  1. I often wondered how good and how long a deer's memory was . For instance , you walk to your stand in the dark and spook a deer . Does the deer remember that spot and avoid it or approach it with caution the next time ? If a deer spots you in a tree , does it remember that spot and avoid it ? Curious .....
  2. Welcome to Hunting NY . I hadn't heard of the Empire Site and found this site by GOOGLE-ing ........

    Hello

Welcome aboard . Post away !
  4. I wasn't talking very loud in the video as I wasn't sure if there might be a deer standing in the laneway when I got there . Mumbles !
  5. I was carrying mine in a black cloth bag but decided it was easier to wear the HSS . I have a stand that is over 1/2 mile walk and it was no problem . I roll up my top or jacket and attach it to my backpack . When I get to the stand , I take the harness off put my jacket on and then put the HSS on over my jacket . No problemo !
  6. Had a real crappy day . I was in my stand in Groveland at 6:25 am . Heard a loud banging noise about 8:30 and saw a 4 point crossing through the woods quickly . Heard more noise . Turned around and saw 3 trucks with trailers driving in the field behind me . They were cutting up and loading scrap metal from old farm equipment that had been auctioned off . The hunt was ruined so I left and visited with my mother . Since I was in the area , I stopped down and visited with Heatmizzer . Went down to a stand in Geneseo and sat from 2-6 pm . Didn't see a thing ! ??? Got down and looked toward the south end of the field and saw 3 deer . I stepped into the laneway but the leaves were noisy so I crossed into the adjacent field where the soybeans had been removed . It was a quieter walk . There was a buck standing across that field at least 200 yards away . If I had a crossbow , I could have shot him . : He stood there and watched me as i continued up the field . When I got to the gate at the Laneway , I nocked an arrow . I took about 5 slow steps . One of the fawns apparently spotted me and bolted and all 3 took off . So much for bow hunting ! I took pics with the bino cam but the subjects were too far away . http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj146/parker-bows/?action=view&current=10-20-10Sharyns.mp4
  7. Oh yeah , the deterrant works great . I started to climb into the stand and realized I didn't have the key with me . I had put the key in a jacket I left in my car 1/2 mile away so I used another stand . Duh !!!
  8. I carry a larger size pin that what came with the stand . Even plastic tubing would work with your method . ')'>http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/smiley-faces-toast-beers.gif[/img]
  9. I think there is much more hemmoraging and meat loss with gun shot deer . Pass throughs with bow kills don't seem to be as bad . http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/2cents.gif[/img]
  10. I heard about 8 shots between 2 and 5 pm today . Sounded like shotgun . I was on Lima Road in Geneseo and the shots were coming from around avon Rd ...... ???

  12. Nice job ! Let's hope it was the same deer and he came back to let you finish the job .
  13. Congratulations .........
  14. Drove down to a friend's property in Walworth and sat in a stand for 4 hours . Nothing happening . It was the most boring 4 hours in a long time ! The woods were very quiet !
  15. Nice bear Slugger ! http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/beer.gif[/img] http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/beer.gif[/img]
  16. If I had an arrow nocked with my bow in the tree , i'd leave the quiver on the ground . You only need one arrow . : Probably by the time you tied the knife on and fished , you could have climbed down and got it quicker and with less movement .
  17. I realize you used the gut hook for a different task but I never cared for the guthook . I bought one of the Gerber Metolius E-Z Open knive and it's like using a zipper . The back o f the blade is flut and rides over the intestines . Works GREAT !
  18. Took a break today and didn't go out ( yet ) . My back is killing me from sitting in a stand for 3 days . Not sure yet about this afternoon .
  19. I was always told that deer that ran a great distance after being shot would have a gamey taste because of the Adrenaline .......
  20. That's Lassie . Where is Timmy ? Still in the well ?
  21. Larry --- That's a sure way to lose a lot of hunters !
  22. Went back to South Bristol this am (Monday) . Saw 5 doe on Walworth-Palmyra Road and a 6 point standing in the road on Route 28 1/2 mile north of Rt 96 . Had to almost stop for the buck to get out of the road . Spooked a few deer while walking down the trail to the stand . Saw 2 doe and 2 fawns between 6:55 and 7:15 . One of the fawns was munching acorns about 5 yards from my stand . Went for a slow walk at 10 am and saw nothing . Sat in the tent blind for an hour and then went to my vehicle to get some coffe and a couple of granoloa bars . Walked down and sat in a stand on the south side of the gulley antil 4 pm . Saw some scrapes but no rubs . Saw a fox and e turkeys .
  23. Same here . More scrapes than rubs ....
  24. Doc --your post reminded me of a BS session we had at work years ago . One of the guys that worked for me was talking about the Deer Alerts that get mounted on bumpers and how well they worked because he drove from Savanah to Webster avery day and had never hit any deer . I told the guys that you had to be careful when mounting the Deer Alerts because if you put them on backwards , they would attract deer instead . A couple guys looked at me thinking , I know he's BS'ing us but ....... it sounds possible ! : ... ... ...
