  1. Yup, 3A no deer there, move along, nothing to see here. LOL!
  2. Over the past few years my club in 3A took a 9 a 10 and a 5 along with spikes, 3's and such. This year they saw squat. I don't think its a bad thing personally. We usually get what is now a restriction legal deer every other year.
  3. I tried scent bow hunting, no effect. When deer lures were fairly new we used G66 Sour Apple and the deer came in like crazy. Then everyone used it and it was worthless. Then we used Tink's, that worked for a season and then there was so much in the woods a deer would go psycho trying to follow it. Now I don't use anything. I don't even wash my socks.
  4. That's a real good store with the reputation to match.
  5. Matt, nice deer. I haven't seen any of those! Bill
  6. I don't think 3A got any this year...again!
  7. I shot a spike this year and was tickled pink! His horns here curved like fish hooks. All my other spikes were straight. And the next buck I want is a 4-ptr, I've never shot a 4, seen em, missed em but never got one. My father, my brothers and my nephew all have shot 4's with really nice horns or very long tines. Call me a bottom feeder but I actually passed up an old man white muzzled 10 a few years ago because I didn't like the shot at 60 yards with a rifle. Not 100% quick kill and I wouldn't take a guy like that half-assed just for his horns.
  8. I like the last act of defiance..sticking his tongue out. Great deer !
  9. Check my other post called Butcher. Got some replies for Long Island
  10. Wooly, that's where I was Blakeley Road. Plenty of old untended scrapes and rubs. Like you say it died right before the opener.
  11. My brother was riding the back of ours one seaon with my father driving. We bought it because the old man at 80 was having touble walking. Anyway they get back to the shack and there's a doe browsing about 60 yards away. Doe looks at them, my brother gets off puts a shell in the rifle and shoots her. Convinced me & the rest of the guys in our club that the bike doesn't spook the deer all that much.
  12. I helped a guy out opening his tackle shop on weekends for the past 10 odd yeras. This Sept he started retaining huge amounts of water is his legs and me & my friends told him he needed to get to the V.A. He wouldn't go and kept saying it was getting better. Finally we convinced him to go and he was set to get their Monday. I spoke to him last week and were making arrangements for me to watch his golden. Anyway a friend calls me Friday and says he's not answering his phone. Friend went over and sure enough he was dead. Report will most likely be congestive heart faiilure. This is the second time this has happened to someone I know. Moral is when someone that knows yousays you need to get to a hospital ... go! Natural reaction is to downplay it with the 'it's getting better' but it never really is.
  13. Dang, font went whacko. As I Said, HA! You driving deer with it!
  14. I using the same 4-Trax but maybe a year or two newer. Now its just for hauling deer but, when we logged, ours pulled the stuff the logger left and we split it for firewood. Did a lot of treestand hauling too. Real workhorse
  15. Question, has anyone customized the mufflers to get the sound down or are you guys just using the stock muffler. From my experience, I don't think the deer spook much from the sound.
  16. Einstein's theory of relativity. Relative to me, I only get a few days to hunt so its just a snapshot taken from a long season. 1 deer in 3 days, no deer in the fields at night, not particularly good for me. But, I have an idea why. County did road construction right where the deer cross onto the runs I hunt. Construction went for a while. They may have been pushed and established runs elsewhere.
  17. A processor I used upstate near Roscoe pickled them, never had it. He didn't hunt but said so many deer came in without the diaphram cut and cleaned that he got all the hearts he wanted. Hard to believe people didn't know how to dress a deer.
  18. Came out perfect, like pot roast. Even my daughter had one bite and liked it but, hearts are for shooters. I got the rest.
  19. Question on these radishes..farmer planted "turnips" in our food plot late summer. I went up to check it in September and the greens were up nice and the turnips were half dollar sized which is what i expected. But I ate two and instead of tasting like white turnip, they had a good spice to them...like a radish. You think these were turnips or these radishes you speak of?
  20. Wow! That's some reach! When I read the title, I'm thinking 80 yards with my Hawken because that's about as far as I can see where I hunt. I've never even tried to shoot mine at 100 yards to see what it would do. I have to rethink the whole thing and try some different bullets.
  21. I'm 59 and just crossing the cusp into old coot territory. No, don't hunt as much as I used to. Just too much family stuff with kids, grandkids and family obligations. I hunt every day I get, rain, wind, snow, or froze toes, dawn 'til dusk. I walk to my stand but it's a shorter and flatter walk. I hunt regular southern, may do muzzleloader next season. Keep buying the stamp but not getting to go. But I drive 300 miles farther, does that count?
  22. For what its worth, last year after hunting from ladder stands and wood permanent stands for 44 years I took a fall. I have used a commercial construction parachute harness. That's the yellow that I'm wearing in my picture. Our own fault, hunted from a Goriila for years and never had a problem. Bought one of those 16' wide platforms with a seat and when it came time to take it down all hell broke loose. I unclipped the strap around the tree and the stand came away with me on the top step. It was stopped by the midway strap but the ladder started to bend backwards. I held on and hung until it got to the ground and I landed and rolled like a paratrooper. It hurt, went to the clinic for xrays and MRI, nothing broke. I was lucky. Now here is some advice, 1st when we checked the directions, my brother hadn't attached the midway straps in the right location, this stand didn't have hooks to clip to like a Gorilla, you just picked an anchor point. 2nd when you take a stand down throw a line, a long line around the tree at the platform. Hold tension on both strands of that line in one hand to keep the stand against the tree as you climb back down. Hopefully my mistake and lesson learned will save someone else the trouble.

    Rut

Was it short or did it not fully start? Deer were in rut the week before I hunted in 9H. Didn't see much activity while I was there. In 3A the locals told my brother they were in rut for a week and it stopped. Anyone else experience this?
