  1. First few years will usually shoot anything that comes by. Gets real excited at the sight of a deer, "buck fever can set in" ENJOYING every aspect about the hunting experience. Once he gets a taste of "Bone" (8pt or better) he becomes a trophy hunter. Passing on does and small bucks. Late in the season he may take a doe for meat. AR topic comes up and he truly believes in the mindset to let the smaller bucks walk. Hunting becomes an obsession, trying to kill a big buck. Years are spent chasing the trophy. A few years may go by and the "bone collector" goes dry. He starts to have second thoughts about AR. Itchy finger starts to set in a he surprises his buddies by shooting a small buck first week of season. Feels good again to harvest a buck. As time goes by he shoots a buck almost every year with a few good ones mixed in. He says to himself, now in his 40's, this isn't bad it's like when I first started hunting, I'm really "ENJOYING" the experience. We go "full circle in life" this is just a part of it. AR or not, just ENJOY the experience! Take a kid along while you at it.
  2. I think we need a "beer summit" and put our differences aside.
  3. I did the same thing about 7 years ago. We call ourselves Team Legend. I made a full length movie in Final Cut Pro of all of our hunting adventures. Never got a website going. We hunt out of Schuyler and Steuben counties. What does it take to join you team?
  4. Nice website you guys have going. I really like it. What area do you guys hunt?
  5. I remember seeing deer like that one on a show once. They said it was some sort of cyst that grows abnormally large on the deer. Some live with the cyst for years until it becomes too uncomfortable.
  6. Probably the best trail cam picks I have seen. Tells it all. It wasn't too long ago we all thought a spike is a spike and won't get any bigger.
  7. I'm in the publishing business and this magazine has good layout, great photos and the stories are excellent. It is not a hunting magazine but a tool to pass along the past, present and future outdoor experiences in N.Y.S. I make sure I pass it along to member of our younger generation. I get a subscription buying a legacy license.
  8. Well we always talked about a late season food and my neighbor who has been there for years said pumpkins are great. The deer really eat them up late season. It also will be cool for my girls to bring a couple home. I'll keep you posted on how they do.
  9. 54 acres 34 in the Ag program, 800 square foot cabin. 754 bucks. Steuben county
  10. Yes it did. Got me togo out and buy a new one.
  11. Sounds interesting. I always see deer hanging around Turkey. My Father-in-law swears by it. I might give it a try.
  12. Just bought my Legacy license. Applied for two DMP's for 8P and got 1. My brother also got 1 so we are in good shape.
  13. Heard the same stories years ago about Coydogs and Cornell University.
  14. Not really, when I moved back 20 years ago I put my bow in a soft case in the back of the pickup. Well after heading on to the highway the air catches the bow and out it flies. It gets run over by a semi. Roadkill no doubt, it was in a million pieces!!!!!!
  15. Yes they are. Would like to see the Chicory gain a bit on the others. I had a good time putting them in, even had my two daughters helping out. It will be cool when I bring them back to camp in a month to see the expression on their faces when they see what's growing. (I threw some pumpkin seed in with the turnips)
  16. A close-up picture of my bear pole taken this weekend. He is tearing it up!
  17. That's the area that the roadkill pig was around.
  18. Photo - tall tine tubers, turnips Phot1 Chicory Photo2 Throw and grow All coming up fine except for the Chicory???? Hmm
  19. That's what the sucker looked like.
  20. If you get the bags with the powder in it I believe you can throw out the bag in any garbage disposal. I went through the same thing at my camp three years ago, pretty funny craping in the bucket. You will get some funny stories for sure!
  21. I don't. I had interest in a 50 acre parcel in Burdett N.Y. that he kept me up-to-date about but I never leased. He was really nice and straight forward kind of guy. I own my own property now so I haven't talked to him in a while.
  22. So how many of you find this post offensive to our African American fellow hunters?? Don't shoot me, just asking.
  23. Sorry no picts. Was what I expected to see size wise. I would say 100lbs. Dark colored nasty looking. Wild Hogs!
