Just curious here: All of NY State Carriers. yay or nay?
First-light replied to Geno C's topic in General Chit Chat
I justed watched on Anderson Cooper a brutal killing in New Mexico that was never solved. Execution style 2 kids and 4 adults. The kids were 2 and 9. They got away with 6 grand. Does New Mexico have a policy? I thought about this after the Arizona shooting and they carry. I didn't help because it happened so quick. There was this one guy who was going to pull his gun but the threat was no longer there. What happens if you are in that situation and you and the bad guys have your guns pulled and the cops show up. You being the good guy could be shot by the cops. It's a tough one but I think the permit process is good. Just some thoughts......... -
Gas Drilling on State Forest land?????
First-light replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
We all have to worry about all the drinking water. What alot of you guys don't talk about is the changing landscape that comes with oil-gas drilling. Rents will skyrocket locals will be displaced who rent, towns will be crowded, water extracted from your streams and lakes, roads widened, noise level 24/7 will increase, transient workers in your towns. And yes DEC has to monitor all of this and the local water supply. It does come down to the all mighty dollar and I can't blame anyone who can get a deal to set them up for life. As far as I'm concerned you better weigh the pros and cons carefully. What better way to get NYS revenue then to let Horizontal fracking take place in NY. Yes NYS land will be the first to be drilled upon. Look for gas to be over 100 bucks per barrel this summer. The price of Natural gas will climb and there you have the equation. There is nothing we can do to keep oil prices down with the emerging economies in this world. They will drive the price of oil. Alternative energy is the only way, this includes nat gas, solar, wind, clean coal and nuclear. -
State Land Deer Hunting/The Best and The Worst
First-light replied to wztirem's topic in Deer Hunting
We used to hunt the state land off of Morton Hill road in Roscoe. I took a doe and a 5 pt in many years hunting there. Heavy pressure the first two weeks then just the die hards. There is over 15,000 acres around that area some places you can get lost. Well one year I go up and there are these two guys from Pa near where I hunt. They have a giant 10 pt and a decent six pt in the bed of the truck. I was amazed and stopped to talk with them. We did the typical chit chat and I congratulated them. I had to ask what was there secret to success? They told me they would go in far, just about the limits of the normal hunter and set up camp there. From this point they would hump it in even further to places most guys would not venture. He told me the big deer was shot on a ridge browsing in the middle of the day. This is where your deer vanish to. -

Jordan, I give you credit for standing up for what you believe in. You are 15 and posted your essay for the whole world to see. When I was 15 my mother or father were the only ones to review an essay that I wrote before I handed it in. I'm not saying posting it here was a bad thing but think twice or maybe three times before hitting that send button. Are your parents OK with you sharing it here? I hope they got a chance to read it and give you feedback. I don't think you had to apologize for your posting, you showed some character!

That's what is so amazing here, a 15 year old gets to share his essay with all of us prior to handing it in. Think about that.................Hmm.

That is great wishing you and your family all the best! What name did they give the baby?
-
If you look back on the thread I gave him some good choices, using the word great in front of UT name didn't fit.

DOING A CONTROVERSAL ESSAY FOR ENGLISH CLASS
First-light replied to Robinson446's topic in General Chit Chat
Robinson, Maybe instead of quoting Uncle Ted, use a few of these: Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. Ben Franklin Little more can reasonably be aimed at, with respect to the people at large, than to have them properly armed and equipped. Alexander Hamilton The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government. Thomas Jefferson I think you'll get more bang for your buck out of these quotes. -
Good laughs-he is a goofball!

Hunting jokes. Lets hear them boys. (and girls)
First-light replied to Robinson446's topic in General Chit Chat
What the doe say when she came out of the woods? I'll never do again that for two bucks! What's a deer with no eyes? No idea! What's a deer with no eyes and no dick? No fawking idea! -
I've been in a couple through the years. I won 1 contest years ago. I never though about it ethically just some added coin if you get the big one. The y also paid for biggest doe and smallest buck. Now the smallest buck thing could raise some eyebrows.

try this ;D ;D 3 cups diced peeled turnips 1/4 cup water 1 cube chicken bouillon 1 tablespoon butter, or more as needed 2 tablespoons white sugar Directions Place the turnips into a skillet with the water and chicken bouillon cube over medium heat, and simmer until the water has evaporated and the turnips are tender, about 15 minutes. Stir in the butter, let melt, and sprinkle on the sugar. Gently cook and stir the turnips until the butter and sugar cook into a brown, sticky coating on the turnips, about 10 minutes. Serve hot. That is funny! Thanks for making me laugh, it's good medicine!
