Deer are migratory, you don't pay property taxes on YOUR deer. It isn't like he logged the property or something. We are not talking a hundred yards are we? We are talking 60 feet. If you are going to make this big of a deal about 60 feet, then I am really glad you are not my neighbor. Just hope when the day comes that you need to access a neighbors property, they don't make a capital case out of it.

I tend to think some people (generally from the city) treat their land like a dog would. They bark at everyone who walks by. Quoting the law doesn't change that. Hey, it is your property and if you want guard it like Fort Knox from your NEIGHBORS, that is your prerogative. We are not talking about huge hunting parties crossing lines, we are talking about one man sitting in a stand on his own property, see's a deer a few feet into the adjacent property and harvests it. Not quite the crime of the century in my book, but to each his own. I think the post by G-Man sums it up. Now you have created bad blood, harassed another persons wife, got the landowner involved in a neighborly dispute and for what? A few pounds of meat, antlers, 20 yards and property line... The amount of time you spent on principle would have probably been better applied in the field hunting IMO..

Sigh..... I dunno.. Is it really such a BIG deal that he went a whole 20 yards into a property you don't even own? It is late, I am full of turkey and not that sharp at the moment, but it sure sounds like you are making a big deal out of nothing. I could understand it if it was perfect strangers but from what I read these are people that own the adjacent property. All of the people who own property next to mine have the right to hunt my property and vice versa. To me, you sound like a jealous hunter who is sore that somebody tagged one instead of you, but that is just me.

How about you only attend ONE night?

The only advice I would give is: take your time. Take plenty of breaks.

Some of the bigger camps around here designate one person in charge of arms when at camp.. When you come into camp you hand over your firearm to him and he unloads it and puts it away. Of course, they have like 20-30 guys there at a time, I am not sure it would work with 4-5 guys at a camp, but perhaps something to look into. When I was 18, my cousin and a friend went hunting. While walking down a dirt state-land road my friends shotgun just went off out of nowhere.. It was facing the ground and nobody was hurt. My cousin went up one side of him and down another about gun safety while his friend swore up and down the safety was on and he didn't touch the trigger.. There were some hard words between the two.. A few minutes later almost the exact same thing happened with my cousins shotgun. He felt stupid. I dunno what was going on with their weapons, but I decided to walk behind them for the rest of the day lol..

I wish I had..... An overhead view of the woods with infrared tracking.. Someday Google Earth will catch up!

This has been happening since guns were invented and it is sad.. I remember my father telling me a story from when he was a kid in the 50's, his best friend was carrying a loaded rifle while walking through the barn. He had it pointing towards the ground and it went off, ricocheted back up and hit him in the neck, dead. It is so very sad. Just remember these stories when you teach your children how to handle guns.

I'd take him for sure..

8 hours today.. Nothing.. I am going to a different property up in Lewis County tomorrow.. I think maybe I have overheated the place..
-
Same thing here, saw one buck in about the same amount of hours and had no clear shot.. I was so frustrated today I left 2 hours before sundown.. I am recuperating and licking my wounds tonight over a couple beers and the xbox and am going to try again tomorrow!
-
I remember those days.. When it gets to you, just grit your teeth, and carry on knowing that you will throw a hellatious beat down on anything that might ever challenge you in the woods.. Trust me, there are more things in your average school that will hurt you than what is in the woods..
-
I saw that one the other day but let it go.. Looking for something bigger... Yeah right.. Nice buck!

I just picked up the "Pack Rack Rattle" at Herbs.. They seem to have some good reviews online.. The fact that it fits in my jacket pocket is a plus. Will let you know if it works.

I hear ya, I think there must a formula on heart rate and proximity to deer. When they get close to me like that my heart just pounds..

I was out there this morning in it up in 6J. Saw a few tracks on my way in, but saw nothing while I sat.. I had to leave to go to work.. Sigh.. I hope it is all still here tomorrow!
-
Nothing today, but I had to leave early due to work.. It is snowing right now, supposed to get 8" tomorrow.. Could change the equation a bit..

The road into my lot goes about 1/2 mile in (private road). About 3 times now when driving out, right near the end where it dumps out on to the public highway, I have had deer run in front of the truck at the same spot, in fact it happened yesterday.. I saw my great uncle walking the road last week and we stopped and talked and he said "Deer are always walking through here".. This part of the road is actually state land as the road is public then turns private after a 1/8th of a mile. I don't know why it never clicked, but today I am going to hunt that little section. Here's to luck!

I have seen 1 deer on my property all season.. It was a 4 pointer, but it was still just one after weeks of hunting.. Just getting that guy will be a trophy this year for mr lol..
-
I can believe that! Everyone I have talked to who has hunted that area tells me it always gets active in the second half of the season.. Part of me was skeptical because I thought they just hoped I would stay away while they hunted my land lol.. But sure enough, that seems to be the case..

Today one stepped out in front of me about 20 feet away, I could hit it with a left handed snowball, I had no clear shot at it because a fallen tree was in between us.. I have been telling myself all day that rather than not sitting in the position I should have been (5 feet to the right), I actually just let the buck go because he was too small.. It made me feel better.. Thanks Dave for bringing me back to reality.. LOL!

Today I was walking in and got to where there is an old dirt road (private), I clicked off the flashlight and started walking down it when a yote began howling behind me.. Nobody around for miles.. A rather lonely feeling I must say.. I clicked the flashlight back on and went to my spot.. BTW, a small buck walked right out next to me about 1.5 hours later..
-
I sat in my spot for a couple hours and out he came.. A small 4 pointer.. He walked out about 20 feet from me (I was on the ground). There was a fallen tree between us, no chance for a good shot. I just sat there still as stone waiting for him to walk out another 2-3 feet.. I think buck fever got the best of me and he heard me breathing.. He slowly turned around and walked the other way and melted into the woods.. I waited another hour and didn't see anything else.. Hey, this is an improvement though! lol..
