Deer enjoying some young tasty Ladino clover...

for the trail cam, this Tom seems happy... Do to life commitments, been too busy to get out there earlier in the month to do some hunting, So I guess I missed the best part of spring season, always next year. Atleast I got good pictures of this big boy and some jakes. Was out there this weekend for first time and saw three jakes but no shot opportunities.See what happens this coming weekend.

Otsego county..Unadilla/Oneonta.. Bulk Lime
NYBowhunter replied to Joeambro25's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I had agway deliver 3k lbs of Pelletized lime, little more expensive however alot easier to spread and alot less waste. I put a couple hundred lbs into a small trailer and pulled with my quad and then I spread by tossing the lime with a shovel. Was me and my dad and we spread the 3k lbs in about an hour or so. -

Yes Split, that's all under one roof, it's all Agway. They do have spreaders , they were willing to lend me one. They also have larger spreaders, if you have a larger tractor to pull the spreader behind. The number you provided Is for agway, need to speak with Al, he has all the food plotting know how and is a straight shooter, also they have a pretty good variety of clover ,brassica , seeds, fertilizer, lime etc.. -

There is an agway on route 23 in town of Stamford which is about 20 minutes east of oneonta, they do small bulk deliveries of lime, they delivererd 3000 lbs of Pelletized lime to me a few years ago. However im not sure how far they travel, worrh a call. Speak to Al. -
Another alternative to the name brand seed mixes is to locate a local agway. This is where I get most of my seeds from. I use agways white ladino clover and I can't see the difference from WI white clover brand other then WI clover seed being inoculated and being a lot more costly. Put the clover side x side and I can't tell the difference between agway and WI and deer on my property do not show favorable browsing over one or the other. At least that has been my experience with my plots. BTW Agways in general usually have a good assortment of both annuals and perrenials and may even order seeds if not in stock .Good luck, keep us posted of your progress.

If I had to guess how wide, I'd put him at 20-21", looks to be about 3" past the ears on either side.

I'll be out there this weekend with my new Xbow and hoping to put one down. Picked up a Ten Point Titan extreme with accudraw and that thing is a real tack driver, deadly accurate and a blast to shoot. Good luck .

So this weekend is opening day for rifle for the SZ - Who is excited!
NYBowhunter replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
I'm very excited, can't wait . Got my two best hunting buddies with me that are just as excited, my dad and uncle both in their mid 70's. doesn't get any better then that. For the first time I will be using my dads 40 plus year old 35 lever action using 150 grain spear point, shot it quite a bit to get use to it and I was breaking paper at 50 yards. I'll be heading up to camp tonight. Good luck and be safe. -

I have a nice elevated enclosed stand on that plot for the ole man, I'll have him take a doe. I definitely need to thin the doe herd, two weeks ago had 11 doe and young pour into that field within a two hour sit. -

Oh don't mind the date and time stamp, that got all messed up when I changed the batteries out. Pictures are very recent from Mid October. -
My Broccoli Rabe and Ladino clover plot is getting hammered, deer are keeping the Broccoli Rabe mowed and the clover is coming in real nice and thick underneath. Going to leave this section as clover for next few years and turn the ground next to it for the following fall to plant my Broccoli Rabe/Rape mix.

That is great, the memories will last a lifetime.

Cover crop for reclaimed pasture
NYBowhunter replied to fernnj's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I had looked into buckwheat however never had the chance to get a plot of it in, its an great attractant for game and is excellent as a green manure crop. Plant it in the spring and then plow it under come fall, then you can put in a brassica/clover or wheat for a fall/winter plot. -
Sorry for your loss Aaron, you and your buddy will be in my prayers. Thanks for your dedication and commitment in keeping this country safe.
