  1. its almost time to start chasing them around the woods with a shotgun and pointer.
  2. Its the same thing for me in 6A and 6G. I put out a new trail camera in Sept and to date have recorded 5 different bucks on my 150 acres. Needless to say I was excited to hit the woods this bow season with all the bucks running around (prior to this year I would get 1 maybe 2 bucks on camera). October was filled with action, deer every day and more scrapes than I had ever seen on my property. I managed a buck on opening morning of archery and filled a DMP on the opening weekend of gun but managed to go the entire month of November without seeing a single deer. What gives? I'm thinking I may have overhunted during archery and forced the deer out of my spot but I am always very cautious of scent and noise. After talking to a number of other hunters in the area they are all saying the same thing. Now just about every pic on my camera is in the middle of the night. Frustrating to say the least. Could it actually be the warm weather that screwed things up?
  3. Just for that i will vote from my wifes account too.
  4. ugh...how frustrating for you. Sometimes those big box stores are more of a pain than anything.
  5. opened sight 30-30.....way to go! Thats awesome! My grandpa killed many deer and even a bear the same way when he was alive. I always try to take my Winchester Model 94 with open sights out for one hunt a year just to honor him.
  6. i would have taken him too. The owners of my neighboring property shoot anything that moves too so I have learned to take anything that looks descent. Its sad but its better than not getting anything at all.
  7. He shoulda cleared it with you before getting trigger happy since the tag wasnt his.
  8. thanks for all the info guys. I would have been pretty disappointed if I would have paid for a boat ride and camping trip but without your advice I could have seen myself hiring one of these local "outfitters". Maybe Maine is the right location for me....
  9. what an awesome deer! maybe someday I will get that lucky.....probably not though
  10. After being a die hard deer hunter since the age of 16, I have recently decided to pursue a Black Bear in the great old state of NY. I realize that trying to get one this year is probably out of the question but I would be interested in any recomendations for a licensed guide in NY that would be able to help me out with my quest for a Black Bear. I have my own hunting property in 6g and another piece in 6A but unfortunatley that isnt Bear country. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  11. 6G for this new member. I have property in Lafargeville and just the other side of Alexandria Bay (6A). We saw alot of buck activity during the Archery season but not much during daylight hours in the last 3 weeks. Anyone else hunt around Lafargeville?
  12. Be careful on Drum though, there are only certain areas open each day and it takes alot of man hours to know the areas up there. On the plus side though it is close to where you live and the quality of animals is exceptional. Plenty of Bear and Deer up there for the taking. Oh and remember a compass or GPS, its easy to get lost in there.
