God bless these poor people who were shot and or killed. I got into a short argument about AK 47's with a worker over this. That gun did not kill them the jerk using it did. Will we ban cars if he ran over a crowd of people? Why don't they ban beer and booze, it causes more deaths on the road than guns do. Here we go with more gov. control... This will help that dam UN ban. ARG... Crazy jerk idiot shooter, give him a cell with bubba before they zap him! Better yet let the families of the victims spend a few days in a cell with him. No electricity needed, new green way of justice family style.

Promise me one thing Bubba... If I get shot and killed make sure that idiot gets a cell with your gay twin in prison...

I like how they wanted him to say it was BO that caused the accident or lack thier of and then did not ask him to testify when that was not the case. I agree with the statement that not everyone is made out to be a hunter. But NYS does not believe that. I personaly feel the safety course should be harder and made so IF YOU ARE a idiot you will have a hard time getting a licence to hunt. I just feel like NYS makes it impossible to fail the course wich is BS IMO. Anything for more revenue, who cares if some idiot hunter gets killed because of it, they do not like hunters anyway so they could care less if one is killed by another, IMO. Wonder if they decieded to exclude this guy who was wearing BO to make the 5% list and how many more things are excluded from our "stats" to get a point across. The thing that saves more people every year is common sense. Unfortunatly not everyone has this... BO will help for idiots who should not be in the woods and shoot before they know what they are shooting at. I guese NYS thinks thier are more idiots down south than up North, I think I agree considering the city is filled with them. Sucks that idiots can have drivers license because they travel up north too. Guy tells me a story about him and his brother hunting in one of our state parks. He says the bear was so close to his brother he could hear him breathing yet was afraid to turn around and confront the bear. I do not know about any of you but if a bear is a few feet behind me and I have a gun you can be dam sure I am going to turn around and see WT heck is going on, not this guy. Even if I did not have a gun... Fear, ignorance of the woods and complacancy I would argue cause more accidents than anything we wear will ever protect us... Wear BO so the other idiot in your area does not shoot you, make it mandatory around any area of woods for anyone during any hunting season, please help save us from our selves NYS we need more government control. No smoking while driving, no radio on while driving, no TV, computer, phone or GPS device they distract too much and can cause a accident... No smoking in your house or candles permited they can cause a fire. No drinking water or any other liquid while driving, you could spill and cause a accident. ETC ETC ETC save us NYS from ourselves we need you more than ever... BLa bla bla OK time for lunch...

I do not want to get into another argument about draw length etc. BUT I went from a 28 1/2 inch draw on my MQ1 with no D-loop and a string release. Never had a problem with shooting or accuracy... No problems with knock pinch... My anchor point was at the corner of my mouth. Then I went to a helium 28" with a D-loop and it change the length of the draw/anchor point due to a extra 1/4 on the bow string and the d-loop added another 1/2 inch. This resulted an anchor point that is now at the back of my jaw bone under my ear. I still shoot good with both bow's yet I feel a little overdrawn with the d-loop and extra 1/4 inch on the string draw. Best thing I can tell you is to try shooting at the archery dealer you are going to buy your bow from, this way if anything does not feel right they can adjust the length of the string or what ever to make it feel proper. As long as speed is not a concern do not worry about a few fps it will not make a dif when shooting at prey unless you plan on shooting further than 50 + yards which is not advisable IMO due to prey jumping the string, yet you can do it if they are sleeping or in a stationary spot where they can not jump like when lying down... Other option at long distance to prevent this is using a call when shooting to disguese the string release, yet I have not tried this yet... D-loop does not make the bow slower, unless you go to a lower draw length but it will still be faster than anything you have shot before so loosing a few fps on a 270-340 fps bow is irrelevant. I went to a heavyer arrow due to arrow wobble and lost a few fps yet I still do not notice it untile I shoot past 55-65 yards... Note if you go with a lower draw length you can shorten your arrows slightly to get back a few fps if you are that concerned. Most importian thing is feel, even though I felt off a little bit with the new bow, I like it. After shooting for a week I found my sweet spot for my anchor point. At the back of my jaw bone is perfect for the new bow and I have become comfortable with it. Just feels strange when I pick up my old mq1 as a spare and shoot with my corner mouth release position. Now the MQ1 feels like it is under drawn... As long as it feels right you will be happy. Good luck with it!!! I shoot at suffolk archers often, we have tournaments every weekend. Anyone who wants to come and shoot at 3d targets with me is more than welcome!!!

