Scouted my farm Friday morning.... It was a "Good" Friday for sure!!

nice!! -
you certainly need an updated bow for sure. i have 5 pins on my mission venture 20-60yrds n shoot 70 and 80 from 60 yard pin barely even a couple feet above where i would shoot my 60 and my bow is only set at 57lbs. youd be surprised but in reality its not that difficult and i dont think it would take 30 shots to get it down to where you could do it a few times or come very close to target everytime at least. id like to give it a try, hardest part is shooting a few and finding your height and a particular spot to shoot at, little adjustments from there and your good. nowhere to shot at 200 myself tho but i might have to find somewhere that i can to give this a try. saw a guy on youtube shoot an 80 yard shot while looking backwards in a mirror, to me that would be way harder to do but maybe im wrong

very nice pix, super clear, curious what cam it is also. my moultrie m-80 takes very clear crisp pictures.

i just put a primos extra full choke on my 870 20g and sighted her in this weekend with the new red dot scope i got. all i had was winchesters which do not seem to be giving me great patterns, gonna try some remingtons and a few others this weekend i think.

dont get them all fired up too early, theyll be all done breeding before season even opens this year. still hopin for the best.

Time to shop, I Got my Pistol Permit
stubbz replied to HectorBuckBuster's topic in General Chit Chat
nice, i had mine sent out the first of march, hopin to get that back sometime mid summer. im buying a Ruger SR22 cuz there super cheap to shoot all day if i want to. eventually i'll buy an SR9 but the expense of ammo is causing me to put it on the backburner for now. -
that may be true, i'm sure my time will come, especially when i get my ol lady out this spring to get one for her first time i may be pluckina number of um out haha

my hunting hobby hasn't been that long but ive taken a turkey myself and seen a number of them taken and cleaned without removing pellets from any of them. pellets will not generally pierce the wings and body to make it into the meat to begin with, if you do youd have to be close to get threw which would mean thats also not a great shot, should be aiming for the head and neck area as thats where the vitals are, pellets would be lucky to pierce into the heart thats just below the neck area thats more of a bow shooting shot.

guess i spoke to soon. the other night me and my cousin were doing some shooting in the yard, it was getting fairly dark hard to see where the arrows were hitting at all, my cousin shot 3 arrows i shot one and it sounded like i hit the ground, shot another and with my lighted nock turned on and it was good in the target area, we thought hmm thats wierd better go find it before its to dark, get up to the target and my arrown was blasted right threw one of his arrows lol, he wasn't to happy. my arrow was fine but i dont know if i dare shoot it again, i checked it for cracks and such and it looks good just kinda sketches me out to try.

haha that is priceless, i just hope to god that that does not happen to me. i think she'll really enjoy it once she does it a few times, especially if she can get a bird. she loves the outdoors but she hates the cold so she wont hunt in the fall unless its really early bow season
-
no problem man, i was hopin you didnt take that the wrong way. its always a concern to make sure your doing your best to put the bird down with as little suffering as possible being most ethical. im a smaller guy and bought my 20 gauge more for me and my fiance to shoot clays with then all the hunting stuff came after that or i probly would have gone with a 12 to begin with but she's 5'1" and cant carry around a 12 gauge let alone swing one with a 26" barrel for shootin clays it just wouldnt be comfortable for her to do. eventually this 870 20 will be her turkey and clay gun and i'll be picking up an 870 SPS in 12 Gauge, love the looks of the sure shot stocks. the 12s just feel big to me but im sure ill get used to it. im sure with a tight choke setup to shoot hevi shot loads would take a bird with the 20 fairly easy and even out quite a distance, but its not a matter to me of whats possible i just wanna keep the pattern as tight as possible. it's her first time ever hunting and shes not a perfect shot right now so i'll be pushing hard to get the birds within 20 yards or so before i tell her to shoot. i think im just going to try to grab an extra full remington choke for it and stay shooting lead shot knowing were not gonna be trying to shoot out beyond 30 yards. the full does ok but i think the extra full would be just enough. i got mine in fall with just a bead on the end of the barell but this year we have a red dot scope so that should help her a bit also. im workin hard to get her into hunting with me and she's coming around lol so the better i can make it for her the more likely she'll get into the rest of the hunting i do also haha

