  1. What do you use for shooting bags ? I bought a few empty shot bags for 25 cents each and filled them with "clean" kitty litter . I've been using the same bags for about 15 years .
  2. Good point . If you don't bend at the waist when shooting from an elevated position , the shot will be high because you would have dropped your bow arm . You want to keep your bow arm parallel to your body .
  3. I totally agree with that ! I am a victim of many of Murphy's Laws . I believe that if I shot a small racked buck , a huge 10 pointer would immediately walk under my stand . I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a doe though .
  4. Nice job Vipertech . They look rock solid . http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/dancing_b06.gif[/img] I put together a home made stand several years ago that I had shot at least 6 deer out of . Anyway , it was 12' high and I had a heck of a time putting it up alone . It was about 20 years ago and I thought I was going to have a stroke getting it in the air and to the tree .
  5. Yeah , that would be okay . I woun't want to see too young of a person turned loose to hunt . Yes , some have more sense than a few adults but .......they are still kids . I see kids nowadays as getting bored too easily . I would be afraid that getting them started in hunting too early that they might get bored and not want to go out in a couple of years . As for the mention of some states allow 6 year olds to hunt with a supervising adult , I have seen hunting shows where 8 year olds are sitting with Daddy in a house blind . The kid is just about sitting on Dad's lap and Dad is doing almost everything except pulling the trigger . That's not right !
  6. Does anyone clean their dies . I had some 223 dies that I left in my turret press for well over a year . They had accumulated a bit of ferrous oxide on the outside so I decided I had better smarten up , clean them up and put them away . I took them apart and used some very fine steel wool inside and out . They cleaned up quite easily . I put a light coat of oil on their outside and wiped them down . I guess I am getting lazy in my old age .
  7. Unless it was a good sized body 4 point I think I would pass knowing I had 2 more days of bow hunting . If I knew the weather was going to be real crappy , I might shoot the deer and then take the next 2 days and get ready for gun season .
  8. I have shot a lot of bucks over the years but nothing bigger than an 8 pointer . I am retired and I make it a point to spend as much time ine the woods as I can during deer season . The 1st few weeks of archery , I will hold out on shooting a small buck . Does are another story ! I try to fill those tags .
  9. The wife and I had some venison steaks tonight and I put together some Mesquite marinade mix . Not much taste . The best mix I have found is a Peppercorn mix ....
  10. I got some Custom strings for my Ben Pearson TX-4 from a guy on another site ...... TWIZTD STRINGS is the name of the place . Here are the strings that I got . They are great !
  11. The stand is about 500 yards from the road , 150 yards from the East property and over 200 yards from the West property . Someone found it a couple years ago and used it . I took a portable drill and drilled the hole so I could lock it . I was surprised to see that someone had been in there as my sister in law hasn't let anyone else hunt her 69 acres . It was definately a tresspasser . At least the person didn't trash the stand when he couldn't get in it anymore .
  12. What did you do ? Spill honey on the camera before you put it up ? ??? ... ??? ... ???
  13. Nope . I'm a Bills Fan and have been since the old days . I root for the New York team ............. ... ...
  14. I don't go in a treestand if I don't have my harness and I don't gun hunt unless I am wearing Blaze orange but .......... I don't think either should be mandatory .
  15. Hell . you can get hurt from a short fall . A friend of ours and his wife were biking on the erie canal Path . They stopped and Tom was straddling his bike . He moved over when some other bicyclists approached . He lost his balance , fell over , hit his shoulder and busted it up real bad . He needs surgery and physical therapy . Nothing to do with hunting but this was about a 3' fall . Too bad he wasn't tethered to his bike ! ??? ... ???
  16. Unless I missed something , that report is over 10 years old . I wonder what they have come up with since then .
  17. We had NYDEER for a while but the owner sold it and I never heard from the new guy . It was a pretty dead site .... I should go in there and clear all the posts as no one visits anymore . Got a few of the members to come over here ....
  18. Yeah , I miss the Oct 15 Season Openers ........
  19. I loaded up 65 cartridges for my son's 270 this afternoon . I took the last 15 rounds and gave them a light crimp . I had to hand weigh each charge on mu Ohaus Balance scale and I was having trouble with the funnel . Static was keeping all the powder from flowing and I had to tap the the funnel quite a bit to get all the powder out . I grabbed one of those laundry dryer sheets , wiped out the funnel and it worked fine after that . I have an old Lyman powder measure but I can't get it to work with Reloader 19 ..............http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/pissed.gif[/img]
  20. The only thing I don't like about the Moultrie cameras is that a lock box runs about $40 unless you make one . I won't put a camera up that I can't lock unless it a WildView ..........
  21. I put my Moultrie IR40 out on a friend's property in walworth this afternoon . I took a ladder out so I could hang it out of the reach of a neighbor that tresspass' during hunting season .
  22. If you are flying down , be careful not to rile any of the Flight Attendants ! http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/help.gif[/img]
  23. Something that ticks me off is to go to one of my stands on private property and see junk on the ground where my stand is placed . Cig butts , candy wrappers etc . this is property where no one else has permission to hunt and someone is leaving garbage there . So this is what I have done with a couple stands . Here is a pic of what the top part of a ladder stand would look like . I used the quick connect clips on the rear brace instead of the bolts . I removed the pins , swung the platform down , lined up the bolt hole and drilled a hole through the ladder leg I bought a Brinks lock with a long shank I can now lock the platform so the stand cannot be used . I carry the clips in my backpack along with the key . It's only a deterrant and someone might get angry and trash my stand but they sure as hell won't use it !
  24. Enjoy the vacation . Nothing like going to Flor-a-duh when it's 90 degrees up here .....
