From May 20 democrat & Chronicle Rifle hunting on way to permanent Livingston County bill clears Senate LEO ROTH @LEOROTH Since 2014, hunters in Livingston County have been able to use a rifle to hunt big game legally. But the law allowing the use of longer-range weapons to harvest whitetail deer and black bear was only temporary and is scheduled to expire on Oct. 1. The process of making the law permanent is now underway. New York Sen. Catharine Young, R-Olean, and Sen. Patrick Gallivan, RElma, have announced that legislation they sponsored to authorize use of rifles for big-game hunting permanently in Livingston County has passed the Senate. Young and Gallivan secured passage of the original legislation but as is customary where rifle hunting is newly allowed, it was only on a two-year trial. “Sportsmen are an invaluable booster to our economy and for many hunting is a way of life,” Young said in a statement. “Permanently allowing rifle hunting will continue to grow Livingston County’s economy and keep local rifle hunters from having to travel to neighboring counties to hunt.” Livingston followed Wyoming, Allegany, Steuben, Ontario and Genesee in enacting rifle legislation. Statewide, rifle hunting is permanently legal in 43 counties. For decades, safety concerns regarding the possible use of rifles in the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes Region were hotly debated. Projectiles from rifles travel much farther than shotgun slugs. However, studies have shown that hunters who use rifles tend to be highly safety conscious and more selective in taking a shot because of their gun’s range. The 2015-16 hunting season was among the safest on record. According to the Department of Environmental Conservation, there were 23 shooting incidents, third-lowest number since records started being kept in the mid-1950s. And for the first time, there were zero fatalities. “The temporary law allowing rifle hunting in Livingston County has been a success and it’s time to make the law permanent,” Gallivan said. “This is great news for the sportsmen and sportswomen of our region and the local businesses that support hunting.” The new Livingston County rifle bill is No. 7187. It has been delivered to the Assembly and referred to the environmental conservation committee.

A neighbor that used to live on the other side of out Tract had a couple of them . Every once in a while they would break them out and haul ass around the circle . I was always surprised that they neve flipped one over . Those little suckers were fast . -
I usually use the 4GB cards . They hold plenty of pics . A couple months ago I bought 10 4GB cards for $20 on EBAY with free shipping . I lighten up some of the night time pics so they show up better . Definitely more deleting than editing .

Congrats on getting a bird ! I had some woman give me "the bird" on 590 last week .

Been there - done that but it takes a while to go through 7000+ pictures . That particular camera is set up overlooking a gully pasture lot . It's red flash and set to take 3 pics at a sensor tripping . This is the field where I shot my doe the opening day of gun season last year .

I need some computer help pertaining to Windows Live Mail . I would deal with any info via a pm rather than bore people that aren't concerned . Thanks in advance .

We get the Gross Beaks , Blue Jays and Cardinals regularly . I havn't seen any Humming Birds yet this year .

One word ----- AWESOME !
-
Tell that to the Black Flies !
-
I had gone out and tried it a few times over the years . Never got a shot . I found Turkey Season to be a bad time in the woods as I would get eaten up by the Black Flies . Those little buggers would feast on me . I would rather save my energy for Deer Season .
-
Doc , sorry I didn't get back sooner . Yes , it's an old wild apple tree . The camera has been in the same location for years . Here is a picture of another Deere that I got .
-
Took the pictures through the window pane . I might even have to wash my windows to get better pictures .
-
They seem to like the suet . I usually hear them before seeing them . The female comes more often than the male . They have been coming around for about 3 years .
-
It's funny she scrapes the excess suet off the side of her beak .

Not hunting related . Had a female Piliated woodpecker and a Baltimore Oriole show a while ago

Deer seem to be attracted to this particular tree all year long

Cams were out over 2 1/2 months

Congrats . Interesting video . -
Went to Geneseo today to pull cards in 3 cameras . Havn't checked them in over 2 months . One camera has 300+ pics that need to be edited , one camera had about 50 pics and the wrong dates ( shows January 2008 ) and another had over 7000 pictures that need to be edited . It's a lot of work when you don't keep up with them .
