  1. I have no Idea but Ive seen your youtube hunts. Great job on the videos Ive enjoyed each one of them. If your not the same "TheFieldArcher" then disregard
  2. The reg book says you can use a crossbow for deer and bear.... no turkey?? is that true
  3. Thanks. Yea I have been practicing with this stand and plan to continue to do so through this summer. Gonna try it on a bunch of different trees. Thanks for the advise!
  4. So I am new to climber stands just bought a Gorilla Expedition climber a few weeks ago and just wanted to know what is a good height to go up the tree?? I have a friend that goes up 30 feet so he says.. that seems too high for me
  5. congrats on your permit. My county judge doesnt give concealed carry permits out. The only time he does is if you are a business owner. I have my eye on one of 3 pistols, I want to use for home protection of course but mainly I want to be able to shoot in tactical matches. The 3 I like are Sig Sauer p250 full size, Glock 19 and Smith and Wesson M&P9 pro series. However I havnt shot any of these before, and the shops with ranges around me do not rent guns to use.... any suggestions?? I want to be able to shoot quickly so I am not sure sig p250 will be able to do that
  6. i think That having a set few days for youth deer hunting is a great Idea. The youth is the future of the hunting sport, if adults can properly teach the youth with out pressure of other adult hunters than that would only help make them better, more responsible hunters who properly understand the word "safety" However this should not take place in archery season.
  7. I have always stuck with big game hunting, but am considering expanding my horizons and trying small game specifically squirrels. I want to use my air rifle it shoots standard .177 pellets. Is that a good size to use or is the .22 better off
  8. Summit Viper SS climber = awesome!!
  9. Great thanks for the replies. Thumbs down for that much distance thou
  10. Does anyone know off hand what the NYS law is on distance to shoot or hunt near a building or dwelling for bow and or crossbow? I know rifle and shotgun is 500 feet.
  11. fasteddie yes you are reading right. I lost just enough vision that it effects my vision thru the aperature. The light captured is not enough.to compensate for the vision loss. Prior to vision loss I was fine with it. I am not legally blind, just for those who might want to comment and question why am I shooting firearms. Scopes allow plenty of light in and I have a 3 dot reddot scope on the crossbow as well
  12. I agree with the above post before my first one. If everyone remebers compund bows when first intriduced was in the catagory that xbows are in now. Eventually NY move the use of compund bow to bow season. After a few years it was forgotten and this is what is now concidered normal. I believe xbows will be moved into bow season eventually. Our neighbors (New Jersey) have already done this for xbow use during bow season
  13. I have been hunting for a few years now shotgun rifle and my compund bow. Unfortunatly for me I also have eye problems which caused loss of sight Im only 27 yrs old. I have switched out the apature sight in my compound to the largest opening I could find but still no luck. I sold my compound and purchased a xbow looking fiorward to the upcoming season.I understand the concerns of vbow archers and cant say i agree nor disagree. Regular season opens and people flood the areas hunting mainly public land. Which would definately happen more if xbow goes into normal bow season.. I think this is more of a conern for the people who hunt NYS Public land. Private land owners have the control to regulate the amount of people that have access. There will be some New , inexperienced hunters with xbow but hopefully the Hunter safety programs that are in place will work. I feel NYS should require a xbow safety course instead of signing the paper and tearing it out of the regulations magazine. We all had to take a bow course and hunter course for shotgun, rifle and pistol so why not Xbow?
  14. wow nice deers! wish I had something to post. I got kicked out of my one spot during the end of bow season so i couldnt go back during gun. these people screw with my car and leaving notes and writing down my license plate # they just put posted signs right on the tree where i sit. what a nightmare... I have a few spots that have always been good but they are an hour commute for me since I moved.now I have to find a new spot. anyone know of any areas in Monroe NY area?
  15. I have been trying to get 3H DMP's for the past few years. I know they give those out... anyone ever have luck getting that zone before or 3J they both border each other
  16. you dont even neeed the online certificate there is a certificate in the hunting reg magazine you get from where ever you get your tafgs from in there is a certificate you sign and date but you have to carry this with you while crossbow hunting along with your bow license. I am looking at it right now its on page 12 of the NYS hunting and trapping guide to Laws and regulations for 2011-2012
  17. I use to work with a wildlife rehabilitator a few years back, and people bring in fawns all the time when their mothers get hit by a car. The fawns have the ability to survive without the adults by the time their spots are gone. By that point they have learned all the basic things they need to survive. Also as one of the other members mentioned by the time the rut comes the doe's kick the fawns out to by on their own