Good question, might be because it's only bow in Westchester but that should not matter. Find a local archery or hunting store and ask them if they are providing one, if not you should be able to find something on the DEC web site may be? Ahh Brewster was fun to hunt...

Hope I find some of them this year!!!
-
Dam, those western farm area's produce big racked deer!!!
-
Welcome aboard, great bunch here, enjoy.

HUGE public land bucks- wont tell ya where though ;)
NFA-ADK replied to TheTruth2's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Nice pic's good luck with getting one of them!!! Nice deer, thanks for sharing and welcome aboard! Not asking for location but what part of the state are you in, Catskills, West, ADK? You can be general to hide your bucks locations... -
"In 1991, DEC reviewed hunting-injury reports and concluded that most hunting injuries were associated with violations of basic firearms safety rules." I wonder what percentage of people using BO cause these accidents... This poor guy was shot wearing BO but that did not make a dif. I guese upstate or downstate is relative, people in the Hamptons consider everything west of the canal the city yet the traffic in the hamptons is worse than any place I live in huntington. Arg I should have moved upstate when I had the chance... This way I could say Albany like SteveB.

If I get them and set them up they would be in the woods from the beggining of bow season untile I was able to get back for rifle season, about 5 weeks. I have a few area's that are populated with doe yet the bucks seem to be at higher elevation untile the rut starts. The fact that thier are so few deer makes it hard to find good places to set them up. I have a few choke points I like but I am not sure I want to disturb those area's with a cam. I might see if the boys at camp want to chip in on a few, if they are willing I will set up 4-8 in various area's after doing some self testing down here to verify they work good. I do not get to scout as much as I would like and this would be a big help in locating doe which I like to hang around during rifle season peak rut time as they are easyer to find than a lone buck.

I am not getting into another BO argument or the getting shot in the city vs hunting. PS: I do not live in the city and as a matter of fact I HATE the city!!!

I guese getting shot at two years in a row has cause me to become a safety advocate even more than I was before. And that fact leads me to believe hunting is risky... And I thought hunting up North was SAFER... None of these thing mentioned will ever stop me from hunting, as long as I am able, I will hunt as long as I live... It just pisses me off when some one dies in NYS while hunting and NYS does not include him in our safety statistics just to make us tie for 1st with safety in other states. It is missleading the public that our state is the safest when the facts show otherwise...

IF you solo moutian climb your risk of death is high. And the risk is know by that person, this is why it is safer to go with a partner while doing this activity. Same with winter hiking, it's safer with a buddy. Without your risk is much higher and usually known by the participant. If you ride a bike or walk or get into a accident with a truck and die it does not matter if you were participating in a sport that is called an accident with a vehecle and most of those types of accidents that do involve a pedestrian can be fatal when higher speeds are involved. It does not matter what you were doing at the time, you could be selling lemonaid. If you like to sky dive which is fun, you have a high risk of death. IF you wake up in the morning you have a chance of dying that day, life is risky, yet to say hunting is safe... May be the shots fired over my head last year have something to do with it... O wait that should never happen in NY. Never mind, Hunting is the safest thing you can do, no risk involved go for it... EXCEPT FOR THIS ONE GUY, O wait he was not the only one in NY killed last year. SOME ONE Please get some stats up here...j/k My point is that hunting has some high risk in it. And guese what other sports that have high risk of death are known by the participants, jumping out of a plane is one of them... DO you think that jumping out of a plan is safer than hunting? Sure, come to the southern zone with NO BO and tell me it is safe, sure it is, no risk involved so why the need and arguments for BO then? Because it is not safe by any means, besides getting shot, lost, hurt or attacted, any number of things can happen and that is what make hunting so much fun... 10 weeks till opening of bow!!!! lets go hunting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never said hunting was the only sport where death was a possiblitly... SO please do not put words in my mouth. O boy I can see the stats coming... I played football, basketball, lacross, baseball, ice hockey, wrestling, karate and a few other sports, guese what not one person died while I played all those sports and NOT ONE PERSON WAS MAIMED FOR LIFE EVER. You might want to re-read my post, I did not say you can not die in other sports, it is just not a realistic possiblitly for the most part and if it was the sport would change to make it safer... EX: NASCAR has new safety straps for the neck due to a death... Hunting is a dangerous pastime. Besides climbing trees with a stand, we climb moutians, cliffs, ledges, and steep ravines. We carry a loaded weapon, and are subseptible to heart attack/over exhertion, weather and the animals. You may think hunting is safe yet it is not, depite the fact that you might wear BO and take all the precations that still does not mean you are safe from some idiot, a mother bear or moose, loose gravel on a steep cliff, or injury from a fall to name just a few. NYS would like to make it seem like it's all fun and games and for the most part hunting is, yet to say thier is no danger and you do not have to worry about some things is BS. IF you think hunting is so safe let me take you out WITH OUT BO in the southern zone for a few days, bet you change your mind then. If that is not good enough I will invite you up to the ADK for 1 of 3 weeks I am going hunting. If those moutians and the 45 plus min ride on a dirt road do not scare you great, just do not get lost like so many people do every year and never get out alive, just another thing to worry about, GETTING LOST... In so far as not hunting from a stand, I have not in over 7 years so that would not be a bid deal but that does not mean I will not this year. If I was that paranoid of stand hunting I would not do it. But just because you are not in a stand does not mean you can not get hurt just as easy by a fall off a legde, cliff, or just a bad area that twists your anckles. PS: IF hunting was so safe we would NOT NEED BO, yea try getting some stats for that one... O BOY

