  1. Yeah the sole and tread is pretty thick and aggressive. I am glad you brought up the break in time becasue that was something I forgot to mention and one part that really impressed me. I think mine are 1,000 gr but they come in 200 and 600 as well. http://www.irishsetterboots.com/USD/hunting-boots/big-game
  2. I would bet just about anything that they don't have jurisdiction over that navigable waterway.
  3. I'm not a hiking boot fan. Seems very hard to find them in the EEE width I need. I won't buy a boot unless I can try them on. They certainly are not as light as some others out there, but I can't say enough good about the Irish Setter Elk Stalkers. very comfortable boot. I wear them from bow and into early gun. They are saved for hunting and not used for other purposes and I am on my second pair since 2005 with a lot of life left in them.
  4. I certainly can feel the difference when I do it with my 700 BDL and then my Winchester 94...lol.
  5. I think they could sell it if it didn't happen during a current season and it will be viewed as expanding the hunting opportunities. I chose to hunt in other areas during that time including the ML season up north last year. We typically head up there to take does on the antlerless only tag but have the opportunity to take a good buck if one comes by. If there were a gun or ML in September that was antlerless only I know a lot of guys that would love to take part in it.
  6. I knew you did. Just dos t want someone new to read it wrong.
  7. Functionally the AR platform is not different than the ones I listed so why not just ban the mags over 5?
  8. Personally i think it was more of a slap on the back of the hand becasue of the % of doe take compared to the overall bow kill. It well way short of what takes place in the other seasons. I just think they underestimated the level of the angry response.
  9. So the semi auto rifles so popular for hunting like the Win 100, BAR and Rem 7400 should be gone?
  10. How many of these fully automatic rifles have been used in the mass shootings?
  11. One thing we haven't discussed here.....what is your budget? I ask because I can't begin to tell you the number of folks I have seen complain about the accuracy of a gun, only to find out that they topped a good rifle with sub par mounts, rings and scopes.
  12. I've done it successfully before. Many of those areas are the areas that they need population reduction. I would caution that you need to check the local regulations/laws about discharge of a weapon there. Many have their own regulations that go above what DEC mandates. Worth looking into.
  13. I prefer the flip up seats too and I like the ones with the platform that goes all the way back to the tree.
  14. I'm just the opposite. I love having them on the bow stand. in most cases I lay the bow right across the shooting rail and rarely ust a bow hanger. I've never not been able to take a shot becasue of them. I can understand how someone that is 4'11" could have an issue. LOL
  15. Not sure of your size but just an FYI. the 308 is a VERY manageable round for recoil. BUT. other style and weight rifles will feel much different compared to the AR platform you shot. there is no recoil reduction in a bolt gun. Not trying to scare you but it you can hook up with some members of a local shooting range they may be able to assist you. Some gun ranges even rent guns for shooting.
  16. Zem hit it on the head with that post. Your past experience shooting, how much you will practice, your $$$ range all factor in. . personally i can't think of a single time I have shot more than once while still hunting. Being able to accurate make that first one count is the most important factor.
  17. in reality Rob, a BTU is a BTU. if you go propane you will likely be using more than you would for your house oven since the House oven is usually better insulated than a entry to mid range propane smoker. I have a propane becasue I wanted to mobility and not being tied to electric since camp doesn't have it. If I were to buy one for home it would be electric. Integrated meat probe and they have them now in bluetooth so you can monitor from your smart phone. very well insulated. I don't liek the ones that use the pellets though. I like the actual wood chunks.
  18. Only reason I knew was because of where WNYbuckhunter hunts ...lol
  19. Me too. I stick with water when doing a turret becasue I add carrots, onions, celery and parsley to the water. The resulting liquid in the pan after smoking is the base for the turkey soup I make out of the carcass. Cool it and skim the fat and add the turkey.
  20. I love to Topo feature. Not super detailed but sure give you an idea.
  21. I didn't let it load all the way...lol Knew it couldn't be H
