  1. Hooked up the snowshoes and went to check cams. Saw 10 deer in under an hour. 3 nice bucks too !
  2. I'm guessing 139, plus 7
  3. Update to your question... seems the rut never got cancelled. I have about 3.5-4ft on the ground and have been watching bucks chasing does yesterday and today. Saw 3 different bucks today within 30 minutes. All from the kitchen window ! Ain't slowing them down a bit !!
  4. Actually, the most graphic and gory blood trail I have ever seen was with the 6mm. Ten feet both sides. Hit a doe through the heart at 85 yards. It looked like a chainsaw hit her. Exit was softball sized.
  5. I hunt with a 6mm 95grain. Never shot more than once, never lost a deer, never had to track more than 50 yards.... ALL were vital shots except one. Most had pass through. Hit a slob buck 3 years ago through the shoulders, no pass through, went 50 yards and piled up.
  6. There is food elsewhere. What do you have within a mile ? Big corn, farmers fields, apples, acorns ? Have faith. They will find that corn once the snow is up and rut is all over.
  7. I'm looking to expand my turf this year and would love to stomp some new ground and get some fur in the dirt. I'm no pro but i have a foxpro and plenty of yotes under my belt. ( and I get great satisfaction killin dogs) If you would like to rid your property of yotes, or tag one yourself and just need me to get you motivated let me know. or if you just want to spend some time in the woods after deer season I'm in. Batteries are cheap and stands usually last 30 minutes or so. Let me know !
  8. So i had the jaw aged. I also looked at a very specific chart and for this area.... he is 6.5 !! Unreal. This verifies he is indeed the bucks that has haunted me for 3 seasons !!!
  9. Hey brother, glad to hear !!! Makes me very humbled to know I was an encouragement. I really have invested so much time effort and dollars into this place I call home... and it's paying off. But if my story's motivate that's even better than me just nailing 2 big guys !!!
  10. You can rest assured I will be eating every last steak. Tenderloins for lunch and dinner today, and backstraps for the next week or so. I feel, if you cook it, you will kill any infection type stuff... either way, if I get sick I'll let you know.
  11. Unfortunately he will be getting a " studio cape " his just won't work and the taxi said I wouldn't be happy. On a positive note he happen to have a 21" laying around that will be fine with me
  12. Well, the taxidermist said I had the ugliest buck to ever come in. I took a close up of his wound... not for the weak stomachs
  13. 5 years of everything ! Plots, cams, scouting, stand locations, playing the wind, not overhunting....etc. I am now a firm believer that it works, takes time but it works.
  14. Little better daytime shot. 18" spread. Almost 9" g2's and a 8.5" g3
  15. Well, I woke up head hanging planning on going to work when my wife tells me to hurry up and come check this out... so I rolled out of bed and started watching the news, cars stranded, 5' some places, travel bans etc. So, I gave a look outside and it sure was snowing and blowing, but, that itch was there. So I convinced the wife that it was worth a shot, so I bundled up and headed to my covered tower stand. Only sat for a few hours cause it was impossible to see most of the time. On my way back to the house I crossed 2 sets of fresh tracks... what the heck !! They snuck right behind me and I never saw them !!? I knew with the " feet " coming I had to get the plow on the wheeler so I changed outfits and headed to the out building. I was prob working for about 20 minutes when something caught my eye outside. To my surprise it was a rutted up, puffed neck 8 point, looking all stud like. He was looking right at me and was only 15 yards away. So I shot him with the camera. I could tell he was on a mission so I knew I had to be out there for the evening sit. So I did my work, plowed the driveway and headed back out into the abiss of powder. Deer kept running around all evening. At one point visability was about 20 yards and I had a yearling run in under my stand and run right back the way she came. I knew " it " was on. The deer just kept pouring out of the bedding area all evening, either chasing bucks or girls being chased. It was awesome to know every time the snow slowed I would see deer. So I had seen a large body about 80 yards away but couldn't make out what it was, so I stayed focused on where it was. Must have stared for 30 minutes and still couldn't tell what it was. just to be sure I wasn't missing anything I did a full scan and to my surprise a big body deer coming from the opposite way right into my shooting lane....so I fired up the red dot and got ready. I could barely see at this point with the snow blowing but I caught a glimpse of bones and knew he was mature, he came right in to bow range and stopped for a perfect broadside shot. Boom ! And off he ran, about 40 yards then stopped in the swamp and looked back, so out of desperation thinking I may have missed I tried to thread one through the apple tree and off he went again. Got down to find blood and hair at my first shot so I got right to tracking. He went about 60 yards total and there he was !! Oddly enough I thought I hit him once but when I skinned him out I had actually put 2 in him, one was on one side of a rib and the other was the other side of that same rib. Nice 2" group ! His heart was barely recognizable. The only bad part to him is that he must have taken on one of the big boys and he had mutiple punctures on his neck, one was so bad the fur is missing about 5" around the oozing hole. This has been a great year for me, my best buck ever during bow and one of my best bucks during gun. A ton of work over the years at this property and obvious qdm/ let em go principles helped me achieve my only 2 buck year ever. So excited ! Looks like I'll be washing dishes at the taxidermist !!
  16. Unreal day. Was an absolute blizzard with visability going from 10 feet to 50yrds all day long. This evening was crazy, when I could see- the deer were running mad. Saw more deer today than since opener ! And of course, just as it got late..... this old boy came through and I let him eat an ounce of the good stuff !! Treeguy has officially had the best year ever.
  17. Snow day.....means hunt day !! Was an absolute blizzard all morning. Came in got atv plow on, did driveway, lunch, then back at it ! Supposed to end up with 70" by morning...
  18. Lots of snow bombs Fallin in 9h. Been our all day....no brown. Back to work tomorrow for a long week.
  19. 9h... loud as usual. First shot at 629...followed by a bunch more all day. Saw a bunch of does, couple small bucks, was slow for an opener, especially with the snow and low Temps. Tomorrow is another day. Get ready for the " where are all the deer " posts.
  20. Be safe my orange friends. Good luck !
  21. I'm sure the condom is not the only thing getting ratty.... lol.
  22. For once in my entire hunting career.... I am holding off till gun opener. Usually I am scrambling to switch stands and check cams for that last minute shot at a monster.... already got em in the freezer. To those out there on the last minute grind, I sincerely wish I the best luck and hope you get the opportunity you've been looking for !!!
