  1. I am sitting here with a runny nose (nothing on the keyboard) and it's 27 degrees out with a wind chill of 9 degrees . I have DMP's to fill but can't bring myself to go out hunting . Starting to feel like a wuss ! According to the weather forecast , we have a bit of snow on the way . After not seeing anything hunting , I raelly find it difficult to go out and face more frustration !
  2. Welcome to Hunting NY ..........
  3. Welcome to Hunting NY . Where in Pennsylvania are you from ?
  4. You had to go back several years to dig that one up ........ ...
  5. A few years ago I was shooting woodchucks for a farmer in Groveland . His wife told me NOT to shoot any coyotes as they helped get rid of some of the woodchucks plus they helped keep their barn cat population down . She said that they were down to 17 barncats .
  6. Yeah , you would think that a slug traveling 333 yards wold have done some serious damage . It must have been a remington slug ...........
  7. Hope the deer show up . We have 16 more days of hunting --- counting the bow / Ml season .
  8. Some of the shops sell used guns on consignment ......
  9. Headed to Geneseo yesterday am and had a deer start to cross the road 1/2 mile from where I parked . Was in my blind by 6:30 and stayed there until 10:30 . Saw a lone fox around 8:30 . Not much shooting happening . Walked down through the pond field , into the woods , and back through some thick stuff . Never saw a thing . Drove down to the village , got something to eat and used the john at walmart . Headed back to the property . As I passed Country Club Road , I looked at the field to the south and saw 2 deer running across the field and they ran behind a hunter that was facing the other way . He didn't see them until they were past him . He was smart enough to be facing the other way because if he had shot at the deer , he would have been shooting toward the highway . I was back in the stand by 1:30 and stayed until 4:30 . Left the stand while it was still light out because I didn't want to cross the rising creek in the dark . Saw absolutely nothing !
  10. I have done some sitting in blinds and also the walk and stalk and havn't had any luck other than opening day ..........
  11. I was driving to my hunting spot in Geneseo yesterday and heading East on Lima Road . I was about 1/2 mile from my spot and a deer was running toward the raod and I slowed way down . A vehicle behind me was closing fast and I had tapped my brakes twice . The driver pulled around me , was going fast and passed me on a solid line . Luckily the deer ran back in the direction it had come from or it would have been a Hood Ornament on someone's SUV . Folks haul ass on Lima Road . It has a couple of 45 mph zones but hardly anyone pays any attention to them . During the summertime there are a lot of joggers , bicyclists and people on horseback . It's a wonder more people havn't gotten killed on that road !
  12. I'm 69 years old . Wooley - I can relate to all of them ! ???

  15. I sat out for over 8 cours this am and this afternoon with a break in between . I didn't se any deer while in the blind or walking . I saw 3 deer while driving the car .
  16. My youngest son had a ground blind stolen on property we had permission to hunt on . It was near saxby's on Rt 251 in Mendon . Nothing is sacred.........
  17. Well , I am hoping there are deer moving around this am since it's Saturday and maybe some hunters will be out there getting the deer moving . I have a 50 mile drive ahead of me yet .
  18. Geno - I thought downstate that they just busted kneecaps ! : ... ...
  19. I'll be heading for Geneseo again early Saturday morning !
  20. A farmer on Gibsonville Road between Perry and Leicester told my father in law and myself that shooters used to do that on his road years ago . That's the only place I ever saw a DEC officer while hunting . The farmer said jerks would even run down deer with an old pickup truck where they crossed the road to get back into the park .
  21. I copied this and did not choose the size .......... If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 36 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might live in Upstate New York. If you're proud that your region makes the national news 96 nights a year because Saranac Lake is the coldest spot in the nation, and Syracuse gets more snow than any other major city in the US , you might live in Upstate, NY. If your local ice cream stand is closed from October through May, you might live in Upstate New York . If you get 131 inches of snow in a week and you comment that 'winter's finally here', you might live near Oswego in Upstate New York. If you instinctively walk like a penguin for six months out of the year, you might live, bundled up, in Upstate New York. If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance, and they don't work there, you might live in Upstate NY. If your dad's suntan stops at a line curving around the middle of his forehead, you might live in Upstate New York. If you have worn shorts and a parka on the same day, you might live in Upstate New York. If you have had a lengthy phone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you might live in Upstate New York. YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRUE UPSTATE NEW YORKER WHEN: "Vacation" means going South past Syracuse for the weekend. You measure distance in hours. You know several people who have hit a deer more than once. You often switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day and back again. You can drive 65 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard, without flinching. You carry jumper cables in your car and your girlfriend/wife knows how to use them. You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit. Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow. You know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter, and road construction. You can identify a southern or eastern accent. Down South to you means Corning You go out for a fish fry every Friday . Your 4th of July picnic was moved indoors due to frost. You have more miles on your snow blower than your car. You find 10 degrees "a little chilly." and 55 is shorts weather. I swear I've never met this Foxworthy guy! You actually understand these jokes, and you forward them to all your Upstate New York friends and to those who used to live here and left. -- (chickens).
