For me... I enjoy working on and investing my property almost as much as sitting in the tree and harvesting a nice whitetail. It can be very expensive, it is my main hobby. I can honestly say over the past 5 years of owning my farm and busting my tail I am seeing improved hunting... and I can say that based on trail cam pics, hunting observations, and harvest data.... plus the most important reason... I enjoy it.

Productive weekend-plots and other work

Split... it is looking great. You are right with the early bow season.... much better odds at a mature buck on a feeding pattern. Good Luck this Fall! -

Hey Guys/Gals, There is some interest in starting a Local, active QDMA Branch serving the Rochester/Fingerlakes area. This interest is from some folks on the QDMA forums and some of my co-workers and friends. We are having a small meet and greet to share ideas and get the branch formed.. we hope and come up with a date in August early September for someone from the National level to meet with us to get the ball rolling. This Wednesday July 18th 4:30PM at the Creekside Inn in Rush, NY is the meet and greet. If you are interested please email me with your contact information... Name, Phone #, email address and I will add you to our mailing list. I will post back on this thread the details of the meet and greet and the next date for a more formal meeting. The Rochester Region has be determined a high priority for a branch. Thanks, Mike [email protected]

Congrats guys. I posted my 11.11.11. buck, european mount pics on this thread. http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/7272-wny-skull-mounts-by-brian-pragle/

This is my 11.11.11 buck, a little 2.5 year old 7pt, wide as his ears. I have done my own using the plastic skull, never really liked it. A friend gave me this guys name. He is out of Dansville, probably 3 miles from 390. I dropped him off on 11.12.11 and picked him up today 11.20.11 Fast very friendly service and I am very satisfied. Best part with the mounting plaque Walnut arrow head it was $57 (maybe 52). He does NOT use the bugs.

http://brianpragle.com Met him yesterday, hell of a nice guy. Is very busy but turns them around quickly. I will have mine Next Sat in the evening.

Thanks Fellas! Dropping his head off today to get it a european done on him. I only have one other european and its the do it yourself one with the plastic skull. Looks OK but difficult to get the spread and antler angle correct. A friend use this guy in Dansville, NY $45 for the cleaning,, you pick the mounting board ranges 10 to 45, he can also bronze and do camo. I dont think he uses bugs.

Well what a morning. I sat on the edge of a fallow field on an inside corner, the stand has been pretty successful with 2 does taken from the stand as well as some buck activity. Sometime around 710 I had doe come out of the corner and into some 5 to 6 foot oak saplings, worked her way into a shooting lane, browsed a bit, about 10 seconds later I had a decent crotch horn come in on her trail. For some reason he headed up and around going about 30 yards up and then down. Strange I thought, but about 30 seconds after that I heard some grunting and out walked my buck. He was wide as his ears had decent tine lenght was my first impression, looking like a 2.5 year old. He came straight to the doe she bounding off about 15 yards and stopped. He then faced the other buck his ears back... I didnt hesitate grabbed my bow and placed my pin in the boiler room. Let it fly, great hit he ran 20 yards to the south did a half loop and head NW at the turn he started to wobble got to a 10 foot white pine and I same he go down. He made it may be 49 yards after impact. Double lung and got top portion of his heart. Some pics. his brow tines or lack of are little acorns. Kinda of neat. neat to get a 11.11.11 buck too! Good luck guys! Hunt hard, hunt safe!

The problem with our own observations and making it the rule of the land is there is simply not enough data to actually obtain a probably statistic. Everyone looking at there hunts over the years, it may be a lot but not enough. Obviously there are a lot of variables with gun vs bow bad shot good shot etc. Same goes for lunar calanders etc. Alot of folks swear by them because by chance they have seen more deer on those specific days. When a proper scientific approach is taken with tons of data points it is clearly shown the lunar calanders do not mean more game seen. Bottom line is we are all responsible for our shoots and decisions made in the woods. Mistakes are made, bad decisions are made, hopefully people learn and become better stewards of the land and animals. 308 may have had a point and valid point to a degree, but it is so obvious he was just trying to stir the pot. His comments got extremely low, some may have not seen the one especially low that got deleted, but it was inexcusable and down right nasty and personal towards someone. Happy hunting. Remember, just because we see or experience things in the woods it doesnt make it the the obsolute. Good luck this AM. SHould be a good one!

We harvested our 6th doe off my property yesterday. My buddy shot her and she dropped 30 yards from the shot. Interesting thing, he had 4 bucks come in during and after the shot. She must have been close to being "right". One 1.5 yr old buck with a half rack stayed with her for 1.5 hours, running around her, grunting, pawing at her, mauling her with his antler, smelling her this was around 10 am. I finally went down to the area got within 30 yards he had bedded with her for 45 min. My bud watched this show and he wished he had a video camera. I got some footage with my iphone... but only of me walking up, you see him, he gets up and runs and stops. When we were field dressing her we heard grunting. Pretty cool. Next few days are going to be tought with temp of 52 at 4am.

One in 3 hunters will fall from a stand in their lifetime, so the what 15 or so who replied, half of us will have a fall of some sort. I also use the hunter safety system, very easy great system, only thing you need to make sure is the strap around the tree must be in good condition, no leaving them out there and it must be put on the tree correctly. It is a matter of time before the State makes a safety harness Law for any above the ground hunting. I dont like mandates or laws about everything, and enforcement will be very difficult. For those of you who dont have one, get one, tell your wife to put it on your birthday or xmas lis, it's an easy buy for them when they know it will save a life of someone they love.

I got a call into dog search. Going back to look at 11 AM. Chances are slim at best, but it is my responsibilty to do what I can.
