  1. looks like it is going to SUCK (in hunting terms) for opening day in WNY. They are talking temps near 80 with lows in the mid 50's. Last week was perfect with day time just hitting 60 and nightime in the mid 30's. You look forward to that magical opening day for 9 months......its hard not to want to sit in your stand.....but, man, the deer are going to be bedded up and nocturnal if it is 80. Just venting....
  2. agreed, i have one hanging on my wall (buck in my avatar). I was saying they are incredibly rare in general, but NY even more so since we don't have the population of an Iowa for example.
  3. Not going anywhere. I posted some pictures for the sport of this forum and for other people to enjoy. I won't justify my time in getting in a pissing contest with idiots. lol. Eveyrone is entitled to an opinion and I respect that. Enjoy your popcorn!
  4. thanks. I wouldn't shoot the one on the left. He is young. So far, the one on the right is the only one I am letting an arrow fly at.
  5. yes, not great pictures, but there is something called trust (that is, trust that i have watched him for 2 years and know enough to say what I did. I wouldn't post otherwise and you can look through my posts and see I am not a BS'er). Thats why I said to the d-bag earlier (who I won't even bother responding to cuz he is clearly just being an idiot trying to pick a fight an not worth my time), that it doesn't matter what he thinks...lol. He is a 9 point. 5 on left, 4 on right. 2's and 3's are close to 10" each. Spread and main beams are close to 20". Mass will average over 4". You can do your own math, but I don't need to be more specific than that to someone intelligent like you. Last year he was a 9, but just barely. Had a crabby front on his left side (thus his nick name crabby left....lol). He was probably around 120. He put on some inches this year just in his overall frame (wider and taller). Very pretty buck. and you are correct, a 140" 8 point (especially in NYS) is unheard of. Very hard for an 8 to score.
  6. don't need to. I am hunting him, not you. Enjoy your life.
  7. Not hard to score a deer. I've scored over 100 deer. I have 50 pictures of this buck from this year and a history with him from last year. He is damn close to 140. Maybe a shade under or over. Argue all you want.
  8. same deer cruising by a different camera.
  9. Yeah, thats what I thought. Believe it or not it is a doe. She is in the pictures sequence prior to the one I posted.
  10. yeah, its weird because geographially speaking, we are literally only a few miles from TONS of black bears. I don't know why they don't come just a little further north and populate. It was a matter of time, so I wasn't totally surprised, just cool to see them!
  11. went down to camp this weekend and pulled my cards for the first time. I was hoping the 160"+ 12 point i have been after for 3 years survived (posted pictures last year), but it looks like it is on to other deer this year. This is so far my #1. The one on the RIGHT! The one on the left needs another year or 2. He is about a 140" 9 point.
  12. Went down to camp this weekend and pulled my cards to see what was roaming around. I have been hunting this property for 30+ years and have never seen a bear. Nobody in our hunting group has ever seen a bear. I have 8 cameras up on the property and have never gotten a picture of a bear....EVER. .....until this year! I guess they are moving in. This is in Forestville, NY.
  13. There has only been 2 major advances in modern bowhunting. First bows were the old school "long bow" with almost no letoff (like a Bear). The first major advancement was the compound bow. This was obviously huge for hunting with the size reduction and letoff. The second major advancement is the current (last 5 or 6 years) modern compound bows. With advanced technology they have gotten faster, lighter and even more compact. I only write that (not to start a controversy over the history of the bow because I am sure you are going to get all the know-it-alls in here starting a pissing contest), but because the current bows on the market (past few years) are plenty light enough, plenty small enough and plenty fast enough. Period. There isn't a damn thing they can change on a bow every year to justify buying a new one. They advertise 360 fps vs 340 fps....yeah? and? 340 is wicked fast enough. They advertise 5 lbs vs 5.6 lbs? yeah? and? etc. etc. don't fall into the "advertising trap" of these manufactures. Unless you have a reason to change, don't. If it shoots straight and kills you a deer every year....thats all that matters. And, fyi, I bought a new Bear Anarchy 2 years ago. Absolutely love it (and first bow I have bought since the super old Bear mentioined above). I will put my "old" 2-year old Anarchy against ANY bow that has come out since then!!
  14. I guess I just am hesitant to waste a $25 broadhead on a turkey! If it gets ruined shooting a wallhanger deer, so be it. For a turket....eh....not so much. I think I will just throw an extra arrow in my quiver with an old broadhead just in case.
