  1. Possible showers for this weekend . Making a tenative change of plans . I think I will setup one of my hub blinds at a friend's place in Walworth instead of hunting in Mendon .
  2. Sheesh , poaching with crossbows already !
  3. That's a nice buck and I would shoot him , if given the opportunity . I don't see that many bucks up close . I used to hunt my son's property in Italy Valley and we let the small racked bucks walk . However , his property is adjacent to State Land and apparently the hunters there weren't that generous . QDM is great , if the hunters on the neighboring properties practice it also .
  4. I don't see anything wrong with a head shot , if you are capable . I don't take them as I am not confident that I could do it well enough . " A man has to know his limitations " !
  5. I shoot Rage 2 expandables but I would "NOT" recommend an expandable for the draw weight in the original question . A very sharp cut on contact should be used .
  6. What do you mean when you say that you can't use the powerbelts ? If I get a chance this week , i'll try the 777 powder with the Hornaday 240 gr sabots . I cleaned an awful lot of crud out of that Traditions ! The 777 powder is so much cleaner .
  7. Elmo -- sorry to hear about your bad experience . On the plus side ,It's good to know that some officers still have a kind heart and you may have a future hunting partner ..
  8. When I first started bow hunting (around 1994) , I had read a bit about deer jumping the string . I aimed low and shot right under the deer at 30 yards . He just kept walking .Apparently he didn't read the articles and know that he was supposed to drop down !
  9. I think that is now referred to as Native American Summer !
  10. I think WNYBuckHunter nailed it . Some recurves are faster than the Menace . Just an opinion .
  11. Hey ! Don't knock it . That Lifetime License cost me a whopping $50 ( fifty dollars ) .
  12. The pics have been there every time I checked this thread .
  13. I aim for the lungs / heart . I don't think I would try a head shot . If a person is a good enough shot to shoot a deer this way , I wouldn't consider it unethical . The first deer I ever shot , I aimed for his head , hit him in the neck and he dropped where he stood . . That was almost 45 years ago and I knew nothing about where to aim on a deer .
  14. Apparently the DEC / Police aren't doing anything to resolve the problem and letting the dog owner slide . I believe Grow is saying that her option is to take matters into her own hands and use a red lens spotlight and that the dog would look like a Yote at night . Al least that's how I understand it .
  15. What is a good and inexpensive 3-D deer target . Years ago , I had a MacKenzi and got rid of it as it was shot up . I have a 5 year old Blue Ridge 3-D that is in bad shape . I guess Delta makes a real good one but it is expensive . I will wait until the end of the season when they go on clearance / reduced price .
  16. Those single bevel Ed Ashley broadheads are the ones my sons use . Only $110 for 3 of them . My youngest son shoots the GrizzleyStix shafts also .
  17. Folks that live in the country think it's okay to let the dogs run loose . There are leash laws . I had a dog that screwed up my bow hunt at my SILs in Geneseo . Took pics and e-mailed them to my SIL . It belonged th the neighbor across the road . The neighbor said she couldn't control where her dog goes . My SIL told her "my brother in law can't always control what he shoots" . I didn't see the dog the rest of the season .
  18. It's handy for fishing . You dont need to carry the other stuff .
  19. When they tell CC Sabathia to haul his ass out to the mound , he has to make 2 trips . He really looks out of shape !
  20. I have no idea how they got in but I took the camera off that tree , brought it home , sprayed a small amount of wasp spray in there , closed the cover , double plastic bagged it and put it outside . Didn't see anything after that . They were tiny ants .
  21. Thanks Bob . I was shooting the Fusion 240 grain sabots . I couldn't believe how dirty the Pyrodex is . Wow ! We have a small range so I try to go over when no one else is there and I can take my time . I guess I will measure out some Triple 7 and use a different sabot . My son installed his scope and I will double , triple check it for tightness . It's a Simmons but it worked quite well when he had it on his 270 .
  22. Last night's game was a nail biter . I thought the Tigers were going to blow the lead but they held on .
  23. Excellent idea . Most of the Cameras have a rubber gasket but I have opened cameras before and had water inside . Off topic but I had ants get in one of my old Wild View cameras a couple years ago .
  24. Well , you lucked out . I install and remove Real Estate signs for a guy that owns a sign business . We do Nothnagle , USA , ReMax , Hunt , Cornerstone , Red Barn , etc ... I have driven past homes where I put up a sign 2 years ago or swapped them out when they changed Realtors . Glad you were able to get the home sold .
