They do this on Long Island. Shoot a doe and go back for a new permit. They are more than happy to give them out. You have to bring the deer to the DEC station. They look it over and weigh it. Years past we would wait on the does and not shoot for a number of reasons. For the last few years I tell my gang shoot the first nice doe you see. This is important for hunters who travel a distance to their camp. You never know when you hold out on those permits and then it happens that you can't make it back to camp or all you see is yearlings. Opening morning by 10:00 we had three doe and one buck hanging.

I have seen some big deer. I'll pull cards this weekend and report back. Going to camp for 3 days with my 10 year old-all fun-n-games!

Although I'm not a huge fan it was cool seeing his name in lights in my home town. He played at the Paramount theater in Huntington last night. No protests outside which was good (very liberal in Huntington) lol

It always amazes me around this time of year receiving the hard cover edition of their catalog. I know what it costs to put things like this together and ship them. How many of you get this and do you think it is worth the effort on their part?

I don't see anywhere that it says the DEC wants to commercialize hunting. With that said in highly dense areas of deer towns are using sharp shooters. I really don't see this impacting a normal density hunting area.

Yeah interest rates still at all time lows although the fed is talking about raising them soon.

My schedule just has gotten so busy especially after my daughter decided to play for the A team in soccer. Two games every weekend in the fall excluding Columbus day weekend. Season ends in December. So I sat down with my brother and we talked about a game plan. We came to the decision to go up Columbus day weekend to bow hunt. The next hunt will be Tuesday-Friday right up to gun opener. Stay and hunt gun first three days. In the end it will save us some money in traveling and food. We usually are up every other weekend for bow season. It's a 6 hr trip so it does add up. I love to late season hunt with muzzleloader so that will be there also. Of course the L.I. season runs so long we will take advantage of that. The only thing that bothers me is that I love the fall so much in the Finger lakes, I'll just get a little taste this year:(

Haven't seen much of a spike on L.I. Harbor is full of boats and boat traffic. Maybe they are all trading up???

F&S store to open by Elmira also. Quality is pretty good so I think it will do well.

Wow must be the slow time of summer that has all these political threads. BTW I shot 3 chucks the other day at camp. #5 shot Turkey load only used two shells. Too bad can't shoot like that at deer season! lol

Honestly I wouldn't touch it without road frontage. Unless you are getting a super deal I would pass.
