  1. Guys, I have this barrel in my gun case along with the chokes. Lent the gun to someone years ago and never got it back. I have no use for it so if anyone has a Mossberg that needs this barrel its yours free. Just pay the shipping. Burt
  2. Yes sir! Yea you couldn't tell with what was left on the deer. I know of one wounded buck about his size that was never found, it was tracked in the total opposite direction though.
  3. Another one that went off and died. Found right in the middle of a field, too bad he looked real nice. Broken off one side. Good rabbit hunting by me, boys did this in a couple of hours.
  4. Blaze orange is totally your choice. I make sure the other guy can see me. I'm still not sure (even with some of the posts from you guys) that a crossbow isn't as powerful as a bow. I'll give you a scenario that may bring light to wearing blaze orange while bow hunting. At gun season you hear the shot. At bow season you don't. If I hear a shot I know someone is in the vicinity and my awareness go up. Let's just say crossbows are introduced into bow season. You shoot a deer and gutting it out, there is a crossbow hunter 60 yards away. He never heard the shot but can see something going on by the edge of the field. He sees a deer moving, sets up on it and shoots. You are gutting the deer in full camo and blend in to the surroundings. Sounds really far fetched, some of you guys may think I'm nuts. The common thing here is distance, "If" (I still have to research this) the crossbow can shoot further than a bow this could scenario could happen. What are the odds? What were the odds of that little boy being shot by his own hunting party? Again, I'm not an alarmist nor am I against crossbows, I just think if a weapon is introduced into bow season that is much more powerful, you may want to take precautions. Just my thoughts, this is a blaze orange thread.
  5. Same thing could happen if you shot a deer with your bow while it was next to a house. Yea, the article doesn't tell you how close the house was. Although most pass thru shots with the bow don't go very far. My experience is about 10-15 feet. Not trying to be an alarmist, need to learn more about the crossbow.
  6. Let's face it, if I were to set out in the morning to track a buck it probably would take me over a few neighbors property. I would be trespassing. That shouldn't stop me if I really wanted to try it there are big enough tracks of state land around.
  7. Those Coues deer are funny looking and small just like the jackalope you got out there! Only kidding welcome aboard!
  8. Not any more, I would of loved showing my kids.
  9. Remember over at Hecksher park when they feed the deer. People lined up to see that.
  10. Hey that river looks pretty big. Any problems in the past on it rising too high? You guys are putting alot of sweat into that camp, hate to see anything happen.
  11. Damn good on a range....i couldn't pull it off....and I would need a metal detector to practice it...lol....to find the misses Me too, that's funny!
  12. For 100 yards I thought it was pretty good.
  13. Limit to 40 yards, never killed a deer over 25. Never shot a crossbow.
  14. Thanks Culv, bet you can tack on 20 yards these days.
  15. What is the furthest range can you kill a deer with a crossbow? Ethically-please.
  16. Crossbows typically have the same or less range then a bow. With all this fear I'm reading about I say cancel the whole hunting and fishing thing or require full body armour from head to toe make it a one day season and you must pay a gov't official to sit by you and approve of your shot. Anyone fishing on a boat or off of shore should have to have water wings, a life jacket, a horn, and life guard must be on duty. Trappers can longer use traps that may harm humans that may step in them instead they must use a noose but provide a safety release in case a human gets snared. Cancel turkey without a doubt. SHHH did you hear that? I think I heard a branch fall outside. New rule whenever outdoors must wear a hard hat!!!! I thought they could shoot 100 yards? The distance thing was a problem with me if it were true. We all have our safety tolerances, I want to be absolutely sure to take precautions when I know there is another person around with a weapon that could kill me or anyone else on my property.
  17. Did you just get your tax bill? Love to see him stick to his guns and not raise any more property taxes. I don't think he making a mockery out of his religion, who died and left you Pope?? Let it play out, give the guy a chance. The man has his girlfriend living with him and his daughters. Talk about a bad example. How did he ever get custody of his daughters anyway? What man in NY state ever gets custody of his kids? Unless one is politically connected, the odds are slim, and the fight is very expensive. Yeah, I did get my tax bill last week and of course it went up. Always does. And with a tax and spend liberal in the Governors office, I expect taxes to get worse. And don't even get started on gun control with this guy. I see he went to church over the weekend with his daughters and his girlfriend. If he went to communion he committed a mortal sin according to the Catholic Church. Supporting gay marriage and abortion is also against his church. Doesn't seem to matter to him who the Pope is or what he says, he does whatever he wants to. Why not just drop out of the church then and stop giving Catholics a bad image? Remember, this guy was also a member of the Clinton administration in Washington. He's had plenty of chances as a public official. He proved his character many times over in the past, and a leopard doesn't change it's spots! MVJP, I'm a Catholic, don't you think the Catholic church has done its own part about making a mockery out of the religion. We all live in glass houses don't we.
  18. I don't know if this fits in here but I was thinking about the crossbow and safety. If the crossbow was allowed in bow season would you feel uncomfortable walking around in full camo? There is a story in Outdoor news about a bolt going through a deer and lodging itself in the side of a house. Don't these things shoot 100 yards? I have questions about whole safety factor here "if" they were allowed in Bow season. Any thoughts?
  19. MM, You have anyone looking out for your property when your not there? If I'm correct your from the Island? So am I but I am very tight with my neighbor by my camp and he does a great job looking out for my place.
  20. That sucks, why can't we just respect each others property.
