  1. well yea that makes sense if there is a deer crossing sign they will cross at that spot. move the sign and the deer will cross where the sign is moved to... I had to read that post a few times...I thought it was just me not getting enough sleep......
  2. I have been hunting for a few years and Have taken many doe. I have only taken 1 spike and am waiting on that swamp donkey to cross my path. The last 3 seasons I havnt taken anything at all. It is very frustrating however I will never give up. I love the sport way too much. I usually have multiple opportunities to take a doe but usually save them till the end of the season. Last season I passed on what I thought was a spike chasing a doe, as he was runnign toward me i was aiming through my scope and saw only 1 point on one side. so I figured it was a spike. and passed on it. 30 seconds after he ran past me my brother in law shot him and as my luck would have it. he was a 5 point. 3 small points on one side and the side i saw had 1 large point and 1 very small point you could only really make out if you were 2 feet from it....... This season I have a few new spots that are readyt for me to come in and harvest however I now have a new born and since I dont go into work untill 3pm I will be the babysitter. My wife leaves the house by 7am so I dont really know how this season will turn out. I really like hunting during the week when everyone else is at work.
  3. I enjoy sitting outside and watching the woods come alive in the wee early hours of the morning. I enjoy spending time with my friends and I look forward to passing my knowledge down to my son and watch him grow into a responsible hunter.I seleced all options to vote for, although. the option "if its brown its down" That one can make me look immature and irresponsible so let me explain real quick. I enjoy a mature buck, who doesnt, but I also enjoy taking mature doe. I try my best and pick out the biggest (most mature) deer of the herd. if i have that chance. Even though many people will take a fawn, I let them pass and give them a chance to grow, learn, and reproduce. So I do not just shoot anything that may be infront of me. We ALL get excited when any size or sex deer walk in front of us Sizeing them up to try and determine the age and decide to let them pass or shoot defines you as a person and hunter.. Happy hunting!!.
  4. thats unfortunate however if that calf died a few hours later then even if the farmer did give her some grain hay or something she still probably wouild have passed. She may have been malnurished for a while or something elese could have been wrong. There are a lot of unforseen variables that could have happened. You did the right thing by going to the farmer. I work at a vets office and I see it all the time where someone brings in a malnurished cat dog etc.. and no matter what you do its sometimes too late, even if the animal eats all the food you put out. dont beat your self up over it.
  5. well the more they breed the more state funding they get per child..... and we pay for it
  6. I talked to a guy from a ocal pest company and he said that since we had a mild warm winter the ticks just multiplied ten fold. usually the cold kills off the "herd" during the winter enough to control the population during the warmer months. Hopefully next winter will be colder... for all our jewels sake
  7. So my wife and I are New Parents and this will be her first mothers day. As part of her gift on sunday she wants me to not talk about hunting or guns for 24 hours!!! When I'm sleeping its easy but while I'm awake,, yikes idk if i I can do that. It's way to hard and I will get a headache trying not to talk about both but thinking about it. Oh well it's only one day.....
  8. i like the 3 some of deer and the first turkey pic the best
  9. I dont know if it was moved but before the upgrade there was the "settings" on the top header and once you move the mouse on that the selections would go down and allow you to view your recent post. Has that option been moved or removed?
  10. not too bad prices but ive seen them lower. Example. dicks sells the barnett jackel for 270$ i believe. Amazon.com also sells it for around 270
  11. Our nation was created with political propoganda cartoons. some violent, some non-violent, what Neugent said at that NRA meeting about cutting the President head off was political VERBAL propoganda. politically incorrect absolutly but had he worded it differently and not so direct it would not have been such an issue
  12. I agree with Scot, Nugent doesnt have the perfect track record... when it comes to hunting he really hurt his fellow hunters with the game law infractions, he is now labeled as a Poacher in the eyes of animal right people and when he agrues that term, those animal right people turn around and label the rest of us law abiding citizens as poachers or "gun nuts" as well. He should have known the game laws for where he was hunting. Sure people make mistakes but when you have that many people on your payroll all producing your show, somebody sure as hell knew but just didnt speak up. He does speak his mind which is respectable. Not alot of people do that now adays. There is always going to be someone that people dont like because they are not afraid of what others think. Alot of people dont like Obama and what he stands for and thats their opinion and right to. I do not feel that the secret service should have or should have been ordered to get involved with Nugent speaking what he feels. If he was a threat to the Presidents life then yes by all means get involved, but I dont think Nugent would do anything to physically harm the president, just his pride
  13. well i called uo H&R for the second time asking if they recommend a grain and brand of ammo for deer and for good groupings and this guy told me for the survivor .308 to shoot ammo 165 grain and up because the 150 was too light. this would jelp with accuracy. the first time i called them a few months back they said 150 grain.