sorry i would have to say i strongly dissagree there, in all reality i wont shot at a bird at anything over 30 yards thats never the plan anyhow, 15-30 is perfect for us. but a 20 gauge with #4, #5, or #6s will drop a bird right where its standing at 30-35 easy. unless its a horrible shot or your setup with a pattern that is not tight enough at those distances then yeah they may be tough to go down, thats why i aim for a good tight pattern at 35-40 then at 20-30 i know im droppin that bird. i work with a lot of guys that have been hunting for 20,30,40 years many of them prefer the 20 gauge for turkey, gotta know and respect your limits thats all. i've read a few times that 12 gauges make better pattern with 2 3/4 shells versus 3 but the 20 gauge makes much better pattern with a 3 and deff adds to the knock down power of it.
-
at 20-25 yards with a full choke and 3 inch remington turkey loads my pattern spreads out fast, fast enough that its hard to tell if your shooting high or low or left or right. i dont go out and shoot loads for fun so im not worried about shootin expensive hevi shots, site in and im good unless im shootin at a turkey i dont waste um so the money isn't a big deal really.
-
next year i'll probly have a 12gauge for myself and this 20 gauge will end up my fiances turkey gun only so i dont put too much into it thats all. undertaker can shoot hevi shot also so maybe ill try one of those or maybe just try an extra full or super full remington standard choke. standard chokes cant shoot hevi shot tho i believe
-
well you guys are looking to close at the 60 yards thing. im not shooting anything at 60 yards and never would without a slug or a rifle. thats what they say about the undertaker when using hevi shot loads that they can be good out to 60. 40 is my max id ever try to take a turkey and thatd be only if they were giving me hell and the season was coming to a close or something. i'll be bow hunting them in May so i'll need them within 20 or so. The jellyhead looked nice but is a bit expensive at 50 a pop. if something else works just as good for less than half the money id never go that far to buying the $50 one. i've tried sighting in my 20 gauge with the full choke and 3 inch remington turky loads and even at 20 yards im not getting the groups id like to see. maybe i should just try some hevi shots threw the full choke or just grab a remington extra full for it and see what happens
-
really nice finds ya got there. im heading out tomorrow and sunday to do some searching, never looked for um before so id be very happy to find something
-
Have an 870 20 gauge my fiance will b using for turkey in May, last year in fall i took a hen with it with a full choke in it but i would like something a bit tighter for farther shots just incase i decide to use it instead of my bow throughout May. What chokes do you guys use and why. im looking at the undertaker extra full as ive read it can stretch a good shot out to 60 yards, im not going that deep for um i know that but what have you had good luck with?
-
i just ordered a set of the peep n tom and pretty penny decoys for early May field hunting, i got the remanufactured ones direct from the manufacturer they were 40 for the set so really not that bad, i have one blow up style of feeding hen also. cant wait to get out there and put them to work and see what we can reel in, my fiance will be huntin with my 870 20 gauge and ill have the bow so i need um to come in pretty close for the bow.
-
have had some very close ones but have not had a robin hood yet, many side by sides touching and so on. i only shoot 2-3 arrows in one spot. maybe im trying for a robin hood idk, once i get one ill deff move to different spots each time which i do sometimes anyways just to change up practice. nice shot for a tourny!! gongrats

thats awesome right there, i cannot wait for my son to be old enough to be able to do these types of things. i'm still in my first year of hunting myself and have fallen in love with it and i now love anything to do with all types of hunting. kinda wierd it never kicked in for me before i was 30. guess i just never felt like doing the whole cleaning of the deer part of it but hey the fun of it all is deff worth the 5 minutes it takes to clean um and get that over with. turkey is really what got me going, id hunt turkey year round if ya could. i'm heading out this weekend to move my new trail cam i just got for my bday from the wife so im gonna take an adventure and scope for some sheds also. probly to late in the year to find good ones but hey if it gets me out of the house and into the field im ok with not finding them
-
are both of these still available i may be very interested in them myself

if you think facebook is the cause for your relationship problems then your in a relay that you shouldn't be in to begin with. if you have to worry about your significant other meeting guys or gals and cheating then again your with the wrong person. i've never had to worry about it for a single day ive been with my fiance, trust goes a long way when its real.

Mathews Mission Venture vs. BowTech's Assassin R.A.K.
stubbz replied to crappyice's topic in Bow Hunting
you will not be at all dissapointed in the venture i love mine and, i shot everything from high end Mathews, Hoyt's, Bears, Bowtechs and a PSE. the venture is for sure quieter than the assasin well i know at least mine is over my cousins without a doubt. -
great opinion from both of you. in spring i just wont shoot any bird bearded or not without seeing them puff up first