  15. This is a long thread, so I admit, I did not read everyones comments. If this is redundent, excuse me. Does it really matter who is running against Cuomo? Are you people so naive to think that NYS will ever be anything but a liberal democratic state? Not in our lifetime will you EVER see NYS be anything else. NYC is the only thing anyone cares about and until that changes (which is never), it makes no difference. Here is a summary of the state we live in: $51 BILLION aide package signed by Cuomo last year (that is a B for Billion). $50 Billion went to NYC.....the other $1 Billion wen to the rest of the state. Enough said? So, talk about "campaign" funds all you want. Go ahead and donate $100 Billion to some republican to run....you will not get a republican in office. Period. end of story.
  16. Good call on the Grim Reapers! I shoot them. A few things that I love (and everyone should know): 1) They come with the practice broadhead to make sure they pattern the same as your fieldtips. And they are spot on! 2) The companies customer service is OUTSTANDING. I made the mistake of thinking you have to sharpen these broadheads out of the package. Which I did, and then wasn't very happy with the job I did. After speaking with their sales manager at the company, he sent me a new package of broadheads absolutely free and then said "DO NOT sharpen them." They are sharpened to the exact needed sharpness where they will maintain the integrity of the blade and not "roll over" the edge upon pass through on a deer AND yet sharp enough to cause catostrophic damage. Anyways, when I have good exeriences with companies (which are far and few between these days), I like to support their products and pass the info on. The botom line is you will LOVE those broadheads!!
  17. My backpack has seen its better days. I have been looking for a new one for 2 years now, and I am too picky I guess. Every year I just can't seem to find a really, really good one. I came across this one: http://tenzingstore.com/packs/tcsp14.html Anybody hear of this company or have experience? I like the fact that you can strap your rifle on, and leave it strapped even for shooting. It serves as a rifle rest (i hunt a lot out West as well where you hike miles and miles, so not just whitetail treestand hunting). Any other suggestions out there?? Main criteria are it has to have lots of pockets, small and large. It obviously has to be weather proof. The one thing I want to avoid is an internal frame pack (like the link above). Seems hard to finda larger sized quality pack that doesn't have the internal frame. thanks.
  18. Agreed! As I stated in my response prior to yours, I take ZERO chances. I have a ton of issues with tresspassers to begin with. I eliminate all the beaurocratic BS and just "Overdo" it. I have signs galure. I put all my information on the signs. I make sure that I trim all the branches around the signs so you can see them at any angle. I gaurantee you that nobody could knowing walk on to my property and say "uh, gee, i didn't know." When I call the police, you might as well just admit you are an idiot. I do not and will not rely on some loose interpretation of the law as to how losely I can cut corners and still be in the right. Sore subject for me. lol.
  19. Let me ask a question that is begging to be asked: Why not just post it the right way and avoid any possible issues? It seems like the debate is if people can get away with trespassing if not posted correctly. Ok then, don't take short cuts. Problem solved. And, if you are one of those people who likes to take short cuts, then do so knowing by simply saving 3 seconds by not putting your address on (or something) might be the same as not even posting it to begin with!
  20. 7 glowing reviews and no negatives huh? So unlike this website....lol. A close friend of mine absoltuely positively swears by them. He talked me into getting one prior to turkey season this year. I used it turkey hunting and as far as I can tell, it worked (or maybe it was a light day for skeeters). The TRUE test however is our annual fishing trip to northern Canada. The bugs there are SO thick sometimes they dim out the sun. We brought 2 of them up with us to test their limits. After a good day of fishing when you want to sit outide with a cigar and a cocktail, you can literally be carried away. We fired them up, one on each side of our group of 6 to create a 30 foot bubble and.....got eatin alive!! lmao. I suppose they are so hungry up there it is like the dog who is ok with the shock to excape the invisible fence.....just an inconvenience. I believe, like most products, things work in moderation. Just keep that in mind. Nothing is a miracle worker that is going to suddenly rid the earth of mosquitos or black flies.
  21. I'm in! Like taking candy from a baby. I have my deer already chained to the tree....
  22. Thats a bit over the top...lol. I hope you are going to have satelite TV when you are done!
  23. I have 4 of the bushnell cameras and have had zero issues with them. Not only that, but my batteries from LAST year still have 2/3rds juice left in them. They are super effecient. They only take AA which was one of my biggest factors for buying them (the cheapest batteries possible). Highly recommend.
