I wanted some apple trees this year, this looks good. Do you have them shipped or do you pick up? -

What is the royalty fee? Is that the cost per tree? -
Anyone order trees for spring?
First-light replied to SplitG2's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
FYI, I live 6 hrs from my camp. In the past if the order came to my house and I wasn't going up for a while I took cheap window boxes from Home Depot and planted the seedlings in some real nice dirt. They did real well. One year I got the order in the spring and waited till the fall to plant, boy did they really start to take off after a few months. The back of my Tahoe looked like a jungle when I brought them up. Your biggest concern should be while planting. Try not to let them dry out, it takes a while to plant hundreds of trees. Pick a cloudy day also. Anyone else have any tips they would like to share? -

Gas drilling (fracting) and your hunting property

Some good articles in the current issue of NYON. Gas drilling in NY, you decide. http://outdoornews.com/new_york/ -
Great pictures!

I've posted these before, here they are for people that didn't seen them. We have a good bear population in my area 8P. They can and will cause some serious damage to your property if the have a good food source and den area. They love this pole and only this one. They will snap a 6 foot pine tree in half and let the sap run and come back eat what's there. I don't know what these berry trees are called (choke berries) but they take the whole tree down and eat the berries. If you got corn and bears you will find crop circles in the field. They love corn! Nice to watch but I feel uncomfortable walking around especially with my girls, the gun comes with us.

Three seasons ago opening day my brother couldn't get rid of Sow and two cubs. They hung around his stand for about an hour and I could hear him yelling at the bears. I walked over to him and actually had a cub 30 yards from me and the mother was behind it another 20 yards off. She did nothing, they were more interested in eating the corn! It was getting dark and they still wouldn't leave so I shot my gun up in the air and called in for an extraction from the hostile area. By the time the quad came to pick us up they had moved into the corn.

Great looking deer! Looks like you hit him a bit back, did you have to track?

On LI we have no place to put any more snow! Getting 4-6 inces of snow tomorrow and a 1/2 inch of ice. This one is going to be real bad. I take the LIRR into Manhattan and it has sucked this year. Once that third rail ices up your screwed. Spent 5 hrs stranded one day because of this. Wednesday will be a WFH day.

Thoughts on the value of a sanctuary...
First-light replied to G-Man's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Next to my property there are some huge pines that are really thick. The deer and the bear love it because you can only hunt the cuts through the property. It is real important that you have something like this near your property. To take it one step further an outfitter in Ohio I know creates doe sanctuaries. These areas are so thick that the big boys can't get through to harass the does. Mainly consist of blow downs stacked on top of each other. He says it keeps the big bucks hanging around waiting for the does to come out. Seems odd but he says it works, to what extent I don't know. -
Welcome, you'll enjoy this site.

Nice racks, great job!

I do that all the time. People die in these collisions, could you imagine no deer season?

18 bucks for 30 hunters!

Well I know one thing, that animal would tear you to pieces in a second! One thing I have to say, we talk about proof and maybe some trail camera picts. How often do we have trail camera picts of Bobcats? Some of us do get pictures of them but the percentages are very low. So compare the population of the Bobcat in NY and a few mountain lions, I would think you wouldn't have a picture as proof of their existence. http://www.dec.ny.gov/pubs/42763.html

Looks like the NRA can lose.
First-light replied to jimbodwb's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Honestly, I've been following some of these posts lately that have turned into down right political battles. This goes nowhere it's like a dog chasing its tail. I give credit to those Dem's that post on this site. We know it is loaded with conservatives. I myself am a democrat and wish not on a hunting site debate my fellow hunters on their political agenda. In the end (like a title of another post "aren't we all Americans") aren't we all hunters? -
Yikes, that is one crazy situation.

What she expect them to kiss each other? I just don't get why that lady put that video out there, she looks so dumb.
