  1. Very nice buck, add him to your hit list . Good luck.
  2. Whitetail, thats one girl fight I would'nt get in the middle of, looks like it hurts..lol
  3. Yeah Pav its pretty cool and a behavior i witness quite often. Reminds me of Kangaroos fighting...lol
  4. Thought this was a cool action shot, two does fighting in my clover plot. Time to thin out the herd..lol
  5. Must be something else that's keeping them from eating the tops because like you I'm also surrounded by vast corn fields and apple trees are all over, but deer always wiped out the tops to my brassica's. Go figure.
  6. I put in the last of my brassica / perrenial plot last weekend 8/3. Have to be careful with a mid July planting due to extreme heat and possible lack of rain. I like to shoot for first two weeks in August to get in the last of my plots this way gives ample time for tops/bulbs to grow prior to first frost. Cabin fever, if deer in your area don't take to eating the bulbs, you may want to look into pasja turnips they are a brassica that produces nice tops, no bulb , holds up pretty good to heavy browsing and deer love them.
  7. Ok grow let me know how that sainfoin works out for you.
  8. Plant away, good for habitat mgt. even if it gets picked clean. Besides you already indicated you will still get heavy traffic, no brainier . Keep us posted of your progress.
  9. I agree grow, diversity for me has been key as well. I already have an established ladino clover plot. This past weekend I completed getting in my final plots of alfalfa and daikon raddish. Now I just need the rain gods to work for me.. Lol
  10. In my experience its hit or miss with deer taking to eating bulbs of various brassicas, however I can tell you with certainty that the tops will get pounded. However the real concern I see with this plot do to its size if you are using it as a hunting spot is that it may get wiped out before the 10/1 opener. If your intention is for deer nutrition then plant away or maybe your intentions are for both reasons. i would plant and just see what happens , this way you can make future adjustments to the plots size or what you plant.
  11. Pav, the plot is about 1/2 acre and holds up pretty well, so well that we need to mow it as the grazing alone doesn't keep the clover short. Also have to keep in mind that I'm in an Agricultural area and also have tons of apple trees around, plenty around for them to browse, I also put in a brassica plot come late summer which helps supplement the deer's available food choices. Fasteddie, I agree there are many uses for the rocks, I use mine predominately as a base so I can get my tractor across my stream, keeps things from getting muddy and provide much needed traction.
  12. Thanks, only a farmer or food plotter would notice and can apprecate a good rock pile...lol ...all picked by hand loaded onto tractor , back breaking work...This year think I'll pick up a york rake to save some time and my back..lol..
  13. Deer enjoying some young tasty Ladino clover...
  14. for the trail cam, this Tom seems happy... Do to life commitments, been too busy to get out there earlier in the month to do some hunting, So I guess I missed the best part of spring season, always next year. Atleast I got good pictures of this big boy and some jakes. Was out there this weekend for first time and saw three jakes but no shot opportunities.See what happens this coming weekend.
  15. All for me except the bear.
  16. I had agway deliver 3k lbs of Pelletized lime, little more expensive however alot easier to spread and alot less waste. I put a couple hundred lbs into a small trailer and pulled with my quad and then I spread by tossing the lime with a shovel. Was me and my dad and we spread the 3k lbs in about an hour or so.
  17. Yes Split, that's all under one roof, it's all Agway. They do have spreaders , they were willing to lend me one. They also have larger spreaders, if you have a larger tractor to pull the spreader behind. The number you provided Is for agway, need to speak with Al, he has all the food plotting know how and is a straight shooter, also they have a pretty good variety of clover ,brassica , seeds, fertilizer, lime etc..
  18. There is an agway on route 23 in town of Stamford which is about 20 minutes east of oneonta, they do small bulk deliveries of lime, they delivererd 3000 lbs of Pelletized lime to me a few years ago. However im not sure how far they travel, worrh a call. Speak to Al.
  19. Another alternative to the name brand seed mixes is to locate a local agway. This is where I get most of my seeds from. I use agways white ladino clover and I can't see the difference from WI white clover brand other then WI clover seed being inoculated and being a lot more costly. Put the clover side x side and I can't tell the difference between agway and WI and deer on my property do not show favorable browsing over one or the other. At least that has been my experience with my plots. BTW Agways in general usually have a good assortment of both annuals and perrenials and may even order seeds if not in stock .Good luck, keep us posted of your progress.
  20. My prayers go out for her and her family, god bless her. Will continue with my prayers.
