you are treated like a blantant ass. Simple concept try it out sometime!

Where is your cell and compass guys?

Yeah that is a fisher. They get suprisingly large. Lots of bushy hair too. I have trapped many fishers over the years and they get big and nasty. Hell there main diet is porcupine if that says anything. -
Always test all your hunting arrows. Every dozen I ever owned there is always one that flys different than the rest. Just shooting them with filed tips will show you if one is off compared to the others. Then I test them with a broadhead later on. Why take the chance of an erratic arrow flight and miss an oportunity on a deer of your dreams. Glad you found the problem before the season started and go tit taken care of.

I dont see how it is the site at all. The fibers are not breaking any where near contact with the site or metal is. They are about 6 inches long and end up slipping into a rubber tube to protect them. They either break in that tube or between the tube and site pins. And now that I just thought about it is a trophy extreme sight and I just ordered the original fibers again damn it. It seems they dry rot and start to break. The other odd thing is it is never the green one, I think that one is still the original, Always the red, yellow or orange ones.

Sort of funny how it plays out sometimes. The deer is not actually ducking the arrow, yet its dropping into a position to take off on a run very quickly. Just seems to look like they are ducking on purpose knowing that an arrow is coming at them. I personally feel it is more common on spooky deer that are on alert. Pay attention to the body language of the deer and you can pick up on some signs on how comfortable the deer is before the shot. They just hear an odd noise, slight movement etc and spook. One thing I learned along time ago is this was common when a deer was looking towards me when I shot. Cause me many misses. I had a guy preach to me once that all the deer in the area I hunt drop when you shoot, will happen everytime he said. I was younger and newer at bowhunting way back then so I took his bad advice and aimed lower. I remember the first deer I shot there. It dropped and the shot was good. Then the next one never dropped and yep you got it, spined him. Ever since I paid more attention try to read the deer. No one said this sport was easy. alot happens all at once and sometimes in seconds that deer pops out, nerves go haywire. But patience is good practice I think. Not always is the first shot the best shot either. I stoppped the hurry up and shoot scenario and slowed down payed attention to how the deer acts and then decide on the when to pull the trigger. Doesnt always play out right but success rates for me anyways has gone up.

I have tried the original brand, whatever that may be that came with the site, Reordered from them once, then truglow fiber optics. So far those all absolutely suck. Just ordered Extreme brand from Bass Pro so we will see. Im just wondering if this is common pace for the thinner .19 thickness?

Sometimes its so confusing the way the write these up. Never once did I catch onto that little one excerpt. Learn something every day.. Thanks! Antlered Deer Only Exceptions: Antlered or Antlerless During the regular season in Westchester Co. and during any season in Suffolk Co. In Areas restricted to longbow hunting only During late season (with bow or muzzleloading privilege) September 27-30, in the Northern Zone with previous season's unused tag and bow privilege.
-
First I ever heard of this. Are you sure about that?
-
Any one else have problems with fiber optics in their .19 pins? Every year I have to replace the fiber. They crack and break. I can be just sitting in stand and when I got up there the fibers are fine and then one is broke. Not any where near points of contact but in the middle of the fibers. Im out of fibers and man they are not easy to come by. Had to order them last time. I really like the smaller pins and dont want to switch to a thicker fiber optic. Drives me nuts knowing mine break. I even replaced some before storing bow and when I picked it up this summer one was broke in the middle. Frustrating.

Okay I have a legit question for you. You are pro AR you preach this quite a bit. Heres where Im stumped. Please enlighten me on this one. You are upset about having to throw young small fish back and think you should keep whatever you want by the sounds of it as this is the second time you brought this up. You obviously do not like the regulations on the size and age of fish that are in place right? Well that very same feeling you have towards you disagreeing with these regulations because you cant keep what you want to keep is the exact same thing alot of hunters are feeling about your Pro AR stance and more regulations that are not wanted and losing the choice to harvest the deer they want that is legal. I find this quite odd. How do you think you make the catch and release guys and tournament fishing guys feels when you make such remarks? I tournament fished for a statewide organization for a few years and I can tell you it was common place for your feelings about AR, but in a fishery point of view. So I say trade shoes here for a moment and the way you feel about those fish and you not being able to capitalize on any one you want is exactly the same way alot of hunters feel about your stance on AR. Give it some thought you might see where and why this subject is so passionate on both sides.

So lets see between your two member names you have a grand total of 39 post and out of 39 post here is 14 quotes from you. Seems to me between some of them telling us what to shoot is more than an opinion and then theres the disrespectful crap towards fellow hunter. Yeah its a sure great start to getting your "opinion" out there and respected. You are doing a great job keep up the great work on preaching pro AR. I cant tell you if Im for it or against it. But I can tell you that if its people who spew crap like this that are for it then it sure is a strike against the pro side for me to side with such crap coming from a pro ar's mouth thats for certain. Your stance can not be respected with the garbage you post. I would say sorry but Im not the one whos strategy to get there "opinion" across with utmost disrespect towards fellow hunters.
-
Wait Jetmec................ Its ok for you to tell us what we should be shooting but its not okay for us to tell you what you should be shooting? Guess what too bad for you! I have every right to shoot any legal deer I damn well see fit, just as you do also! No one is preaching to take that away from you on here so sure the hell dont preach to take that right away from me.

Kind of odd Jetmec and PETERBFLY have alot in common. Lets see jet/fly joined on same day and have same number of post. Is this one of those same guy two member name deals to troll his own points twice with two different names? If Im wrong sorry about that but we have seen this game more than once on here.
