  1. I still think if you have 4 guys coming in and filling 13 doe tags in a particular area it will hurt the population and in the long run screw up your hunting. Now can 4 guys with families consume 13 deer sure. I wouldn't want it happening by my property.
  2. Most likely you probably would never know because they probably were not shot same day/weekend. If it were totally legal nothing I could do about expect just voice my opinion to them, they could tell me to take a hike thats all. I understand where your coming from, I had some guys pushing AR's upon me and I'm not sold on the idea, I did listen though.
  3. So 4 guys take 13 doe in that area. If it were near my property I would bitch about it. That is a huge hit to the population in one select area.
  4. Top right of the photo is a skunk my brother snared years ago. He was living under the shed. It has proved to be a real good conversational piece and great for pranks.
  5. It is now legal to pick up road kill in Illinois by a person holding a hunting license. It is legal during the hunting season only.
  6. No they don't Dave. Mineral rights can be retained by the seller. If you buy a piece that doesn't come with rights you better put into the deed a no drilling or storage clause. That you can negotiate.
  7. That's not a bad deal. I think price per acre is a bit high but you including the mineral rights, which helps. Good luck selling it, probably won't take too long.
  8. Forest, That was you best advice right there from G-Man. We did a small plot like that before we got the machines to do a bigger one. We used Throw and Grow and it really came up nicely. Actually that year we had deer, turkey and bear visiting the food plot. Now this was a staging area before the animals hit a corn field. They had bigger meals in mind but it did draw them to one spot. Good luck!
  9. I'll check it out, I'm in the market.
  10. How many guys filled the 13 tags?
  11. and it all ends well, night Johnboy, night Maryellen and the harmonica in the background..........................
  12. Dave, Takes me 51/2 to 6 hours to get to my place. Savona is about 20 minutes before me. 8P Steuben county would be my guess.
  13. That's real tough. How the heck do you shoot into a disturbance and not know what is there.
  14. I just can't.........................
  15. I didn't think bubba had to apologize but that ws nice. Remember how posts can be interpreted. Most of the guys on here are really knowledgable about whitetail hunting. Ask away......
  16. Forest, It's nice to hear more about the story. Remember when you post include all the details. A post can easily be taken a different way by another reader. Keep at it and this is the place to ask questions especially when you don't have anyone close to you that hunts. I wish you luck next year, remember practice often, the thrill of the hunt comes down to closing the deal. Nothing like standing over your trophy knowing you did something many can't. We were all in your place t some time in our hunting careers, your kill will come have patience nd practice. Burt
  17. Thanks guys! I like the one with the picture Dave!
  18. I really liked the flexible plastic piece that goes over the skull plate. It was pre cut and sort of adjustable to horn size. Thanks guys.
  19. Yup, hope he reads the posts, from all of us.
  20. Here is a pict of the horns I just mounted. Pretty cool kit from Cabelas, easy to do. Got a call from my Nephew yesterday, an elk and caribou mount may be ending up in my cabin next weekend. A friends relative passed away and they have no place for these two mounts. The wall in the new addition at the cabin is probably 16" tall they will look great there. I'll post picts if it all comes about.
  21. Second, if you hit low (stomach) you need to back out at least 6 hrs. Bring a friend along to help track if possible. (Really no indication where he hit this deer) If all else fails call deer search and they will find it. You have to exhaust every option to find a wounded deer.
  22. After reading this post again I can say I have to agree with Wolly and Doc. Here is a kid so excited he kind of loses himself in the moment. Look at how excited he was to have that deer in his sights. Now the pin mistake, hate to say, happens to everyone. He does need and education on ethics "So what " doesn't cut it for me. With all that was said I don't understand how a deer spurting blood 6 feet up a tree couldn't be found. I guess a bit of exaggeration there. I think the kid needed a bit of help on the hunt, don't you think.
  23. Don't have one but been meaning to tell you I really like your new picture, I mean that.
