  1. Very slight chance, but could be that she was just bred.... and just got the shaft..lol
  2. Actually well defined fairly large pointy hoofs will most likely be that of a young deer (both sexes). Smaller pointy I think we can all ascertain is that of a fawn. A mature doe can have just as a well rounded hoof as a mature buck, the difference between that of a mature buck or doe then comes into play would be the size of the print. 9 times out of 10 the large well rounded hoof would be that of a buck, however I have some huge does in my area and you can get fooled some of the time. BTW in my experience the does will maintain a scrape just as much as the next buck. I have heard about the buck dragging his back leg and I have witnessed such in the snow but I'm not quite sure of the proof that these are made primarily by bucks??
  3. I have not used this butcher for deer processing as I butcher all my deer, but a friend of mine was crunched for time once and used this butcher in Brooklyn. I know the butcher as I have bought non venison meat from him in the past and he has been in his current location forever from what I'm told. I recently tried some venison sausage from this guy and it was awesome. I called this butcher out of curiosity and he gets $125 to skin ,butcher and will process the meat into anything you want. Hes not far off the belt parkway and guess you could drop off on the way down from the catskills on your way to the Island? Just a thought. Let me know if your interested and I can locate their number. Heres a quick link to make sausage if your attempting to make your own, I might make my own sausage this year...
  4. These are all the same reasons I cherish every hunting season, my two only hunting buddies (I'm 41) are my dad and my uncle, both are in thier mid 70's and both are slowing down a little. Yes I have other family and friends that hunt elsewhere, but these the two I share camp with and would not have it any other way. Last year was very cherishable for me as the day after opening day I spent the next couple days helping the two ole timers take thier bucks (3 and 8 pointer) out of the woods and butcher. I think my hunting pals know time is really ticking now. Its sad for me but every time my uncle shoots a deer he cries and we embrace for awhile to give thanks for another year together. I would gladly give up my days in the field to help my ole buddies to drag a deer.. Burt, Get that deer and share your story....I'm sure Gus will be very proud of you........Best of luck to all...
  5. Congrats, I hunt in Otsego county as well. What town was he taken in?
  6. Actually I have alot of day photos of these guys on a mock scrape, but they dont seem to come by when I'm there....lol...
  7. Pictures of some nice bucks using the food plot to look for does.. Enjoy..
  8. Great story buddy and I think the world needs more people like you, trust me I know exactly where your coming from when those tears came to your eyes...
  9. If that was your intention then you have failed. Yes your entitled to your opinion, but your are entirely off target in your statement. Maybe you are an anti...trying to ruff some feathers? Grow up.
  10. I know more gun hunters that have lost deer then I have heard bow hunters loosing deer on this site. But one thing for sure is I wont give all gun hunters a bad name. Its hunting and yes I demand respect for deer in my hunting party but bad shots happen. Accidents and mishaps happen in all sports, name one sport that is perfect........Wow talk about trashing your fellow hunters, you might as well be an anti...Please enlighten us as to how you became such a perfect, efficent hunter....Come on there has to be a secret your not telling us?
  11. No, because the deer only seem to be attracted to me...lol..
  12. The cat is out of the bag, secret revealed....now I would expect lots of pictures of bucks on the ground...lol.. Amazing , but human pee works like heck and draws in all sorts of critters...the scrape in the picture has been out for close to a month now and there is never a leaf in it....the deer keep in constantly fresh..Good luck to you too...
  13. She is a smart Ole girl, winded me once. However I did see her that evening. The 4 pointer was in range before but opted to pass, I'm also hoping that she will draw in some of the bigger boys I have on camera.
  14. Thats what I'm thinking....funny to see him chase them all around....horny little fella..lol..
  15. I want to hear some opinions on what I have been seeing......I have a resident doe with two fawns and always trailing behind is this 4 pointer I have seen him chase the doe and fawns on two occassions and they want nothing to do with him and run off and he proceeds to follow them everywhere they go.....My question is do you think this is an unrelated buck and the doe is not receptive yet or do you think this buck is the does offspring from last year?
  16. Wooly, when it comes to hunting and deer anything goes and I have seen deer do some crazy stuff that people would think I was full of bologna. The buck sightings this year have been unreal for some odd reason..On camera... I counted three different bucks within 5 minutes use the mock scrape....must have been a hot doe on that particular day and they all must have been trailing her one after each other??
  17. I pee in them every chance I can and I also put doe in estrus ...I also pee in a bottle when on stand, I know some just whiz off the stand which I think is okay however I feel that whizing that close to your stand will only alert deer to focus thier attention on your stand location...Thats just what I do, may not work for others.. I take the full bottle of whiz when I'm done hunting for the day and dump it all into the scrape.. Has been quite effective as you can see....Actually too effective in the course of two weeks I had 750 pictures to look through, that was a job in itself (of course there are multiple pictures of same deer).
  18. Hell of a first buck, tell the little man Congrats.
  19. Dont feel bad Rick, I have daytime pictures of some nice bucks right near my stands and still cant connect. Only had some little guys in range, but opted to pass. Good luck, those are some dandy bucks.
  20. They are chasing and fighting like heck, had a 6 point and 3 fighting behind the house this morning as we were packing up to leave...
  21. Picture of some does checking the same scrape. Funny thing is I have just as many does, fawns and Racoons visiting this mock scrape as I do bucks.
  22. Attached is a buck in the food plot scenting does and other pictures are several different bucks using a mock scrape.
