  1. I think 2.5 year old deer is mature. Do I harvest 1.5, yes. If I had more time in the woods I would think about passing the 1.5's. I don't and love venison so a 1.5 will do.
  2. I got one on my property. She is real light colored with some spots, pieball. I will shoot her if I get the chance. Funny thing I watched her and 4 other doe cross my field. The 4 doe got out in front of her and she stayed at the edge of the woods. They crossed but she went up to where there was more cover and crossed there. Go figure? Oh yea, my neighbor has a full body mount of a pieball, looks great. He still scores every year!
  3. I don't hunt those areas but right now probably isn't the best time to get an answer. All the boys are on their way or at camp. Bet you have an answer next week. GL
  4. Are the animals getting bigger or are we getting smaller??? That is huge!
  5. Some of us are gone by now some are leaving this morning and some (like me) have to work and will leave tonight. Good luck this weekend the weather looks perfect! Be safe, know your limitations, know your target and know what's behind it! Hope you bag a Big one, Burt
  6. Doc says"society in general looks down upon hunting" and "there are still pockets that exist today" of the traditional hunting society. I agree with what he wrote but just so you guys get a sliver of another extreme. I work in the heart of NYC been there almost 20 years. In the beginning I kept my hunting talk to myself or a very few but over the years I have found out that the people I work with are either neutral or in favor of hunting. Rarely do I come across a nut that wants to jump down my throat. In fact more recently people will strike up conversations with me asking all kinds of questions. Yes I work in the publishing business but not for OL or F&S. I work on financial magazines. I don't think it is as bad as we see it (negative sentiment) sure there are all types out there but until you really talk to them you will never know. Good hunting, Burt
  7. Jake, Nice picts, I have a place over in Howard, not too far from you. Good luck Saturday!
  8. Boy is it setting up to be a great opening weekend, can't wait!
  9. I new I was eating a "breakfast of Champions!" I have and pack the same exact thing Eddie!
  10. I just moved most of my father-in-laws stuff to my attic, two old coleman lanterns a stove and a heater that you would fill with fuel and light the top like a giant wick. He used the stuff at Indian lake and the Catskills, I used it in the Catskills also. Cool stuff!
  11. We had some reports of big bucks locked in on does. Following not chasing wherever they went. I think we have a mixture right now and that should change real fast. I think opening weekend you find the does and there will be a buck right behind them. GL
  12. Expect anything at anytime no matter how dire it looks! Killed some big buck (missed some also) where and when I never thought I'd shoot one.
  13. I once hit a big buck in the liver, takes a while for them to die. Let's do it again Saturday!
  14. Great pictures! That is one nice buck, was it gut shot?
  15. Take care of yourself first. You'll get one at ML season!
  16. Fletch, I hope you find him. The hunt sounded real exciting, you can't beat bow season! I think you will find him, positive thinking and when your ready to give up start all over again. The spot you have said to yourself over and over again "he would never go that way" give it a shot. Good luck.
