Not a doe with horns, just a young buck being foolish...lol...I have noticed that yearling bucks will hang out with either other yearling bucks or with does and fawns....they might be the does offspring from last year??

As many fruit bearing trees I have, I try to plant a few more each year. This year we put in 6 mulberry trees ,5 more apple trees and a few oaks. I'm always looking at the future for not just myself but for my kids to enjoy. Its a good investment for your land and wildlife. It doesnt take make room to plant apple trees, just ensure they get full sunlight and are fertilized each spring.....good luck..

In all the years passing along 42 I have not seen much deer along the roads, but the area your speaking of is alot more promising then the notch as you call it. My uncle tells me that he use to go with an outfit some 40 years ago that wouild take them hunting it was either on or near the notch.and they would use horses as transport. I'm still trying to find a way to get to my camp being my travels would typically take me through prattsville and from what I hear that town got wiped out?

Glad to hear you and family arrived home safely, BTW very nice buck.

I pass all along route 42 on my way up to my place and there are some very steep spots, lots of shale sidehills. Are you in the bottom or high points of 42? I seen an absolute monster buck 2 years ago strapped to the back of someones quad along 42 while I was driving, from what I saw it had a huge rack.

Thanks John, I called this morning and they said if I dont recieve by Sept. 12 then I can go to any local retail store that sells licenses and get a replacement for free.
-
I still have not received my license in the mail, anyone else not receive theirs? I'm planning to call DEC tommorrow. Is there a specific number to call? I checked NYDEC on internet and there is no real specific number to call regarding license issuance via mail?

Apples and jumping deer
NYBowhunter replied to NYBowhunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
There actually is a treestand 10 yards to the left of those pictures and this is where the majority of my bowhunting is done.. What you cant see in the frame is that there is a very large tract of pine trees that lead right up to this mini orchard. As far as ambush, the deer naturally funnel through this area, in the morning I use the back door and catch them coming off my food plots going up to the ridge top and in the afternoon the deer stage up here before going into the food plots which are a couple hundred yards away. -

Yeah apple trees are nice to have, but there are lots more that need prunning. I didnt realize until I bought the property and took inventory of how many there really are,I never really counted but I would think that there are atleast 50 -100 apple trees. They are all over the place, in some places where you would not expect them to be, They are literally on every place and every corner of the property from the fields to the mountain top. From what I can gather most look like they have been there for quite some time. Some I dont intend to care for as they inhabit a part of the property that I keep as a sanctuary, however some other areas I have created multiple mini orchards. The mini orchard where these pictures were taken is being nursed back to health, I prunned all the trees and add fertlizer each spring, they dont produce as much as some other trees, but being this mini orchard is in a very secluded spot the deer tend to visit this orchard at all hours of the day. -
Here are pictures of deer enjoying some apples. This year is a bumper crop for apples that I will never forget, Never before have I seen trees loaded up with this many apples. Some trees are loaded down that the limbs are bent so much they look like they are ready to snap. Enjoy the pictures.

Attched are pictures I pulled recently, the Broccolli Rabe is knee high, sugar beets and turnips are smaller. All looking good so far and are getting hit already. Who says deer wait for first frost before Brassicas are hit, not the case by me. With all the clover and apples around they still make a point to hit the brassicas.Even got a picture of a yote standing in the Broccolli Rabe. Enjoy the pictures.
