Cool picture that's some comparison.
-
I was up there and remember that it was way too cool. I actually spent so much time looking at the picts my dinner party thought I lost on the grounds. Lot of nice deer in there also, I believe you can hunt it, no?
-
Glad it's back, good way to spend a Sunday.
-
impressive, that's all I have to say!
-
That should be good, we did that a few years ago and everything in the woods was munching on it.
-
Well looking backwards what about Sunday hunting that was outlawed years ago. We all didn't have to deal with this but the western counties did. We all too easily forget about that. Did it influence deer take, I don't know do you? It did cut down four days of hunting out of the season. Any thoughts about that? It was a shorter season.

I fish a lot down here on Long Island, and the fishing for the most part sucks! Sure does, too much nitrates going into the water from people trying grow stuff in the poor soil! lol Sad but true, it's really put a damper on the fishing, don't get me wrong we still have our run of great stripper fishing but Blues, Fluke and those poor flounder not like it used to be.

This is what I posted about the original thread on page 13. I'm done.

You guys crack me up. I never said the soil sucked and we can't grow in N.Y. There is different contents and amounts of minerals in the soil that help promote antler growth. In no way did I say the soil sucks, the soil on my farm produces over and over year after year. Lets think twice before twisting words, thanks.
-
Right you are Joe. Good soil and soil supplements.
-
Hell Bubba we all know NY can grow crops but the soil content does not compare as the big agricultural states. They have more trace minerals and calcium and phosphorus in the soil. Hell my place is smack dab in the middle of Steuben county, farms as far as you cane see.
-
In a way I agree with that.. nobody is knocking down NY's door to come hunting here. Many states have more to offer and get far more non-resident revenue because of it. Could be just the thing to boost revenues in NY by making it more attractive to hunt bigger bucks here. Not sure that we have the available hunting land like other states, but maybe Joe, The flora in NY does not promote the growth of big bucks. NY is not an agricultural state. The soil for the most part is poor. The food plot craze and QDM rhetoric only works in limited situations. Very true, NY soil does not hold the mineral content as other rich agricultural states do. I've been preaching this for years but no one believes it. It's a common denominator in growing huge bucks.

I like that! -
Stress during deer hunting, you want to see stress, put the 1 buck rule in per season. Then you will see stress!
-
Blur, Yes I know a second shot was needed to dispatch the deer. If you wanted to save all the meat the head was the perfect place. But to video tape it in such a disrespectful manor is outrageous. I for one would not be associated with these individuals. The game I choose to hunt gets respect living and when dead, these jerks deserve no respect.

They would love that on antique road trips! Brings in big money for all that documentation! Great mount!

If you want me to agree to AR's I won't. If you want me to agree to a longer bow season (Oct 1st ) OK. If you want me to agree to let xbows into the deer seasons OK. 1st two weeks of bow (Oct1-15) and all of gun season and Muzzleloader season. If you want me to agree to shorten the gun season OK. 3 week season followed by two weeks of Muzzleloader and xbow. I feel the seasons are just about right, but there needs to be some type of give and take with the xbow. Giving the bow hunters and extra 2 weeks and letting in xbows for the 1st two weeks would do it for me. The biggest problem I see is losing the week for the gun hunters. For me it's not a big deal, break out the smokepole. I don't think this will lesson the stress on the deer, the last two weeks of season may be real nice way to end the year.

How's the coffee this morning gentlemen?

Gave up my boat for the cabin and property. It was a good choice, I think yours is too.

My Father-in-law insists that there was a great big buck up by Indian lake that they nicknamed Wooly. It was a long time ago but he said that buck could give you the slip, here today gone tomorrow. His best story was when Wooly jumped clear over the hood of the truck they were driving into hunting camp. Half the guys didn't want to get out to hunt! You are a legend!
-
Wooly is the grand master of the shed antler. He finds them in spots that you never think to look! Some say he was a great 12 point of the northern woods years ago, legend has it! Just look at his birthday cake, he is hiding in the brush while the small bucks get taken. Don't you think his sister knows something?

Paulie, Give me a call and we'll do a tag team on her. Burt -
My 6 year old was sitting on my lap at the computer and said Daddy let's watch some deer hunting videos. I did a search on You Tube and this video came up. I did not let her watch what these two idiots were about to film. This is why we get a bad name out there. I know some of you will say, well they had to put the deer down. But to video tape it in such a barbaric way. This goes too far as I'm concerned, if you want to associate with this video go ahead but you won't be welcomed in my deer camp, period.

It sure does, that's no lie. I also would like to point out that our group "Hunting NY" probably has the safest bunch of gun owners around. I say this because we have a passion about guns and hunting. They go hand and hand. Unfortunately we get associated with the careless individuals that give gun owners a bad name. I respect the individuals on this board that need to have a gun accessible to them in there home, I do not. Muzzyloader my thoughts are with you, I'm sure this is a difficult subject.
