Saw 2 strutting Toms this morning . I was heading down 590 on my way to Mt Morris . I passed Winton Road and just before I got to where 590 splits off to 390 I saw two Toms strutting in the field north of 590 . There were also several hens in the field . These Toms were real brave and safe where they were at . It was nice to see them out showing off !

NYBH ---- That 4 1/2 yr old buck is one bigg deer . Congrats !

I prefer to bow hunt rather than gun hunt but I don't think it would be fair to cheat the gun hunters out of their time !

I will be 70 in September and as long as I can still climb into a treestand i'll keep hunting and it would help if I would lose some weight .

A battery backup will run 6 - 7 hours continuous or a few days on regular intermittant usage which is normal for sump pump use . The batteries supposedly last 6-7 years so if it only lasted 5 years, that would be $30 / year (just for the battery cost) . Hunter49 --- Does your son in law have the line to the pump system hooked up ahead of the water pressure regulator ?

Sheesh antler --- I had read that article a couple times and totally missed the fact that it was Muzzle Loader season ! ??? ... ??? ... ???

Fantail --- I need something that will run a sump pump when I am away for a few days . I can hook up my generator for an overnight outage ( only if I am home ) . I am looking for something that will kick on when no one is home and we have a power failure ( which is not uncommon ) . I have been looking at the Wayne and WatchDog systems . You buy a unit and the deep cycle battery and battery acid are an added expense .

Wooly --- I was looking at the backup sump pumps that work off the water pressure . It showed that the hookup had to be between the street shutoff and the water pressure which in my case is all the way across the basement in the opposite corner . Another worry is to make sure the water from the sump hole doesn't back up into the house water supply .

Does anyone have one of these ? What brand ? For years I wouldn't have given it a thought but this past winter / spring we have had a surplus of water coming into the sump hole . There is no water line out back and that is where the water is coming from . My neighbors have raised ranches and no water problem but we have a colonial with a full basement plus a basement under the addition . The least expensive unit would run me about $450 to install myself and it doesn't appear to be a major task for a DIY job .

He got off way too easy ! Should have gotten several year sentence . It could have just as easily been another hunter coming out of the woods that had stayed until near dark to hunt and had a long walk . There is no excuse for the "accident" . To top it off , the guy that shot couldn't see well due to Diabetes . Kinda like being blind and driving a car ! I hope the deceased's family pursues the issue .

I had a ported barrel on my TC Contender 14" 7-30 waters Hunter barrel . I was at the range practicing and thought , why not try this under hunting conditions . A huge tree was about 15' from the shooting deck so I placed my left hand on the tree , placred the pistol barrel across that arm and fired . Day-um ! The pressure coming out of the side of the barrel blew treebark dust in my eyes and they hurt for two days . I got hold of a fellow that deals with Contenders and made a swap for a new "un-ported" barrel . Shot a doe at 55 yards later that year .

I usually wear that shirt under other blaze orange so I have it when I take my jacket off to field dress a deer . As for the deer on top of the cars , I use to wait until almost dark before heading home as I didn't want to draw attention to the deer . I would sometimes get scowls from passing cars but almost always got a horn beep and a thumbs up from pickup trucks !

It never fails . The sabres jump out with a great lead and then become comotose !

How wiil the spiraling gas prices affect your hunting this fall ? If the prices keep climbing will you hunt less , closer to home , etc ? At &5 a gallon , it would cost me over $25 a day to drive towing the trailer with my ATV . ??? Havn't had any luck hunting close to home ! >
