We don't have a "Hunting Tip" section so ......

Hadn't heard of that but I bought some Scorpion Venom String wax fro a small shop owner . I'll see if he has the spray . -
Armor-all (sp) ----- I noticed a squeaking noise when I would start to draw my bow . My arrow would squeak when being drawn across the foam rubber arrow holder on the bow shelf . I put some Armor All on a paper towel and rubbed it on the arrow holder , rubbed it on my arrows and gave a little shot of it in the mechanism of my release . Everything is fine now . Thinking I should spray scent eliminator on everything now .

One thing you want to make sure of is have a minimal amount of slack in the strap that fastens to the tree . I try to put my strap high enough so I have enough slack so I can sit down with no tension on the strap . If you have too much slack you can drop several feet before the "sudden stop" and possibly snap your back or not be able to get back into the stand . http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/2cents.gif[/img]

On Nov 3 , I saw a total of 18 anterless deer , 3 bucks, 2 turkeys and 2 racoons in 7.7 hours of sitting . In the last two outings , I have seen 1 buck in a total of 8.7 hours of sitting ! I don't hunt that area when it gets close to dark due to the terrain . You want to see a lot of doe ? Drive through Mendon Ponds Park as it starts to get dark . The doe are laying low and feeding at night . The doe are out there but they have gone into "stealth mode" !

Hidehunter , welcome to Hunting NY . I take it you drive a Mac Truck ! http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/5243_rofl_1.gif[/img]

Went back down to South Bristol this am . Got goose bumps when I saw the sign for Dugway Road . Saw a buck by the side of the road near Hicks road and saw a doe as I made my turn down the drive to park . Those are the only two deer I saw all morning . I had to remove my blind as the property owner doesn't want us hunting from the ground during gun season . He's the owner so we don't argue . Checked out the shooting lanes for gun season . As far as we know , there will be 2 - 3 hunters on the adjacent property during gun season . Wednesday looks like a crappy day so my youngest son and I may try Pittsford in the afternoon . It looks like rain in the am but clearing in the afternoon . Can't give up yet .

Tree stand hunting: your safety device can kill you

What if the brakes fail on my vehicle , I go over a cliff and I never make it to the ladder stand ? ??? -
Sounds like the way to go ....

I have never tried it . Never heard of it until this post ! Treestand Safety HSS-360 Extension Limb

Yes and No ....... I have seen a few articles on the PSE Tac-15 . It's a powerfull and has amazing accuracy out to and beyond 100 yards . Here I am at 69 years old shooting a 60 & 70 pound bow . Poor me , I should be able to use something much easier . I could have reached out and touched some of those deer with the Tac-15 . I can pull the 60 & 70 # bows okay . I want something easier that will give me more distance with accuracy like the PSE Tac-15 ! You could use something easier, say like a 50 pound bow. People became polarized on bigger and more power. It was all marketing hype to sell more equipment. Macho man stuff. You could use something easier, say like a 50 pound bow. I can pull the 60 & 70 # bows okay . I want something easier that will give me more distance with accuracy like the PSE Tac-15 !

I'll stick with my Hunter Safety System vest . I am hunting from 15' ladder stands and hopefully can reach the ladder should I fall . Mountaineer Sports’ Rescue 1 Controlled Descent System might be the way to go . I saw an ad for it a couple months ago and it looks pretty safe . -
Sorry for your loss Doc . I got goosebumps when I drove past Dugway Road this am on my way to bowhunt .

Nice job ! Nice looking buck . Sometimes things just have a way of working out but it hasn't worked for me yet this yaer .

I would be leary about using the coyote call as the deer might relate that area to danger . Then again , I really don't know . When my oldest son would be trapped in his treehouse , he would have my youngest son drive up with his truck and the deer would scatter but come back later .

If someone doesn't think their life or health is worth $70 , they aren't too smart . If you can afford the cost of expensive archery equipment / guns , etc and don't invest in something that could save your life or keep you from spending the rest of your life in a wheelchair then you should stay out of treestands . Today's paper didn't elaborite on whether or not the man has a harness or if he was climbing up or down from the stand . Until you have the harness lashed to the tree , you aren't safe . I fell for the man's family ! The hunter was Eric Docteur , 48 , of Victor . He was hunting off Dugway Road in Bristol . The article said he died of internal injuries at FF Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua . He managed to call 911 at 9:15 and was pronounced dead at 10:40 am Saturday .

EVen with ladder stands you certainly have to be safety conscienous . I have heard guys say , " I'm not worried about falling only 15' . What the heck ! A little safety goes a long way !

This guy made my day today even though he was to far away to shoot ........ http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj146/parker-bows/New%20Album/New%20Album/?action=view¤t=8PointatWoodys11-13-10.mp4

Landowner ----- I disagree . We have sent several tresspassers on their way from my sister in law's property and ALL of them were wearing back tags . ALL of them .
-
I have never noticed any difference .

These things can be avoided . Folks don't realize the impact this has on their families ...............

Well , i was in the stand in South Bristol by 5:30 . It was a bit chilly ( 28 degrees ) and the leaves were crispy . I had put out some "Love Potion #9" which didn't do a anything to entice a buck . Was getting bored until about 9 am when a buck showed up after I had been on the grunt tube for about 10 minutes . He was about 80 yards downhill from me and really didn't look my way when I used the Grunt Tube or the Doe in Heat Bleat . He took his sweet ole time , walked down into the gulley and started up the other side . I hit the tube again and he appeared to be ingoring my calls . I started to video tape him and he headed back to my side . He crossed the hill about 50 - 55 yards below where I was and went into the smaller gulley south of me and disappeared . Around 10 am ,I had to remove my harness and take my jacket off as I was roasting . At 11 . I called my son and we scouted the area for possible spots for gun season . I may go back down to South Bristol Manday with my oldest son . Here is the buck I saw . It was an 8 point ....... http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj146/parker-bows/New%20Album/New%20Album/?action=view¤t=8PointatWoodys11-13-10.mp4