  14. my buddy has the H&R ultra hunter rifle .308 my rifle and his are virtually the same all inner workings and parts are the same except my havea bull barrel and my barrel is 2 inches shorter than his. we use the same winchester ammo and he is getting shots going through the same hole or close to it. I was just looking at the Savage 11 11FL .308 left handed. anyone know how the savage shoots?
  15. I am recently bought a H&R(NEF) Survivor rifle in .308 win. For deer . I am trying to figure out the type of ammo the gun shoots the best with. I know the best way is to try out a bunch of ammos but that can get real expensive and money is tight hense buying the H&R. I personally like H&R especially the Ultra slug deluxe. anyway.. I have tried Remington core lokt in 150 grain and the shots were all over the paper at 100. No groupings what so ever. I also tried Winchester power point 150 grain and I now have some type of groupings at 100. however I still want them to be tighter. Does anyone have experience with this type of rifle? or maybe have any suggestions on how to find better grouping.. higher grain, lower grain etc... Brand?
  16. well the decoy's i guess are better then i thought they would be. I bought them from wallmart a few years back. you have to blow them up like a pool float. not good if I shoot too close to them with my shotgun....
  17. i think the site is awesome. Easy to use and navigate. I have tried other fourm sites and they all stunk. this one is by far the best
  18. well i think i might do that this year during late muzzleloader season with my crossbow. I dont think the deer would give to sh*** about the decoy's during the rut
  19. lol yes cabin fever that might be a great idea to use the turkey decoys in deer season. I think you are alllowed to use decoys for deer right?? might take some attention of us. although during the rut they dont care about us anyways. So late bow and muzzleloader it might work
  20. here is a picture also of 2 of the 3 deer. The first one looks very thin and her coat isnt very good. We had a very mild winter so I figured they would have been able to find food better. you cant tell in this picture but I was able to count her ribs....from 20 - 25 feet
  21. I was out turkey hunting the other day and 3 doe come within 20 feet of our ground blind. They were very courious about my turkey decoys. here is some video. You can here my Tom in the distance in the beggining of the video. I wound up not getting the tom, the 3 deers walked off in the area where the tom was roosting, and spooked him off the tree. He then ended up behind us about 30 yards in the brush, which we didnt know. He stopped gobbling and responding to us after he got spooked. So we waited until about 11:30 with hearing or seeing any activity and no response from my calls. We decided to pack up and leave and as we walked about 20 feet from out blind the Tom was right the laying behind some brush. I dropped some equipment as fast as I could so I could try to squeeze off a shot but he flew away..... I figure I would give him a few days to settle down before I go back to that area and hunt for him. Hopefully he will come back. There is a big food source where he was..... oh well I thought the video was interesting My phone only took aboiut 30 seconds. The doe's get much much closer to the decoy's almost sniffing them after this video ends... Good luck to everyone elsedeer turkey hunting.MOV
  22. I will be at my friends farm in orange county. They have a big flock that is destroying there crop. unfortunetly we can only takes toms or jakes and with a bag limit.... The DEC says the amount of crop destroyed doesnt qualify them for a permit to take out all the turkey year round... so we will have to wait till fall for the females.
  23. I bought mine from Gander Mountain its the Wicked Ridge Warrior. 175LB pull and about 300 FPS this thing is great very very accurate. The company Ten Point owns a sister company called Wicked Ridge. Both wicked Ridge and ten point xbows are made and come out in the same factory
  24. I bought one a few months ago. I sold my compund bow cuz I have a non corrective eye problem that messes up the light with the apature with the bow when in low light conditions. I hope NYS allows use in all seasons with xbow. I am sure they will eventually. NJ did and I think CT did also. I understand the reasoning people have putting the xbow catagorized as a gun since it is always in the cocked position and ready to shoot verses the vertical isnt. I agree with above who cares what you take the animal with....
  25. I understand completely.. Me and my buddy have always hunted set up etc.. together he got married and had a child. we hung out less. then one day we got together and started up seeing more of each other again. I got married and had a child, at the same time my buddy had a second child, his kids DOB was 3 days after mine. He also started a new career as a corrections officer in NYC. so not only do we talk less now but cell contact is also limited due to his job. we also live about an hour apart. I have hunted many times without him, however,,,... twice a year we go up to the hunting camp once in the spring for guys weekend and once in the regular gun season. these trips consist of lots of beer, booze, bullshit, and some hunting. Opening day of gun season we always make it tradition to hunt together. Its perfect for the situations we are currently in..
