That rack is so interesting, the story is amazing also. It's funny how she ended up so close to you in the end and in an "freaky" way.

New York Sportmens Outdoor Expo - Nassau Coliseum
First-light replied to Geno C's topic in NY Hunting Calendar / Events
I'll go to the show but it seems it's the same stuff year after year. Not what I call a high quality show but a good way to meet up with fellow sportsman and maybe find a bargain. Rich has a nice booth and is usually doing a mount at the booth. -

I'm with ya, good work shooter-people just love putting down the guy even before the work starts. -
Had one by my camp this year. I would of shot it if it came by. My neighbor has a full body mount of a piebald he got years ago, house never burnt down and shoots a deer every year!

Actually those bunnies were caught taking a nap after a meat eating feast! That poor deer didn't stand a chance! They go right for the neck! -
I have some family in Massena, small world, eh?

Do you wear Orange? If so why? If not Why not? :)
First-light replied to TheHunter's topic in General Hunting
No I didn't say I was against crossbows in bow season and hearing a shot for most of us puts us on alert and we are more likely to react better. It's kind of like driving for hours at 75 mph and you see a trooper up ahead and slow down ( do the right thing, your alerted to the situation) that's what I mean. I'm thinking safety- we are on a forum to share our thoughts. -
The couple from washington are a riot. Check out some of the video on the news.

Maybe so but he is only 15 and has alot to learn. We were all 15 at one time (some still are) as adults we should know what it's all about. It's one deer out of many and you will learn you can't stop it, yes it's a shame the deer went to waste but it happens everywhere. I just posted one that was found right by me that was a nice 10 pt. There are so many factors that can go into this scenario, you just don't know. Oh, Robinson446 I like you dedication and enthusiasm for the sport. I have been taking a kid for the last two years (he's your age) and it really pumps me up to see such young individuals so into hunting. Wish there were more of you.

Some of the events have happened in the past, especially with the fish kill. -

I did fletch, they all say Bubba on them! Great picture! Some info on it! NOTE: In the Adirondack Chronology there is a mention of a moose being shot at Saranac Lake in 1965 and entered in the Trudeau Big Buck Contest. The writers were taken in by a prank in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise perpetuated by Bill McLaughlin. Below is a link to that photo of Bob Liddy with a moose he shot in Canada!

Buck found in a field right by my property.
First-light replied to First-light's topic in Deer Hunting
Yes sir! Yea you couldn't tell with what was left on the deer. I know of one wounded buck about his size that was never found, it was tracked in the total opposite direction though. -
Another one that went off and died. Found right in the middle of a field, too bad he looked real nice. Broken off one side. Good rabbit hunting by me, boys did this in a couple of hours.

Blaze orange is totally your choice. I make sure the other guy can see me. I'm still not sure (even with some of the posts from you guys) that a crossbow isn't as powerful as a bow. I'll give you a scenario that may bring light to wearing blaze orange while bow hunting. At gun season you hear the shot. At bow season you don't. If I hear a shot I know someone is in the vicinity and my awareness go up. Let's just say crossbows are introduced into bow season. You shoot a deer and gutting it out, there is a crossbow hunter 60 yards away. He never heard the shot but can see something going on by the edge of the field. He sees a deer moving, sets up on it and shoots. You are gutting the deer in full camo and blend in to the surroundings. Sounds really far fetched, some of you guys may think I'm nuts. The common thing here is distance, "If" (I still have to research this) the crossbow can shoot further than a bow this could scenario could happen. What are the odds? What were the odds of that little boy being shot by his own hunting party? Again, I'm not an alarmist nor am I against crossbows, I just think if a weapon is introduced into bow season that is much more powerful, you may want to take precautions. Just my thoughts, this is a blaze orange thread. -

Same thing could happen if you shot a deer with your bow while it was next to a house. Yea, the article doesn't tell you how close the house was. Although most pass thru shots with the bow don't go very far. My experience is about 10-15 feet. Not trying to be an alarmist, need to learn more about the crossbow. -
Thanks-good info!

Let's face it, if I were to set out in the morning to track a buck it probably would take me over a few neighbors property. I would be trespassing. That shouldn't stop me if I really wanted to try it there are big enough tracks of state land around.