Name one sport where getting shot or killed by another person is a reality...
-
He should get life, he took some one's and now he only gets 4 years max, pathetic. He should get at least 20 as the minimum. The family he affected will never get thier dad, husband, son or brother back. When the hunters education course is taught, they can introduce manslaughter into the class, but O WAIT we cant do that that would mean that hunting is dangerous... That is forbiden to say hunting is a dangerous endevour... We might not get more people involved... No other sport has death as a possibility. Not that you can't die playing a sport, yet hunting is the only sport where some one getting shot is a realistic part of the equation. God bless this poor guy that was killed and his family. And screw the NYS safest BS club because this guy was not incuded, and people wonder why stats do not mean shit to me... Sorry but this subject gets my blood pumping...

That is one of my biggest fears Dave is spooking off a nice buck. Seeing some of the bucks run in video and pic's make me second guese setting them up where I hunt. The only thing I can think of to minimize the bad reactions to the camera's is to get them mounted up high so as not to disturb the deer as much. I feel it would make them harder to steel too... I am still debating on using them... The new one's with the IR lights seem to spook them much less yet they are not invisible by any means...

I cleaned out the rain gutters yesterday WOW those dam bugs bread in thier!!! I was going to finish the rest of the house today but with this heat I think I will bring my cats in my room and turn on the AC and post on here like dave... Days like today I am happy I decieded to switch trades over 15 years ago, because working on a 230deg + vehecle in this heat sucks!!! And dealing with chevy customers was not much better mainly due to horrible products... I think I will stick with working on computers, they do not talk back, everyone who see's you says YEA the computer guy is here and I get to work in the A/C and post on the internet while working, yea computers ROCK!!!

Lets see some more trail camera photos - 2012 version!
NFA-ADK replied to burmjohn's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Wow nice pic's guys and good luck with all those beauties!!! Hope to see them in pictures with you in them!!! Some really nice deer! -
I would still hunt but the excitement would not be the same. I hunted one mature doe and she was smart and busted me every time. That challenge was fun but nothing like hunting a large dominant monarch of the woods. Nothing gets my blood pumping more than a big buck track the size of a 30-06 round. Something about a large mature dominant buck gets me fired up more than any doe will ever get me going... Even when I see a racked deer I am not going to shoot my blood gets pumping, just something special about hunting bucks...

After you keep doing it, you will shoot at dif target spots to save your arrows. In the first few weeks of shooting I lost 6 arrows at 20 yards, then had to buy more and that started my 5 bulls eye target shooting. I attribute that accuracy to the MQ1 for I was just a newbie at the time. Small front sight made pin point shooting easy, IMO. If I shoot past 35-40 yards I usually do not robin hood it... Make sure your target is level with your bow, unless you shoot downhill most of the time. In so far as shooting in a tournament I believe it counts as what ever the arrow you robin hooded into. Nothing additional even if it's a bull... Even in 3D shoots I try not to hit my arrows, the novelty wears off after you do it a bunch of times and 20$ per arrow get expensive especially if you shoot a lot and loose arrows from hitting metal in a target, missing, fletching and knock damage all add up to many a lost arrow, IF you shoot a lot... I have lost over 20 this year from shooting at bad targets, damaging fletching and knocks, thankfully some are repairable... You sure did drill it dave, Congrats!!!

He is going to be a tough one to get a shot on, seems very shy and is the main reason he is still around. They get smarter as they age and this one is going to be a tough one to target, may be he will let his gaurd down during the rut!!! Good luck Oblivitare, hope to see you with him later this year!!!
