  1. It can't be truly sanctioned by the Marine Corps or it would have a Bayonet Lug on the front end !
  2. Got the deer cut up this morning and have some backstraps marinading in the fridge . I vacuum sealed the steaks this am and decided to do the grinding tonight . Ran the heck out of the grinder and then it was time to clean up the kitchen . I was putting the grinder away in the box and thought , oh crap , where is the auger . Had to go out in the garage and dig through the bag that I had tossed out . Dug through the coffee grounds , eggshells , etc but i found it . I won't let that happen again !
  3. Looks like you have several deer there Zem . Whack'em !
  4. Sorry Fletch but that's funny . Sounds like something I would do !
  5. They have been practicing QDM in Italy Valley fow about 5 years and have seen an increase in bigger bucks .
  6. If it's a Trophy you are after I guess you should be looking for another spot to hunt . What are the GPS coordinates of the 6000 acres ?
  7. I had a bad hit on a buck today and that Rage 2 blade tore him up inside . They fly great !
  8. Welcome to Hunting NY . There are a few jokers on here so don't get too uptight when you read posts . Just grab a handfull of popcorn and join the fun .
  9. Welcome to Hunting NY Jim ..............
  10. Thought you might be interested in hearing about a very large bodied Italy Valley QDM Co-op buck taken by member Clair Martin on 10/22. Clair arrowed the buck in his corn field and as he started to drag it out of the field it was obvious that it was an unusually large deer, so he decided to weigh it before field dressing it. With the help of his wife and his tractor (not necessarily in that order) he was able to get the deer back to his barn. Based on his digital feed cart scale (highly accurate) the buck’s live weight was 278 pounds. This would put its estimated dressed weight at about 222 pounds. The buck’s antlers are about 20” wide with 8 points and a score of around 120”. Clair said that he had seen the buck before and based on the antlers being about as wide as his ears, he figured that the antlers were around 17” wide – a “shooter”. It wasn’t until he had the buck on the ground that he learned that the ear tips were actually nearly 20” apart. Clair got 120 pounds of meat from this large bodied buck! We pulled a jaw bone and based on tooth wear believe that he was a middle-aged adult at 3.5 years old. Unfortunately we didn’t get any pictures until after butchering, but attached are a couple of pictures that help show how large he was.
  11. The green would match what's in my wallet ! ( yeah , right )
  12. Thanks everyone ! I was tired from the uphill drag . I had taken my trailer and had my sled to make the drag easier . Why in heck don't the deer run uphill after they are hit !!!
  13. It was crappy today . Got pretty wet sitting in the stand but it paid off . Can't shoot the deer sitting at the computer . Got my stuff all dried out now . Hope I didn't pick up any scent by doing that .
  14. I guess I am a Hypocrite .......... I have been passing up spikes , fork horns , 5 points , etc for the past couple of years and have eaten my buck tags . Last year the only deer I shot a nice doe during gun season . My youngest son and I were sitting out in the rain this am and we were about 150 yards apart . I saw a doe around 7:30 . She came toward the stand that I was in and when she turned broadside I let loose an arrow and shot under her . I had my pin set at 20 yards and she was at least 35 . Dumb ! Dumb ! Dumb ! Around 8 , I had a buck with a broken rack feeding in the field . He was milling around for a while . I was thinking that if he came close , should I , shouldn't I shoot . Well he came in just under 30 yards and I let loose another arrow . I hit him alot farther back than where I had aimed and he ran off with an arrow in his side . My hands were wet . The bow grip was wet but I should have accounted for that . I have hunted enough years to know better . Later , I had a nice 6 point come around and I though , go away , I can't shoot you , i've already wounded a buck . The 6 pt sauntered off and I felt relieved . At 9:30 I got down , plcked up the arrow from my missed shot and headed toward where I saw the buck run . I walked the edge of the field and it was real mushy walking . I was ankle deep in mud . When I got to the spot where the buck had run , I saw him laying dead about 10 yards from the field . The Rage 2 had done it job . Now the work starts . I have to skin and cut the deer up but ........... I need to take a nap first . My hunting gear was pretty wet and I have that in the dryer ,
  15. Gonna be heading for Mendon in a few minutes . Rain in the forecast and it's raining here in Ontario now . Wednesday is the day my son has off so w are going to give it a try . We will probably get our butts soaked but we can't shoot deer from the living room . Rain and cold ....... dayum !
  16. Welcome to Hunting NY ..............
  17. That's a beautiful buck . Congrats !
  18. Now to take the map and put it by itself and have it pinned .....................
  19. Didn't hunt today . I had a dental appointment and then a couple of "honey-do" things to take care of for the wife . I pulled the housing off my backup bow and put it on my Pearson TX-4 . Then took it out in the back yard and sighted it in . I am good to go now . I will buy a replacement sight for the bow at the end of season unless there is a sale / closeout on them . Plan to hunt with my youngest son Wednesday but it looks like rain so I am hoping it isn't a downpour .
  20. You would be surprised at some of the good buys you can get at the Goodwill Store .
  21. My oldest son bought a couple pair of Green Wool Trousers at Iron Mike's Military Exchange in Canandaigua . He said those things keep him real warm . http://stores.ironmikesmx.com/StoreFront.bok
  22. Sometimes , luck does it for you ! Nice job .
  23. A few years ago they had a rash of thefts in Wayne county . Our tract was hit one night and stuff was taken from unlocked vehicles and open garages . The police said they would hit Ontario one night , then say Newark , then Lyons , etc . They would jump around to different housing tracts in different towns . Had a Radar Detector stolen from my wifes car and they didn't take the cord as it was down through the cowling .What about Sheriff York (Livingston Co ) having guns stolen from his vehicle at one of the Malls ! You used to be able to leave your car in the driveway unlocked and even leave the keys in the ignition and not have to worry ! I leave my Bow case open when I leave my vehicle to hunt .
  24. I have at least 3 bow holders that fit on the rail of a ladder stand . Bought them at dicks for $10 each . They make the bow very accessable . I have left them in a couple stands on Private property . Anyway , the bracket that you set the bow into is adjustable by a set screw and you need to have the allen wrench handy . I went to the local Hardware Store and bought a 5/16 18 thread thumb screw and it works slicker that ......... well it works quite well . Now I don't have to dig out the allen wrench anymore .
