Animal Rights Wackos Protest Impending Slaughter Of Meat Cow
fasteddie replied to 13BVET's topic in General Chit Chat
I wonder if the animal rights activists that eat meat buy it in the store where it's made ! -
Ragnar is looking to be in pretty sorry shape . He looks like he is in no condition to drive .

Finally pulled the trigger on a "pocket" gun

I have a Ruger LCP .380 with a Crimson Talon lazer . If someone attacks me , I hope it's in low light as the red dot is almost impossible to see in bright daylight . Withe the 6 shot magazine I can have 6 in the mag and one in the chamber . With my 7 shot clip I can have 7 in the mag and one in the chamber . No sense in carrying it without a round in the chamber . -

You will probably blind some driver on Rt 20 when you are plowing . How far away can you see deer at night with those lights ? -

New 2016 crossbow legislation introduced

I believe you only took the part of Doc's message to suit your needs . He wrote "There really are too damned many people infesting the U.S. these days" . He mentioned the US not the hunting community . With more people coming to the USA , some to choose to move out of the urban areas , purchase land and build a house or a developer buys up a chunk of land and builds a housing tract . I have personally lost a few hunting spots due to this happening . -
I also recall that you ate what was at the table or go without . None of the mamby pamby crap . My mother worked at the canning factory during the summer to supplement the income . We always had a garden and I hated weeding but we had some great tomatoes and I loved eating tomato / mayonaise sandwiches . Any chores we had assigned had better be done in a timely manner . I think I had a great childhood !

We used to have BB gun wars . No eye protection . We took body shots . Also had wars with apple throwers , walnuts , etc .. Made sure we were wearing old clothes so we didn't end up with walnut stain on any good clothes . The lucky ones were the kids that had a rubber glove so they didn't get walnut stain on their hand as it didn't wash off . We hiked in the gullies , slid down the slate banks , caught crayfish and drank water from the creeks . Wouldn't drink that water on a bet now days . A few farmers had old wooden wheeled wagons . We would ride them down hills using a rope to steer with . It's a wonder we survived that . Made tree houses and forts out of any lumber we could scrounge up . Shot pigeons in barns . Played kick the can . Played softball all summer . Roller skated at Long Point Park . Most everything we did was outside .

Let's see if the cross bow enthusiasts whine when muzzle loaders are put into the early Archery Season !

I shot a crossbow once off of a picnic table . Put 3 bolts into a pie plate at 40 yards . With a gun , I shoot most anything beyond 100 yards using a bi-pod except for my 223 which is barrel heavy and shoot with a bi-pod beyond 50 yards .With that in mind , why would I want to shoot a crossbow without a bi-pod or treestand rail ! Actually it will be a moot point as I don't intend to use one until I get too old to use my compound . As for ease of drawing the string back on a crossbow . I shot the PSE TAC-15 and it had the crank draw mechanism .
-
You were the one that mentioned hard to take a 60 yard shot offhand ( post #64 ) .. When I gun hunt I carry a bi-pod and sometimes a fold up camping chair . I don't walk & stalk . I sit and wait . I don't see a problem with a crossbow shooter taking a bi-pod to a blind .

Can't picture someone shooting a crossbow 60 yards off hand when he could be using a bi-pod , tri-pod or other gun rest .

New 2016 crossbow legislation introduced
fasteddie replied to nyslowhand's topic in CrossBow Hunting
But Doc , that would interfere with Dad's hunting . What if the buck of a lifetime came along . Would the dad let little Billie Bob shoot it or would he do the shooting ! The kiddies won't want to sit long in the cold and might never go out again . -
If I was using a crossbow , I would be sitting in a ground blind with a bi-pod rather than a treestand .
-
I have only shot a crossbow once at 40 yards . I wouldn't hesitate to take a 50 yard shot at a deer with a crossbow . Dial one in with less than a dozen shots and you're ready . I wouldn't try to shoot a deer at that distance with a compound . According to an interview with Ottie Snyder who is or was a Representative of Horton , a non archer could be proficiant with a crossbow in a 1/2 hour's time . Minimal practice required .
